I just checked Wikipedia for what that's worth. It said the song was written in 1946 by Benny Bell and performed by some guy by the name of Paul Wynn (I think that was the last name) and that it was redone by Dr. Demento in 1975.
I heard this song for the first time nearly thirty years ago listening to the Dr. Demento show. I believe this particular recording (most likely the original) was performed by some guy in the mid-to-late 1940s.
