Well after 50 years your eye can still amaze me. Your layout is shown to its utmost here. Just brilliant, almost as good as being there but without taking my life in my hands to climb the ladder and negotiate under the baseboards. Pete
Lovely video! Great to see the layout again! There is quite a skill in doing weathering! Too much and things look worse than before! Too little and you dont notice it.You have got it just right! Well done Bob! Thats a wonderful job changing the green loco to black.
@ADMIRALSCORNER Thanks Mike, I am fortunate in having studied Art and is one of the few talents I posses....not perfect, but gives a reasonably realisic finish....Bob
Nice weathering! I used to routinely repaint and possibly weather stuff in the 80s and early 90s, but most recent models are so nicely done, I can't bring myself to do it now!
@TimHall42 It was a bit difficult doing it to a brand new loco Tim, but most of my stock is second hand and not such an issue......Thanks again....Bob
@HillsideModelRailway Thanks very much Sam, for greater flexibility, only one side of the wagons are done to if one or two are turned the other way, it breaks up the variation....Bob
Excellent Bob,still a nice looking layout, are you in touch with Howarth004 on yt,he lives in Bridlington,he has a fantastic layout i think you should pay him a visit, that is you have not seen it before.........John
@johnwood57 Thanks John, I've been in touch with Dave for quite a while...his excellent layout should be open to the public....and he's such a character....Bob
@siobhan104 I'm delighted with it Tim, although doing a complete re-paint on a brand new loco was a little stressful, however I am very pleased with the results. Most of my locos are quite old Tim, and run for hours on end, so a little maintenance hopefully will keep them running for a few more years yet.....Bob
Great stuff Bob, an inspiration for others to have a go at weathering. I must make the effort to get back in my loft and dust the cobwebs off a layout which I've not run for quite some time.
@rab4472 Go on Mike, you know you want to....now the days are cooler the attic's a good place to be.....I get too hot in my attic during the summer months...but beggars can't be choosers and like most people, spare rooms are at a premium.....Bob
@eurodestination I'm afraid patience is not one of my stronger points Gary, but the layout allows me to utilise my artistic side, when the mood takes me......Bob
Superb video Bob. A wonderful layout and very well filmed. I am hoping to start a layout of my own one day so your fine work is very inspiring. Regards, Jeff.
@dbdrdbag There has been a great deal of track re-laying recently, and the new track will be weathered when it's all settled in...Thanks very much.....Bob
Very enjoyable Bob, I think you have done a superb job of the weathering. There must be a few anxious moments when you start to apply the paint. I remember an article on weathering by Terence Cuneo in Triangs book 'The First Ten Years'
@acw71000 Thanks Austin, I don't have many skills, but I did study Art many years ago, and when doing the weathering, I find it quite easy...and of course doing it yourself can save a fortune. Out of the box clean just doesn't do it for me, and as I run things until they run no more, it keeps me happy....Bob
@Bevoin1970 It's done with a few small tins of modelling paints, some thinners a paper tissue and a very small good quality brush.....simplzzzzzz!......Thanks Paul for your lovely comments, they are very welcome....Bob
Is there no end to your talents ? I've just sold our 16' x 6' baseboard as it was overtaking our double garage. So we're moving into the summerhouse which is brick built with power etc. Is yours pc controlled with chipped locos.
Let me know when you have an open day ! Very good again Bob
@TheMichaelWilcock Oh very posh Mike, I did try DCC but it was so problematic I gave it up....I run some locos that are 40 years old and chipping them isn't an option.....like me the layout is cheap and cheerful....Bob
Fantastic layout Bob. Like I have mentioned before, I have a huge amount of locos and stock circa 1980's / 1990's and have a room I could use to make out a nice layout on raised wood sections but my house is rented and don't really want to start a project unless I know I'll be here for many more yrs.
Nice job on the 2- 8- 0 Bob , one road I have not gone down yet weathering, it looks good , but I also like prestine, think I shall have to have a go. Glad to see that you are still making alterations and additions, good hobby for this time of year ..keeps us indoors but still with the Loco`s
@howarth004 Thanks Dave, coming from the Master, your comments are greatly appreciated. I studied art many years ago, and really enjoy doing the weathering.....maybe not as smooth as airbrushing, but a fraction of the price, and quite realistic I thought....the loco was covered in Matt Black then Humbrol 29 with almost a dry brush to add the lighter shades.....Bob
Superb layout Bob, Loved watching your Flying Scotsman on the Pullman train and you seem to have a lot of stock including my favourite diesel the class 35 Hymek.
@AN21files At the moment only one side of the wagons are done, which means that you can turn a few around and have clean wagons......Thanks for watching....Bob
@penninefilms I tend to stick to the 50's and sixties Bradley, which is the period I remember in my youth....it's difficult to mix old and new, although the layout could incorporate newer types if I so wished....The cost of newer models is normally beyond me these days....Bob
@robmasterman I agree with you about the cost of new models some of them are well over £150 theses day it may not seem like a lot but it adds up if you buy three or four models of that price.
superb layout bob never seen it before, really like the countryside effect you have there, very good weathering on your locos, thanks for uploading, can you do some more,
@MegaCullie Thanks kev, we don't grow up, we just get older, the tanks you spotter are the 45ton Regent fuel tanks from the 60's.....The Class 60 is too modern for my layout.....Bob
