Russia 2008 is a perfect example of the rigged/block/political voting that can occur in the Eurovision. The best quote from the 2008 Eurovision was from Terry Wogan and he said: "That'll keep the oil flowing". Summed the whole experience up rather well.
It's not a totally corrupt competition as Lordi from Finland two years earlier (06) is a great example of non block/political/biased voting but the 2008 eurovision opened everyones eyes.

I know block voting gets on peoples nerves (mine included at times), but recently there were many conflicts and civil wars in eastern Europe (almost on the scale of genocide, but that's an arguement for another day). So if these countries can find some happyness and build bridges by voting for each other in a song contest, maybe we shouldn't complain too much......maybe some good comes from it?
What can you do lol? Everyone loves Russia. But yes the system of voting in the euro vision suxs. Cause lets say if in Luxembourg 10000 people vote (And they are the majority) for one country the country will get max points from it. But lets say if in Germany 1.000.000 votes for it and its not the majority the country gets that less points no matter the difference in votes. The votes given to a country should be counted per the total votes not per the majorities.
Germany, Britain, France and Spain pay for the event to be held. The vast majority of the money comes from them and hence the least they deserve is to automatically qualify.
Though there may not be any more competition in the future due the ridcolous block voting fiasco.

Eurovision is just an east bloc countrie party and of course the baltic countries vote for russia they have a high percentage of russians (about 25%) and so does the Ukraine and azerbeidjan and armenia are still ruled by russia today...

In Eurovision 2009, a new jury/televoting system will be introduced. An impartial jury from each country will select their top 10, and that will be combined with the top 10 in the televoting to create the Eurovision scores for each country.
I think it is fair. I can't help if eastern countries have better songs and they were brothers one day. and afterall western countries rarerly vote for eastern countries and nobody argue.

That is ridiculous! Of course this isn't fair! Turkey is getting 12 points every year from Germany. The joke is that no German like turkish music. This points are coming from the Turks in Germany. The same with Russia. Million Russians live in former Soviet states and vote for Russia ... Croats and Serbs in Bosnia, Slovenia, etc... Funny is, that western music is more successful worldwide and this russian music sounds like German pop from the 80's ... ;-)

In Deutschland leben ca. 2,5 Mio. Türken,
aber ca. 75 Mio. Deutsche.
Wie kommt es, dass 75 Mio. Deutsche es nicht schaffen, ihre Stimmen so zu verteilen,
dass es die Türkei nicht auf 12 Punkte bringt?
2.Wie kommst du darauf, dass Deutsche keine türkische Musik mögen?

Wie ich darauf komme? Ganz einfach: Ich bin Deutscher, genauso wie meine Familie und die meißten meiner Freunde. Und keiner von denen hört Türkenmusik. Dieses Tarkan-Lied vor ein paar Jahren war ja ganz lustig, aber dann reicht es auch schon. Also ich weiß schon, von was ich rede.
Was die Stimmenverteilung betrifft ist es doch so, daß kaum "normale" Deutsche den Eurovision schauen, außer ältere Menschen, die eh nicht "voten" und Tunten, die besoffen zuschauen...

Ich kenn euch leider zu gut, das ist wahrscheinlich etwas, was mich im spaeteren Leben bremsen wird. Ich glaub du hast die deutsche Chartliste mit der von Europa vertauscht.

Die Deutschen stimmen nicht für das Land, für welches sie am meisten Sympathie haben, sondern sie stimmen für den besten Beitrag.
Wenn du schon ein paar zehntausend/hunderttausend Stimmen Vorsprung hast, kannst du nicht mehr eingeholt werden.

I know block voting gets on peoples nerves (mine included at times), but recently there were many conflicts and civil wars in eastern Europe (almost on the scale of genocide, but that's an arguement for another day). So if these countries can find some happyness and build bridges by voting for each other in a song contest, maybe we shouldn't complain too much......maybe some good comes from it?

What can you do lol? Everyone loves Russia. But yes the system of voting in the euro vision suxs. Cause lets say if in Luxembourg 10000 people vote (And they are the majority) for one country the country will get max points from it. But lets say if in Germany 1.000.000 votes for it and its not the majority the country gets that less points no matter the difference in votes. The votes given to a country should be counted per the total votes not per the majorities.

Germany, Britain, France and Spain pay for the event to be held. The vast majority of the money comes from them and hence the least they deserve is to automatically qualify.

Eurovision is just an east bloc countrie party and of course the baltic countries vote for russia they have a high percentage of russians (about 25%) and so does the Ukraine and azerbeidjan and armenia are still ruled by russia today...

What have you been smoking? The Baltic countries gave 12 points to Russia solely because there is a huge number of Russian immigrants here. Just like the Turkish diaspora in Germany always votes for Turkey, the Russians here vote for Russia. This has nothing to do with bloc-voting or neighbour-voting. We hate Russia and we aren't ruled by them.
Russia had a terrible song, by the way.

UPDATE:
In Eurovision 2009, a new jury/televoting system will be introduced. An impartial jury from each country will select their top 10, and that will be combined with the top 10 in the televoting to create the Eurovision scores for each country.

Whatever is done to "fix" the contest (again) or politically influence tele-voters, please don't rob Portugal of our "almost always there, always below 5th, mostly at the bottom" distinction. We ever ask (silently), are we a song all-averse country, or is the common euro-taste (ours as well) more obtuse than it is reasonable ?? In either case, there is nothing to fix. They'll fix the ESC like they did the Nobel lit prize for the Portuguese language (vomit). Lion eats lion share, OK ??
