Before stabbing its leg with an icepick, I would have taken a hammer and some nails and driven a nail or 2 through the stump and nailed the cat's bad leg to the table. I would have then smacked the cat in the face with the hammer and broken its jaw with a pair of pliers for all that screaming. That cat got exactly what it deserved no matter what anybody says. I have no sympathy for it whatsoever.

I would have killed that cat for carrying on like that at the vet. I would have stabbed its leg with an icepick, torn the leg off, stuffed the leg up its butt, and then stabbed the cat itself with the icepick. That stupid coward of a cat would really have something to cry about then. Little creature my ass!

There is no question that Thomas will have him neutered, of course. The vet will most likely do that while the cat is under anaesthetic for the amputation.
Thomas, may I suggest a name of Cairo for him, as Abyssinian cats are said to originate from Egypt.
As I've said before, cats are smart...no matter what abuse they've suffered, no matter how feral they may be, they're intelligent enough to know when someone wants to help them....this beautiful guy is a good example. Dude, I wish to God there were more people in the world with your passion & love of animals. He looks so beautiful. I love the color of his fur. I am glad he will be ok and since the leg can be amputated and he can still walk. It looks like a de-gloving injury. Thanks for taking care of him. I hope he finds a great home.

Having 3 legs will be to his disadvantage, and he won't be able to be as aggressive as toms need to be, when defending their territory and fighting over a female cat.

Just having had a cat that jumped off a balcony and broke both her front legs - they wouldn't touch her legs or bandage them without some sort of freezing, or serious dope-age... this cat is crying in far too much pain for anything to have been done as far as this goes.
I know this is an older video but I have just seen it - I know this guy does great work for the animals but I agree they should have given it pain meds before doing anything like that - the cat was definitley in PAIN - not good.....

i saw the vet say it had to be amputated all the way to his body. now i have a question about this. why could it not just be cut off a small amount and a something like a soft leather boot with a tough sole but put on it to protect it from rubbing on the ground
Cats do very badly when it comes to anything attached to their legs or paws. They tend to scratch and bite at it until they pull whatever it is off. Also, if the vet just amputated a small amount, the stump would always be tender and he wouldn't use it. Three-legged cats do wonderfully - running, jumping and playing.
Not so long back we recued a 3 legged tomcat that surprised us all with its agility and sheer speed of movement. Cats dont have the self pitying element of us humans, they just get on with playing the cards they are dealt.

It serves no purpose, so there is no real reason to risk injuring him further. The best thing is to remove the limb as far as the vet indicated. There really isn't much research into prosthetics for cats, so that really isn't an option.

The cat has had a traumatic amputation. Even with pain meds, the cat would scream. I'm betting you would too if you were in the same situation.
