Loved and went to see the darkness before they got big, love the songs as much as when i first heard them anyone who doesn't like this music only do because they are in denial and think they should hate it lol
I was at Reading '04 and it was a great performance, and every 4 letter swear word that was shown on the lights at the back of the stage between songs was so funny!
they broke up becaue this dude was a heroin junkie, they went on with the bassist singing as "the stone gods" they aren't as good, especially not the singing.
Ahhh I was there...right near the front too (when this was ITV I spotted myself, impossible on yt though lol). Great 2 hour set, the pyro was way over the top, which was amazing! Nearly passed out thanks to still being at the front from Offspring beforehand...the music got me through!
This band got me into rock music when i was about 11. I guess that was sorta what they set out to do - modernize classic rock. They opened my mind to bands that nobody else my age had even heard of like Led Zeppelin, ACDC and Guns n Roses. From then on, i think i really grew in maturity and open mindedness.
i like alotta their songs and its too bad they broke up, but i think the fact they most def coulda been a 'big' band, makes it even more rock n roll that drugs ruined them, lol, you know? we can enjoy the good times and always say 'What If' while doing so. they rock forever in my opinion.
yh the drugs lol live when i see him is was sniffing coke backstage i was lucky to get back there and in the song one way ticket 2 hell is about coke lol sniffing at the start
I'm hoping the rumours of them rejoining are true, The Darkness are awesome! It was said the drummer (Ed?) has helped seal the rift between the Hawkins brothers so they may be back in all their spandex glory!
I think Fame and Fortune are more likely the killers of this band. Not that I ever saw them (was overseas when they were on the rise and giging) but they were by all accounts the biggest band never to have made it big before the Permission album launched. Permission basically put all of the early live gig works out in one go. Supper polished, tongue in cheek mega rock songs (with rocks on the rocks). Loved them to bits... wish they were still here but pleased they didn't keep heading downhill.
@badwaiser word. They sure could be that big with ease. I mean like all the songs they made hited the top lists. They were also planing on a third album. Fucking drugs indead... Its really sad that they broke up and now play in other bands. as Beatles would say, Come Together! We need you Darkness! :(
Don't listen to this twat! Alll the ex-darkness members (Stone Gods/Hotleg) have said they can't se a reunion! It doesnt mean its not a possibility but theres very little chance! Both bands are happier doing what they do!
@motocarnage615 sir it's official, they will be probably back at 70% cuz justin's new band hot leg isn't working so they are thinking to make the reunion... Except for the drummer, i've heard that he's sick and cant' not play anymore the drums...
No justin (lead singer) left and the rest formed stone gods. Justin went to a band called hotleg. The rest of the darkness formed stone gods. Recently ed grahm left stone gods for personal problems.
Yeah but ya know, Dan is still essentailly a lead Guitarist, its not like he plays rhythm in the stone gods is it?! But yeah I know Justin did play alot of solo's in The Darkness.
I think the Darkness would have made a great job covering a lot of songs.
There's a Darkness cover of Radiohead's Street Spirit floating around on youtube, but all the elitist radiohead fans are whining about the Darkness "ruining it" - which is sheer absurdity, because the Darkness' version fucking rocks haha. Go czech it out :)
the way i see it (reformation wise) not gonna happen.... if you have seen hot leg and the stone gods they are different.. why does either dan or justin need to compromise what music they play? although saying that if they did reform it would have to be with frankie.. richie is a good front man in his own right.but frankie just fitted in the band nicely..its like acdc cliff is much more effective than if he had the stage presence... too many front men ruin a band.. if any of that made any sense!
your logic is all opinionated no way to prove what you just said :'( sorry . think what you want shut up. nothing personal :) no one cares but you. there something special there.
Whatever happende to the Darkness. First i heard they got rid of the drumer and then Justin(?) left... They were like the last good rock n roll band since ACDC
Frankie (the bassist) left during the recording of the second album. About a year after the albums release, Justin went into rehab and decided that continuing with the darkness would be detrimental to his recovery. The rest of the Darkness (Dan the guitarist, Ed the drummer and Richie the new bassist formed a new band 'the Stone Gods', Ed has since left the Stone Gods, and Justin has a new band 'Hot Leg' whose album came out last month {search on youtube, theres loads of their material}].
Maaaan, I'm trying to learn this on the guitar, but I just can't get the fast bit on the second solo. I just can't get it to sound right. Anyone know what gear Justin uses?
gibson les paul custom. through a mesa boogie duel rectifier. higher gain than dan and a more 'american' sound. try anything with a humbucker in it an a moderate high gain amp setting. good luck aswell ;)
wow.. I really miss the darkness.. never got to see them live.. but the ghost lives on in my mind. they really knew how to rock, and always wished they would have toured the USA more. But like all amazing things in life.. they have to come to an end.. Great concert footage. and nice to hear Justin hitting all the highs..
im still mourning them, the only good proper rock and roll band to emerge in the last 10 years, but i suppose like all great rock bands...... they break up
