Ha, I thought those blocks were the remains of an old road way. Yikes, the labour that went into every K. The roads are one of the most important achievements of the Romans, in my mind. Obviously others thought so too.
It sounds like Florida, you do not want to leave the coast of Florida to go inland in the heat of summer.
Thanks for a great video and I am impressed did you say 46 and you are not screaming “how could I be so stupid to go here now” I would lol ;-P But you made me thinking of going to Bulgaria a third time have to see more. Regards and have a skilful time. Pinge
The Saint is thought to be St Envrota, the first Bulgarian Saint. You can find him on Wikipedia. I had again to much to say in this short Video, but he was important to mention. For the road it's after the Roman/Byzantine period so probably the knowledge of the Romans was still fresh for this 4 km ceremonial road. And....Magnum feci Latin!
The road to basilica looks like a Roman road, it's very straight and the curb stones are exactly like those I've seen on Roman roads. If it is built over such a road there may also be milestones ('mile' is from the Latin 'mille' = 1000, in this case 1,000 paces). Do you happen to know the name of the martyr or saint that basilica was built for? I assume that was his icon in the niche.
The whole building reminds me of Shelley's poem "Ozymandias". It was meant to be eternal and look at it now.
Where did you go in Romania or did you get to go?

Here in Ottawa, there was NO rain for 7 weeks. Super hot (30+ C), the grass is brown. As long as you drink a lot of water you'll be ok.
