A narcissist I knew took divide and conquer to an artform. Was afraid that the people they were manipulating would compare notes and find all the inconsistencies. Very clever juggling all these people so the divide-an-conquer was very important. Casting dispersions on other people incites self-deceiving self righteous/hypocritical behaviour. I discovered this person's narcissism partly when I found I wasn't liking 'myself' - my behaviour was being carefully modified by the N. V/interesting.
I'm so sorry about your family, these videos are very helpful and clear :). You know this exact thing happened to me.... narcs are so creepy... its like you know what they are doing but its just so amoral and lame, you don't want to believe it.. other people don't want to believe it (and that is the tragedy)...
Am I right in saying their "fantasy image" is always so opposed to how they really are...
Look up the term "grandiosity gap" and how they maintain the delusion of their false self. My N is so convincing, I seriously think he borders on psychotic.
@organysntracey1 I will def look up that term. It sounds like something I experienced. I feel I was unwillingly sucked into someone else's delusion. Hopefully that makes sense when I look it up! I'll also look up Arts. I've mostly been listening to Vaknin and PsychDoctorate.. both are invaluable to me thx! It's nice to of met a person who has met a similiar person... Average people don't seem to understand how these people really do work.. its exhausting at times for me...
@TheSchwarz1000 Also look into Objects Relations theory, a most fascinating subject; however, because I'm not big into the whole psychoanalysis, it enlightening most of the time. p.s. there is not such thing as "average" there's only denial, cognitive dissonance, and delusion!
It is NOT a non-conscience habit. My sadistic narc DOES IT ON PURPOSE - TO ISOLATE.... and for sh*ts and giggles! Perhaps SOME narcs are unaware, but the ones I know of are doing it ON PURPOSE!
@organysntracey1 Yeah, maybe some are unaware, conscious or semi conscious... I had a narc tell me "I know what I do gets to you". The narc also took on some of my mannerisms... and told everyone I was jealous of them... haha. I should have known then... they were a fuckin basket case.
Maybe the people we are dealing with are more psycopathic/ sadistic than a typical narc? hahaha... Isn't it fun to be able to use sadistic when it so inexorably applies!! These people suck so bad...
@TheSchwarz1000 Unaware, conscience, or semi, I've learned it doesn't matter - the end result is always the same; you get used and/or abused.
ThomasSheridanArts (artist and author on youtube) who describes these people the same way I think about them - a narc is a psychopath and vice versa. It doesn't matter because the damage is usually the same. I know clinically they are not, and are much more varied and complex - but in the end, does it really matter what you call them?
@organysntracey1 you're right, it doesn't matter. I want SO badly to understand. But you're right. I don't need to. It's essential, in such glaring contrast to these people, to focus on understanding more about what is good in the world- aligning yourself with healthy people. How to protect and regain yourself/ your authenticity/ happiness the only goal!! It's hard to pull back... but if it acts like anything anti social.. its some brand of anti social. Which always will = bad.
@batboyjhg Could be the case... my family, if you could call them that, had become completely pathologized. I hated that I always felt like the "outsider/scapegoat" as a kid, but you know what? It's because, on a very basic level, I knew something was wrong - they were wrong, and that separateness, if you will, allowed me to look at them from the outside, versus accepting and taking on their sickness.
Tks Doc I wish i had this informacion at least 5 years ago.
