@mingweicello the name of the Cellist is Wolfgang Herzer, he is a student of Richard Krotschak in Vienna and Pablo Casals in Paris. He was principal Cellist in Vienna from 1973 to 2006 and teacher in the Viennese University from 1970-2011. Thumbs up so people can see.
@WolfkinNorthclaw This from Bugs Bunny..."Poet and Peasant" from Animaniacs (the "Potty Emergency" episode)...The use of all three parts to the William Tell overture in various other Warner Bros. cartoons...
I miss the days of music like this in cartoons like that :)
This is the music that was used in a Daffy Duck cartoon when he's trying to escape a little man chasing him with his draft notice. The finale is when he jumps on a rocket to escape that goes to hell and the little man is still chasing him.
I have to play this piece in a orchestra! I play violin! It is extremely hard! I'm only in middle school and my afterschool orchestra expects us to play it perfectly!
OOOH i love this movement so much! love the way it played fast at the end such passion, such rhythm lol words cannot describe my absolute respects for this <3
@sonokosuzuki I'm pretty sure Disney used it also for their "Concert on the Green" cartoon. Starred Mickey and Donald and the rest. Haven't seen it in years, but it's the one where the wind blows the entire orchestra up into a large tree. Fell in love with this piece then (as a child). Long time ago...
Funny that so many people know this music through a cartoon... Show's the power of that combination! I know it through an old Decca LXT LP with Georg Solti conducting it.
In fact the first time I heard Franz von Suppe was in the 80´s whit Bugs Bunny, and that was my inspiration to become Orchestal Director. One of the greatest Overtures all time!
The first time I heard him was the Mickey Mouse cartoon "Symphony Hour" where he conducts Goofy, Donald, et al in the "Light Cavalry" Overture. LOL. Awesome.
With all due respect, just listen to what Maestri Barbirolli, Karajan, Paray, Solti, Henry Krips, and Beecham bring to this marvelous music; you will instantly hear what is missing here. I wish someone would upload any of those recordings to YouTube!.
Who here also thinks the same as me... The bass part of most orchestra's (not all) is the thing that makes you feel that bubbly feeling, and also 'makes' the music. Basically you like the bass. One of my favourite pieces this.

The principal cellist of Vienna Philharmonic played the cello solo part of "Morning, Noon & Night Overture" by Franz von Suppe was Franz Bartolomey.

why must the teacher's butcher great pieces by giving it to unready kids

Actually ours is a transposition (no strings in band). It was made for a college he used to conduct at, and he thinks we are ready for it.
