  • I loved this game. Those were the days....

  • with the orange on the sides of the other bikers helmets, i used to think that i was racing clowns w/ orange hair. XD ahh.. to be a dumb kid again.

  • That music is awesome...

  • Just listening to the sounds from this game makes me six years old again.

  • I have this game on my master system, but I always sucked at it. My deceased cousin used to be an excellent player though. Coicindentally, I also got the Mega Drive version of Hang-on one year later and guess what I was also crap at it!

  • o grafico do jogo é perfeito heem!

  • I remember try to convince myself how good this was.

  • I got over a million points on this when i was young

  • This is the game before Super Hang-On

  • What buttons do you have to hold to get to play it? I can play the snail maze one, but can't get any of the others. I have the original NTSC model, BTW

  • Hang on came on the smaller card form in the package of Master System.

  • Great game for the Master System. Colourful and nice conversation from the original arcade game. The scrolling is verry nice and fast. Thanks for upload and greetings to you

  • Can't believe I use to call this racing, it just makes me feel abit ill looking at it now.

  • wow! awesome stuff.

I remember when i used to play this when i was young, i thought it was one of those games that could never be completed.

  • @SegaTriForce yea its classic i like the start up sound when u first turn it on and pause button was on the system classic retro years

  • What always got to me was, how many fucking ppl were in this race?

  • i had a sms but it broke :( so i bought a genesis power base converter.

  • 4:45 - THE HAPPIEST Congratulatory music I've EVER heard in a video game! Sounds like a mariachi guitar theme.

  • I hated how there was no music during the gameplay. Unlike Super Hang On with it's superb soundtrack

  • Isn't too fast? My game is slower

  • This was one of the best games for the master system. Fucking nostalgia man...

  • @8824shyte Just make sure that they aren't rated R laddie or those wee ones you want to entice back can't legally play it, or is it not the game you want them to play? dirty paedo commenting scumfuck

  • @8824shyte Pervert alert.

  • @8824shyte Thanks for the info.

  • Thanks for posting this video! Good ole days! I still have my Sega Master System, Hang on/Safari Hunt built in like yours. Plus an additional 10 games. Ahhh, memories!

  • The music in this game is just horrid. OH MY GOD!

  • nice colours

  • Wow. I got this and 'Safari Hunt' with my first master system

  • I wish I could live in a master system game like this!

  • love this machine, first console i owned and it crashed one day while playing hang on, but i got a MS2! :D lol beter than ps3

  • Great game for the Master System......I actually liked this better then Super Hang-On for the Genesis.

  • thanks for sharing this. it's so much fun to see how far gaming, graphics, and sound have progressed. still, those oldschool games will entertain me 4ever :-D

  • my brother used to love this game. i used to like Safari Hunt better. i can't believe i still own this console.

  • I remember how geeked I was the very first time I made it back to the first stage. I was about 8 or 9, and I felt like a million bucks when I finally managed to complete the first course. Man, great games never die.

  • The eternal struggle between Fearless Four and Sizzlin' Seven. Great memories.

  • Will we ever reach those mountains?

  • lol the bike noise is just a variant on the sega start up sound

  • lolol, i remember the title screen used to pop up when i didnt insert my game cartridge properly.

Damn the funny sounds brings back memories!

  • Yeah!! This was the first game i EVER played...damn :)

  • I remember playing the demo at Sears back when Sega was top dog. My SMS came with the cartrige that had Hang-On and Safari Hunt. My laser gun cable lost connection right at the gun, so I had to hold it angled up unti it just stopped working altogether.

  • EPIC!

  • At top speed , this bike is going about 300kmh (186mph) - I had no idea they went so fast !

  • sorry to say, but Super hang on is definantly better than this, not that this is bad, but without some kind of music, even 8-bit, its just to plain.

  • What a sound Mefager...

  • I spent long hours playing this game - it was built into my system. :)

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • reminds me of F-1 race...

  • I like old skool sprite based driving/cycling games. There fun and not as complicated as say forza and all that. Hang on is just pick up and play fun.

  • hhhii ou

    vvvou vvou vvou

    the first game

    oh my god

  • Man i remember wasting the summer playing this game..lol Tnx for the memories!

  • Wow! The music at 0:09 was reused in sonic riders: zero gravity! Great playing by the way, I always sucked at this.

  • This is so GOOD! Soon I will cry...

  • I remember when I played this when I was young. For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why I every other motorcycle was way faster than me, and why if I did everything perfectly, I'd get the same game over screen every time.

Then I noticed there was gear shifting.

  • The sounds of this take me way back.

  • i want to cry, now iam 22yearsold, :((((((((

  • LOL@ the fact that you ride a motorcycle ALLLLLLLLLL day into night LOL

  • Outrun was better!!

  • my first master system game.

  • Well it came free with the console I bought the machine with Outrun Two driving games and the hidden snail maze game

  • @schieese Same here.

  • @schieese

And probably everyone's first considering it came build into the console.

  • @schieese Mine too, but I bought mine at Toy-r-Us and the ones with the gun were sold out, so I had the one with the HANG-ON / ASTROWARRIOR cartridge. MAN!!! MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >.<

  • Oh no. You about to make me pull out the old Master System. Another CLASSIC!!

  • <3333 !!!!!!

  • oh, my childhood.... :D thank you!!!

  • I've forgotten all about this one. I was a Sega fan more than a Nintendo fan, so they hold more memories for me. Used to play this all the time - good old days!

  • This is the only game I've had on my Sega!

  • This is an unlockable gear in Sonic Riders Zero gravity! What a cameo!! :D

  • Awesome!

  • i have this game xD

  • I've almost forgotten how solid the graphics and sound were on that system for its time. Damn it looks good!

  • this game reminds me of Pole Position!

  • I have a power base converter and I play hang-on from time to time... balls hard though.

  • better than a ps3.

  • Comment removed

  • very addictive little racer this....good speed. found it a bit easy though and could go on for hours and hours until i got bored!!!

  • Does anyone remember a snail race game built into the Atari?

I had these games and I loved em so much haha. They were built in? Damn I def. forgot that. i had this when I was about 5 or 6

  • i remember the snail maze.

press the a and b buttons and the same time than right. ;)

  • and = at

  • haha how ironic, a snail race right? Man these games were so realistic to us, we never imagined PS3 and the lot. But give me a master system any day. I want to play the hunting game and shoot those damn fast Jaguars. LOL

  • I only have one game on the Master System cards and that's My Hero.

  • This was so cool. I remember when the sky started turning orange for the later levels. And I'd get pissed when I'd see the checkpoint like ten feet ahead but the time ran out. LOL

  • I think Hang-On and safari hunt were the first built in games on the first Master System. Alex Kid: In Miracle World was later built into some of the first Master Systems too and early Master System 2 consoles. Finally I believe came Sonic The Hedgehog. I don't think Hang On was ever built into the Master System 2.

  • wow memories. I loved this game, especially the sound effects.

  • now the original game came on a card not cartridge and the game was also built into the master system 2.

the presentation here looks different to what i rememer so i'm guessing ms2?

  • This video is actually taken from the built-in version from an original NTSC Mater System.

  • @fizzkid2000 i got one for christmas when i was little....it came with a cartridge but it also played without it.....weird i thought.....also came with a game kinda like duck hunt

  • @ihaveaverybadcold You mean Safari Hunt?

  • @BenJabituya yeah!!!

  • @fizzkid2000 Actually, in the states, the original Hang-On was a double cartridge with Safari Hunt, which was packed in with the SMS.

  • So I thought the game would end at course 8, but I was surprised when it went back to 1 and kept going. I'm going to keep the game paused whenever I feel like taking a break, so I can race as long as possible.

  • wow, do I ever feel old now.

  • the memories

  • thanx for the memories. i think this came with my master system? i can't remember. that was x-mas '87.

  • It most likely did, it came built in with Safari Hunt on some Master Systems. It was also sold by itself (on cartridge and card) with Safari Hunt on cartridge and with Astro Warrior on cartridge. This video is off the built in game in the console.

  • @coenak This game came built in (along with Duck Hunt) in my Master System 1 purchased at the end of '91. when i got my Master System 2 i don't remember any built in games...

  • @coenak dont worry you werent the only one with the sega ms, while all my friends had the nes, my parents bought me the sega master. Obviously ive played hang on and safari hunt, i also had kung fu kid, my hero, the ninja (as you can see i loved martial arts games as a kid), out run, wonder boy and a bunch of others.. I always thought sega had better games and graphics but hey.. its like PC and MAC, quality doesnt always win the popularity game, its all on the marketing.

  • HangOn did come with the Sega. There was a Safari hunter game as well included with it I think. I spent HOURS playing this stuff way back then.

  • by far the best version of hang on i feel, was challenging and fast for sms kept me busy as a young lad, great game.

  • fearless is the best racer

  • God bless you for uploading this!

You made me go back in the good old times...about 20 years ago when I was a kid. Sega master system and Hang-on, just as R-Type and Alex Kidd were my whole life back then. I almost shed a tear, dude.

  • this seriously takes me back to when I was a little kid what a fantastic video and great driving skills this game was awesome (and free) this and spellcaster were two of my most loved games thanks for putting it up

  • oh man i jus relived my childhood... sweet memories!

  • This game DEFINITELY should be released on the Wii Virtual Console.

  • SMS and Genesis version.

  • Nice demonstration of Hang-On for the Sega Master System. I've never played a single SMS game, nor have I seen one in person. I even seen another YouTube video that was an old commercial for this game (only in Japanese). Nice of you to post this video to show what the home version of Hang-On is like in case no one ever gets to play this game. At least they know what it looks like and how it plays. Good job and great riding.

  • Well thank you. I appreciate your comment! Yeah, in the US most people don't even know what the Master System is. I only know one other person that had one and everyone else has no clue. They say, "Sega had a console before the Genesis?"

  • can you upload another master system game like um i don't know....how about action fighter from begining to end i hated hang on.

  • @coenak i know what you mean...after 20 something years i just learned today that there are 2 versions of captain silver (american/european)...US version only has 4 levels. looking for the european version on ebay

  • xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • made the sms verions too easy the arcade is much harder

  • that city level really hits the spot. its like driving out in the ocean during the night sky while the city is nearby. classic.

  • In the arcade version (which you can see in another YouTube video), the sky and ground are black. But it does look like the city is in the distance in the night stage of this video.

  • wow, i gotta check that out.

  • Always loved the graphx of this game, esp. the nighttime cityscape. Great look.

  • Huh ? ..........

  • why was the master system so much better than the nes?! I only remember actually playing one once in my life, and I didn't get a good impression of it because the only games we played were utter crap. But all the vids on Youtube make it look great compared to the NES.

  • It was the graphics and color palette!

  • you are the on -hang master dunn. i could not ever play this game like this back then. it was hard for me in those days. good run.

  • I remember playing this till my eyes were bleeding. I managed to complete all the courses once, but it just went back to course one and was gutted to spend all that time getting so far not to see a final end screen.

  • nah, NES and Master system are both 8-BIT and they have the same capabilities, it's just when some people make games they don't bother spending too long on making the game's graphics look good.

  • aa crash would be nice

  • that great. i 'm french. i hope that you undersdant to me. so... I don't remember the game's name of master systeme. it was a fox with a bird. and this foxcan change in tiger or monckey... do you remember?? what is name???

  • it's called Psycho Fox.

  • it seems that sms had better graphics than the nes. isn't it?

  • NES has 3 colors per sprite, Master System has 15 colors per sprite, the same goes for every 8x8 pixel tile in the background as well..

The only thing better on the NES is the sound.

  • I was given a second hand Master System and I used to play this game a bit, not bad for when it was released. The original Master System had better built in games than the Master System II, which I understand came with Alex Kidd, I'd much rather play Hang On, and Safari Hunt.

  • aah the good ol games.

  • More like Pole Position than Hang On really. I got good at it, because it was all I had for awhile on SMS.

  • these were the good old days, I remember this game was included in the console...

  • I was so young... :) good old days:)

  • Loved Super Hang-On , on the Megadrive.

  • I remember I was so young when i played this game i allways used to run out of time and wonder why. Then i worked out how to use gears. Good times.

  • @DanWelshy86

You didn't have to shift gears in the arcade version as the bike just goes all the way to the max from the get-go.

  • Hah yeah! Just remembed this. Wasn't it a stock game inside the SMS?

lol at it not having any music, shit compared to the Mega Drive(versions), which I always wanted.

  • No, the stock game built inside the SMS console was "Snail Maze."

But HO did come bundled with "Safari Hunt" as a 2-in-1 cartridge (just as later sales of Nintendo's NES system had a 2-in-1 cart "Super Mario Bros." backed with "Duck Hunt" as a pack-in) included with the SMS in its early USA sales run.

  • @ClassicTVFan82 the Snail Maze game was in all SMS consoles with the Version 1.3 BIOS, the only thing you had to do was when the instructions popped up, just push up, 1, and 2 at the same time, and the instructions will move to the left to make way for the Snail Maze game.

  • BLAST FROM THE PAST .

  • This is the game that came built into my Master System

  • oh my god. memories

  • The sound when you pass other bikes is a nice touch, but I don't like the way it make the engine sound cut out.

  • @CollisionCat

    8-bit soundchip limitations.

  • Ah yes, I remember having a little hook on this game...went as far as Course 8 on it too till I ran outta time lol Still an awesome game though =D

  • Course 8 seems to be the only where you can reach 300 km/h

  • I stuck at the game badly when I was a kid but I enjoy Safari hunt more than this but then again I used to get a bit further sometimes if I was lucky

  • oh yeeeaaaah!!!

    i love hang on

  • Had this as a kid, great game.

  • Wow i did play this on the Genesis and i knew Master system had a release aswell but the graphics are still good for a SMS Game thou obviously the Genesis Game was Graphically superior also the Gameplay seems to be the same. Thx alot for this Video.
