I have owned many old cars, mostly British or American, and find the minor the easiest to live with on a daily basis, due to its economy and reliability, plus if it does need repair, you can do most jobs with a knife and fork. My present one has a 1275 marina engine fitted to help it up the hills but stock mechanically otherwise. Plus as my pal from W I says, its cuter than his first girlfriends titties...thanks Lamonte
My first car was a Morris Minor 1000, which I paid $150 for. The reverse gear was blown, and you had to use the hand crank to start it, but I loved it.
My Dad had 3 of these cars 2 door 4 door and countryman He used to travel in his work and went through all sorts of weather and covered thousands of miles superb car if only UK could make a car to match it now
I had a 1959 Morris Minor while I was attending classes at UC Berkeley. This brought back memories. It was always a question about decisions--I could only have two "accessories" on at the same time. I could run the wipers and the lights or the lights and the radio, but not all three!
My first car was a 1959 Morris Minor YWK 554 I had always had motorbikes before and how nice was it to get about in the warm I have a Motorbike now but it only comes out when the Suns out thanks for the VID
Believe it or not, I learned to drive on this exact same car in the eighties. My grandpa used to take me to back roads 4 in the morning. I needed two pillows, as I was only 9 years old. I couldn't get the first gear in.
Bastard clutch goes in ground lol. But I loved driving it..........loved the starter pull out.....no power steering, almost ran over a guy one day. But all goes okay in third world lol. My grand pa remembers paying 6000 pounds for it. Could be wrong, it was 1963. He's gonna be 90 this year. I love you Grand Pa !!! AND thanks Morris Minor.
My first car was a 1960 cream color Morris Minor. I bought it new. I painted a blue racing stripe on it. Once, while chasing a blue tear drop Saab with a white racing stripe, we passed an unmarked Duval County, Florida unmarked sheriff car and I got a ticket. In a Morris Minor! I was proud of it! Long time ago.
we had an old miner on a farm i worked on in the 70s..in south wales.. to think we yoused it to chase sheep around in......lol..we rolled it over ..and rolled it back and it still ran ..... i wish we had it today...u couldent kill it
Nice video and nice Morris Minor. As a Brit, I'm often a little curious when I see some of our small cars in the States as to why such a car appeals to someone such as yourself - it isn't very powerful or glamorous! Can you enlighten me please? And does the license plate carry it's original British number or have you got a U.S. number on British style plates? Thanks :o)
Speaking for myself, not the producer of the film, some of us just like something very different. A Riley or Humber also gets more attention than an American Corvette. I don't know about the number plate. I do know there are some exemptions to be had on regulations, which very from state to state, if the car is classified as "antique", and driven under a certain amount annually.
Thanks for the information. In the UK the Morris Minor 1000 is one of the more common classic cars, usually likened to being a British equivalent of the VW Beetle. Having said that they are not as common in daily use as they used to be, but still if an average one passed by on a public road it wouldn't raise an eyebrow. However there is a huge enthusiast following and such good parts back up, including mechanical upgrades, that they are one of the best choices for easy classic car ownership.
My Uncle Ralph has a Morris minor 1000 which is sitting in his garadge right now, I've ridden in his once, but there no seatbelt in this car, its probably as difficult as Yugo
