Though I grew up in Miami FL, I was born in Northfield MN. In 1981, my uncle invited me to fly up to watch the state tournament. Needless to say, it was out of this world. The packed arena, the rabid fans, the level of play and the incredible energy are things I will never forget. The big star in that tournament was Phil Housley who was so good that even a hockey neophyte from Florida could see how special his talent was. I wish I could have played this game!!

You NE guys have no idea the kind of talent Minnesota public schools have. If you took the top 10 schools in the country Public or Prep, Minnesota would have over half of them.

With a few exceptions, most east coast schools couldn't lick the top tier hs teams in MN. Edina, Hill, Duluth East, EP, Wayzata, Jefferson, etc could take on any prep school in the country and win more often than not.

looks like minnesota takes a lot of pride in their high school hockey. Some of the teams are even as good as some of the New England Prep Schools

@mikeyedhockey14 LOL.. Many of our PUBLIC schools would destroy NE prep... NE has limited prep schools that play at our level, also they recruit the entire east coast... in MN, these are public high schools with historic hockey programs and coaching legends, and the kids have been playing together on the same team since they were 6 years old. It doesnt compare.

@lacore1988 I play for a prep school in Buffalo and play these NE guys all the time. All those school have great coaches and theres really no competition to which hockey is better because its a whole different part of the country, I'm just saying I've played against many kids who were drafted into the NHL in their senior years. I know minnesota high school is great. But MN hockey is definately not much better than NE. Both are high levels of hockey to get to college and the nhl.

@mikeyedhockey14 As a Shattuck-St. Mary's Alum, I'd like to confirm that Minnesota Hockey is by far and large much superior to anything in the country. Public or Private, it really doesn't matter. MN trumps anything out east.
