I neva measure.. proportions & perspctive r merely guidin tools.. a lil indication goes a long way. Observation, Practice & Perseverance will yield better results. As to those biatches here commentin on how wrong/right it is to use grids, tracing & all tht.. understand tht once u've started to replicate[draw/sketch/sculpt etc.] smfin' u hv started to cheat reality.[same argument holds w/ usin traditional media versus digital media] get it? lol maybe u do maybe u dont ;P who cares! @Johnstoneyy It certainlly has reallistic elements, but to give you an idea, it's like Megan fox wearing a begger's clothes. It is something potentially beautyfull but it loses almost all of its beauty in details. Measuring is not a strategy. There is no strategy. There are standar stages to the final product ,that each creator personalises, but he never avoids them. Plus for your info cameras make a lot of drawings to look better when filmed unless it is about a relly well detailed one

@Johnstoneyy look at at 2.17 and you will realise the upper head motion to the left (left the way you see it) and the lower head and mouth reverse motion to the right. This would have been easily prevented if the sketch was measured, and the designer had placed far away to see the if the whole of the head is in proportion. I the eyes were even or not it is ok as long as the iris of each one lines in proportioon to the rest of the parallels of the head.

I think he's agood amateur he is not by any means an artist. He's got a quite average (perhaps average to good) shading technique but nothing else. You can understand it by noticing one simple thing. First he does no measurements, he just starts to draw. Even the greatest of artists do a few sketches and in every one of them there is a bit of measurements just to keep proportions right. in this dog's head the eyes are in a wrong place compared to the whole head. just look at it carefully.

@Resengirl No maths there just observation.Having fun weather you sketch the overall volume or you get into extreme detail you learn amazing things about the object you're depicting. Imagine that you spend awful lots of hours trying to sketch a dog not including measurements.When you finish it you might realize it has a short leg, a fallen eyeball e.t.c., there you lose all the fun.Don't look at artists that do not measure but produce exact drawings they have spent millions of hours practicing

The point though is that there are rules that help you define and express your deeper feelings about your subject -(a. don't forget art is a form of expresion, b.''rules'' are your guide to succes and not some old fashioned shit). Its going to be perfect when you will be able to completly feel this dog exactly as it is in reality by looking at the artist's depiction of it
