  • The best version for this song i listened so far! BTW I'm loving korean music :) Thanks for sharing friends :D

  • lol I can't believe how many times I've heard this song!!

  • IThis category is called Gayagum Byung Chang, meaning more than one person is

playing the Gayagum side by side. They are basically singing about different types of birds, what sounds they make. Even so, what I most liked about this song is its ever changing melodies, powerful exclamation point s where Korean Lady singers let their hearts out. This is one of my favorite Korean "Minyo" for sure.

  • Even though I can't understand the language, I love the melody and love your spirit. Beautiful!!

  • 저선족의 여자들이 이쁘네요.

  • Is this in Yanbian K.A.R?

  • What the... Why...I think...I think you right!OMG!

  • I think this is made by Chinese Koreans.

  • I think you should call them Korean Chinese because they are Chinese of Korean ethnicity.

  • ah, I wish I knew what they saying coz this is so beautiful. I love you guys. China loves you Korea

  • 참으로 명창 입니다 잘들젓읍니다 감사합니다

  • Lovely really beautifull..sad that the sound isent better..

  • WOW!! I wish I could play that instrument! Looks so COOL! I LOVE their voices! So unique!

  • it is called kayagum

  • Yes, I know. My daegeum teacher's wife teaches gayageum, and I always enjoy seeing the instrument in their living.

  • Hi. I was adopted from Taechun South Korea. Would other Koreans accept me in their society? By the way, this was an amazing performance.

  • OF COURSE!!!! you're one of us (Korean/Korean-American)! :D

  • Only if you learn to speak Korean and make a decent effort to understand their culture... otherwise you're just a foreigner. Of course, they won't reject or turn you away. But they won't consider you truly Korean unless there is some kind of connection. I'm just talking about the Koreans in Korea, btw.

  • What is this song called?

  • "Sae taryeong" 새타령 or "Bird song"

  • wow...its pieces like this that REALLY make me wanna learn kayagum. I played Koto for a little over a year, but never anything even as remotly as rhythmic as this. Anyone know of a kayagum musician in Indiana?

  • you are correct

  • I started watching expecting silken grace.

    Instead I saw silken strength.

    Wow.

  • im not sure if these people are Korean minority in china. it s so sad that Korean people wont accept these people back to thier homeland.. there are still many Koreans people got left in russian.. (;_;)

  • yeah, they are. They are from Yanbian University. The girl in green actually won some prize in national contest recently. You can see her a lot in TV.

  • Hi,

Just curious, why is it that these people are not accepted back in Korea?? Just sounds unfair and crazy???

  • South Korea has its own problems. people are stuggling in the capitalist life styles. To accept other Koreans from other parts of the world is not an options for it. Of course Jews or Germans would accept their own people back to Germany or Isalael. But .. South koreans wont do that.. they are trying to living of helping.. We( south Koreans) ..are dying to find good job and living. sorry ..just eat shit and die.... i think that what most south korean will say .. hahha

  • Wow, 'never expected to learn this...Where I come from in Latin America, we're nowhere near as developed as South Korea but we'd never turn our own away. We don't have much but oftentimes we're willing to share what little we have...

  • I lived in Korea for ten years and I did witness extreme nationalism and pride in the country's "pureness." Such that they won't accept outsiders, even their own who have been 'tainted' from living abroad in a 'degraded state,' like North Korean refugees for example. Eventually they become social pariah and normal Koreans don't want to be associated with them. Ban Ki Mun United Nations leader is trying to address this kind of issues. This is older generation's fault. Impeach 이명박 !

  • I think partially, it has to do with North Korea still being communists and untrustworthy. S.Korea has had problems with spies from N.Korea in the past, so the gov't is very cautious of who they accept into S.Korea.

I just wish the two Koreas would unite soon. My grandparents originally came from N.Korea before the country got split up, so they used to talk about N.Korea all the time. It's so sad to even think about the past 100yrs of Korean history.

  • i met an elderly korean-american traveller in

seoul. he was originally adopted from n.korea before split. i walked the city with him. when he asked a man on the road how to get to a subway stn. the man looked really surprised and scared. it was the summer of 1996.

i wonder if his accents or.. what made the man so scared.. i still really don't know why..

  • Alright, I am not Korean by any extent of the imagination but I luuuv Asian music and this piece is definitely at the top my list of Kayagum pieces. Does anyone know what it's about? I love the signing and the music itself. I'm thinking it's a folk song perhaps? The performers' enthusiam adds to the beauty of the song even more.

  • it's "sae taryeong" (새타령) which means bird song... it's about different birds and the noises they make - very fun and light-hearted song ^^

  • Juicy...

  • it's pieces like this that make me love Korean music and culture more and more - thank you :-)

  • Now this is spectacular kayagum music which truly gives such magnificent light to its culture and music of Korea! I must say I do not enjoy hearing western compositions transposed to Asian instruments for the sake of "you can do it, so can we", very boring in that case right? Yes. Thanks for posting this!

  • tahts purdyfull

a tad louder than i enjoy, but pickers are choosers...

    wait...

  • they play and sing!? brilliant

  • so beautiful!!!!

  • so cool! but the sound quality could be better, still a really good song

  • I love this, each long zither from different parts of Asia are beautiful in their own special way. The kayagum is very unique to Koreans and this is beautifully presented with voice and percussion, simply a marvel to behold thank you for posting this! The audio is tremendously terrible.. Video is crisp.

  • LOVE IT woohoo too bad the video quality is so poor

  • omg I love that stuff but I agree with charliehuang. I wished the sound quality could have been much better.

Does anyone have a better copy they coudl send me?

  • Not as pleasant sounding as the Chinese guzheng. Singing is also only so-so...

  • it has its own characteristics that contrasts to the guzheng.

  • It is a pleasure to watsch and to listen!

  • sounded a bit like buddhist chanting. the gayageum sound is nice, but the video sound quality... >"< OMG!!

  • Authentic Korean I love it! :)

  • beautifull costums and music

  • Excellent!

  • Oh, and the instrument is a gayageum, not a guzheng.

  • Would have been great if the sound quality was better!

  • i love it
