  • These designs are so ugly it makes me uncomfortable. These are the products that are created thoughtlessly, with little to no research or insight behind them. Money and material resources are poured into them and out comes another completely forgettable, unremarkable eyesore that will end up in the trash within 30 days.

Please if you are considering Industrial Design, set your sights and source of inspiration a little higher.

  • What kind of problems do industrial designers solve?

  • anyone know free software for industrial design?

  • that is a very broad question, however for 2D editing you can start with GIMP and for 3D ... Blender

  • You can start with SketchUp, there's a free version, it's very simple, and is good enough for most furniture or rough objects and concepts.

But I don't know of any free software that does NURBS or parametric that is free, unless you're a student or you pirate of course. Cheapest NURBS modeler is Rhinoceros at 1000$, best is Alias (2:51) at 4000$ and upwards.

  • @coffius Industrial design is a profession. You need to study 5 years to get a degree.

There is no program what 'does' industrial design.

    The pencil is the tool.

  • If your asking that question, ID is not for you

  • very true.

  • what is the average pay for an industrial designer?

  • great insight.

    thanks for posting

  • I just found out what I want to do.

How do you become an Industrial Designer? college, courses?
