Sinatra recorded the song over five times including: with Axel Stordahl in his first solo session in 1942 and again with him in 1947; with Nelson Riddle in 1956 for A Swingin' Affair!, with Don Costa in 1961 for Sinatra and Strings - but to be the best version
So wrong people !!!.....Sinatra was influenced by Crosby, but he was not trying to imitate him or anyone else from that period, far from it. Sinatra was his own man from the beginning.
@bluesoulady ..your not alone with that response...the more songs that you hear Frank sing...the more you will grow to like... what he did so well..!!
actually i hear people say about singers that well they arent as young as they used to be so their voice aint so good. I disagree! it may be some people cant sing so well as they age but i certainly believe some people's voices improve with age!!
@bluesoulady ...Frank Sinatra had such wonderful company throughout his entiire career...the Best Songwriters,,.the Best Arrangers...the Best Musicians...for 60yrs...he was lucky to have them and we are lucky to have this great legasy of Great Music..!!
i really thought it wasnt him singing when i heard this first time, but now i realise of coure it is, when he was young, its just i am used to hearing his voice years later. Lovely song, lovely voice!
If you like this, you will also like "The Song Is You" recorded the same day. I uploaded it about 3 months ago. Check it out and let me know what you think.
I've never heard Sinatra from when he was this young .. you can tell he is trying to really be like the singers of the time .. but that undeniable Sinatra voice is creeping in.
I would like to make several comments since I uploaded this song. First, I research every song and try to be informative and as accurate as possible. Second, I was not offended by weetiger's initial comment. I realized that he was not familiar with Sinatra's early recordings and took it as an opportunity to educate him. Finally, I would request that we should all try to refrain from making critical comments. Thanks.
I have nice copy of this to sell. On Bluebird label 78 with Victor Dog above the Bluebird.

Great post! Sinatra also recorded this song in 1946 with Axel Stordahl using the same arrangement as the 1947 recording

@JokiTapio Yes, I mentioned this in the song information. The last version was with Joe Beck in 1977.

The one and only, the master of song, and phrasing. Let the imitators of Sinatra, imitate Sinatra of this period. Thanks for posting !!

You are correct. He was influenced at that time by the crooner style of singers such as Russ Columbo, Jack Leonard, and particularly Bing Crosby.

That's not Sinatra!

Sinatra was 26 when he recorded this. His voice deepened as he got older. Listen to "The Song Is You" which was recorded at the same time.
