Good discussion. But, what irks me about many such discussions is how people choose not to acknowledge how unnatural our lifestyle, and therefore the energy demand, are.
By choosing not to acknowledge the fact that a fundamental change in our value system is needed to solve the crisis intelligently, they imply that the problem is on the supply side and not very much on the demand side, when the actual problem is clearly on the demand side!!!
I was surprised, how easily powerful people are treating solutions about energy problems, but when somebody is coming with something really new and different, people with financial sources are always very skeptical. On YouTube I am presenting 4 videos of my new and very low cost solution for efficient exploitation of huge energy from all slowly moving rivers. Also fact is that the most of us could not even come in contact with such people like Mr. Eric Schmidt is.
haha I kinda got an idea off of what eastontario said....
considering the 1:18:37 movie has to stream and buffer and use networked resources...which overtime consumes a sufficient amount of electricity and energy to just have all 7,831 people (at the time) watch this video about energy concepts and ideas.
Although I am an F1 student in the USA it seems that there is too much focus on what companies can do for America, rather than what they can do for humanity. The energy problem is universal and global. I don't care if Trinidad can build a better solarcell or power storage device as long as I can use it wherever I am. I believe the principles of American economics also has its part to play in the crisis that has befallen us. If the thinking changes maybe we all can make a difference.
While very informative, this 1:18:37 movie is quite a consumer of bandwidth, even if I started the download.
Translating 79 minutes into Megs of download, mid day download on congested network recommends recent study "anonymize".
If I lose confidence I can hide in aggregate data, perhaps there's finger pointing.
I can watch the movie TWICE and leave it on my screen for friends, relatives and co-workers to see, before closing the window towards justifying their vicious 'email out' knifing.
@1:01 "are any of you students inspired?" Less today than 10 years ago when DMCA and other intellectual property law was passed; students started turning away from science and technology. The hurdle to develop technology and manufacture it without risk of being sued for accused theft of intellectual property became too high. Remove or retard the legislation and WE WILL BUILD IT. The green revolution can happen overnight by individuals or be dragged out over decades by restrictive bureaucracies.
There are movies already on youtube, just click on videos at the top of the page, then find where it says movies. at the moment there are 30+ movies here on youtube.
One video i recommend is the Randy Pausch video, it's not a movie, it's a speech, his last, but it's well worth it.

Educated people can talk about energy for over an hour, and not touch on what we can do as individuals; Can do today Like not using animal products!
Sounds to me like the academics are only thinking about getting there departments funded.
Get the advertising people on a project that will seal people on not using animal products.
Would be a plus.
