  • I love the "HUH" at 3:06

  • I bet Anette could do a better job on this. Hell, I bet Marco could attempt all the soprano notes, probably fail miserably, and still sound better than Tarja here.

    The instruments are okay.

  • is it just me or the melody of the refrain is similar to the music of 'the last mohican'???

  • Sugar tits...

  • Although this version ist pretty good, Tarjas voice improved A LOT! Check this out: youtube.com/watch?v=H8eeXraG2rA&feature=related

  • Oh, one of the best musics of old Nightwish!

  • This is one of Nightwish most difficult songs, but listen to this live in the 90´s, it was some time ago. And perfect!

This is different, since its like six years after it´s recorded.

    But its definately not bad.

    Its VERY hard to sing.

But listen to this song live with only Tarja, she performed it this year...

    VERY GOOD!!!

  • @Nightwishoneandonly listen Tarja version. with tempo and original tono ... search like.. Tarja stargazers tampere

  • She sang this song even better in Poland, two days ago. Her voice has amazingly improved.

  • @alejonightwish and i like the instrumentalists even more! lol :)

  • I really like this version of the song! It's more melodic inspite of being less powerfull (because its a bit slowed down)... but it still has got that Oceanborn spirit, and creativity! Probably the band felt more confortable by playing it this way, because we cannot forget that they had an entire concert to do... so its better to keep the streght until the end of the Tour. hehe

Unfortunately there will be no more Nightwish tours like this one... An I would pay a Lot to see this song live again!

  • my favorite Nightwish song, stargazers ftw, i'll take this performance over nothing, it's hard to find this song being played live anyway. To those who don't like it, suck on it, cause now you'll never hear it live!

  • Slowed down and moved down in pitch. Not as good as the early recording, she had to try really hard back then

  • my wet dream is to hear this song live! \m/

  • I don't like to say this, but they play it rather badly in this one..

If you want to listen to a better execution, search for one of their older lives :)

  • How much do they want to slow it down.. seriously... lol

  • @AdamChallice

    oi fuck off wanker :P

  • @FotecVideoVault Lol it's fail!

  • I'd love to hear this song live again some day if the band took it's time practising and perfecting it.

  • Those ppl who say tarja is a mezzosopran, its wrong wrong wrong! Just read at Tarjas own site.. Tarja was a Dramatic Soprano but she have changed to a Light Lyric Soprano.

  • sorpano???, meso soprano diras...

  • nono.. she's a soprano

  • soprano is higer than tarja.

  • Tarja is a Light Lyric Soprano...

  • She's a dramatic mezzo soprano. I am a light lyrical soprano and my voice is completely different to hers.

  • Its because everyone have diffrent voices, just listening to Sarah Brightman for exampel, you have so wrong, just learn and read abour Tarja and you will get the right answer :S

  • IMO Sarah Brightman's voice is actually quite light compared to Tarja's. Tarja's voice is heavier in timbre than someone like her even though she has a large tessitura. While people do have different voices she is still a mezzo-soprano because her timbre is more suited to her lower down. That doesn't mean she can't sing high, because I know she can. I'm a very dedicated fan of Nightwish and I'm studying music at uni. I wouldn't comment if I didn't think I knew a lot about the subject in concern.

  • @jennythemusicmaker She's a lyric Soprano not at mezzo, thou she studied mezzo technique but she's lyric soprano (she herself says so...)

  • @aguilaix

  • at first i was nt sure whether i liked it slower, but then you get to 2:08 and it all makes sense. the slower tempo made that section alot better

  • this song was great precisely because of the fast tempo. tarja sounds good, but slowing it down kinda kills it.

  • great!!!

is tuned in D? and is slower

    greets

  • I love Tarja´s voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its ... slow?

  • I actually love this version!

  • tarja's voice changed so dramatically after their century child tour..

  • angelfallfirst91, the fact that she had a dramatic soprano timbre and turned into a lyric one, doesn't mean she lost her voice. Where is it written that Lyric sopranos or Light sopranos are less good or less important than others?

Its more a question of liking the timbre or not. Natalie Dessay (a Lyric soprano) and Beverly Sills (a light soprano), even with a Lighter timbre than Anna Netrebko (a dramatic soprano), are considered much better than her, its just an exemple among lots of them!

  • sorry, but tarja she was a lyric-dramatic soprano, and she damaged her voice singing the repertory of dramatic strong, and turn in to lyric.

    now in 2009 she is a scit!ahahaa

  • :S asshole, Tarja have not ''damaged'' her voice, she have upgrade hear singing style and techniqe. She's better than ever now, just hear In For A Kill or Ciaran's Well or some of the more classical songs!

  • this version is so ..

    warm, loving, nightwish, perfect

  • to 80XxbelialxX08: I think that "Passion and The Opera" is even more difficult to sing than "Stargazers"... and it is also an Amazing song!

"Passion and the Opera" uses a lot of staccato with very high notes, higher than "Stargazers". But this one is also very very hard to sing, those 2 songs are probably the hardest to sing that nightwish ever made.

    Nightwish is great!

  • But StarGazers is faster than Passion and the Opera, and if you check the lyrics, some words aren't just... common xD it has a very difficult lyrics to sing.

  • OMG! THAT WAS SO AMAZING!!!! XD

This is THE most difficult song that Nightwish ever made (yes, I think it's more difficult than "Passion And The Opera"), and she did it so perfectly...

Now is official: Tarja is not human... she is a goddess!! XD

  • :X:*:*:LOVEEEE IT:X:*:*:*

  • I love this version! ^,..,^

  • this is one of the most difficult song of Nightwish, and she does it perfectly. love tarja forever

  • @MarianeLee Perfectly?? This version is awfully over-tuned...

  • Comment removed

  • i love it, this is one of most amazing songs ever, i hope anette never sings it ;))

and everyone who claims how tarja lost her voice, you can hear here that also the instrumentalists lost their skills, they are far from perfect, actually.

  • @dreaminpurple i agree

  • @dreaminpurple I don't expect live recordings to be perfect. But this sounds sounds just horrible, with low tempo and tuned down.

  • Its great to know that they played this in their Once tour!

And even a bit slowed I think its still AMAZING!

I wish I could see it live!

  • I don't like it as much compared to the 99 version... not because Tarja's poppier voice in the verses but the slowing thing, these guys could play that song back then, how come they couldn't do it again after a few years? honestly, makes no sense to me.

  • I can't imagine the amazing feeling that is to listen to this song live! I wish there was a video of this one! Amazing!

  • Actually it seems that over 18.000 people are interested. And this is a rare performance, because they didn't sing this song a lot in the "Once" tour....

  • they played it RARELY like at the start off at the tour ..... and eventualy it got droped from the setlist halfway into 2004 ....

another song that got this treatment was Elvenpath ... but no one ON EARTH has a recording of that one .... =*[

  • Every.One except YOU!

  • She is also has a lot more control now. If you watch the '99 version you will see she is all over the place vocally and sloppy. Mature Tarja is much better vocally.

  • this song is a bomb

  • Tarja has lost some of her operatic voice(see the interpretation from '99 and compare to this)but she has gained more control.

  • I've heard a couple of previous live versions of this song, Helsinki 7-9-99 and another from 12-6-99, and on both of the other ones Tarja just doesn't have good control of her voice (she was ~20, it's to be expected) and on one of them she struggled mightily to hit the highest notes, botching them in a way I've never heard her botch anything else and on the other she hits the notes just fine, but has no enunciation - she sounds like James LaBrie.

  • As to this version: I don't prefer the less classical/more contemporary voice she uses on most of the verses of this song, but on the chorus and on "the starborn..." she's using her full opera voice - I've watched her classical peformances and that's exactly the same voice she uses in front of an orchestra. This version of Stargazers is a testament to how far she's advanced. She's much more consistent and in control here - nailing the chorus exactly the same way every time.

  • Also, they're performing it tuned down a step lower than the original recording. But it still sounds great none the less! :D

  • A singer is supposed to improve as they advance through their 20's. This doesn't usually happen in heavy metal because most singers start ruining their voice with alcohol and drugs once they start making money. That's part of why Tarja is so stunning. You can tell she struggled with this song in the studio because they chorused her voice on the high notes. I'd give a finger if I could go back in time and have this added to End of an Era.

  • I'd give my whole freaking left ARM!!!!

    O_O

it NEEDED to be in End of an Era!!!

    that and ... Elvenpath ... =*[ (sniff)

yes Elvenpath ((another historical pian-in-the-bum to sing)) was also played on this tour but was never recorded be ANYBODY!!! ((don't beleve me I have the tracklists for some 2004 shows)) so ... we are left to only to dream of what it might have sounded like ... <=(

  • hehe , actually i would love to see whole discography in End of an era ,but that would be hard to perform :P

  • she mentioned in a interview that during her 9 years with nightwish. she had trouble singing the songs and had to learn how to adjust her voice to that type of music. still the song sounds amazing

  • I wish I had as much trouble as she does singing this type of music.

  • Empuu is a mighty elf !!!! O_O

  • I Just love to listen to this live version, even a little bit slowed, it shows how well composed this song is, and Tarja's voice here is as good as in the Oceanborn times, she belts every note and for longer periods than in the recording that was done long time ago...

  • THIS BLEW ASS

  • I think it was the last time they play this song, very sad...

And it's amazing to see Tarja singing this song in 2004, 'cause her voice was better and powerful. Look at 2:07 , =O

  • sorry it was

    -->

    at all....

  • i love this version :D

i can't stop listenning since i found it yesterday

  • and anyway i think she's performed this song very well

  • i love her voice live

it's not as perfect as in the studio and that's why i love it :D

  • i find it better live...she has better technique now than she had in oceanborn :)

    tarja is an awesome singer

  • WTF???

    why did they slowed it???

    mmm

    I still like it...

  • they slowed it beacuse it was a pain in the ass to play (and sing) which in my opinion makes the song as godly as it is =D

  • This stinks that a small portion of the song that gets cut off.

  • I like singing this song in its original notes... Tarja is perfect anyway :)

  • I dislike it!! because she never wrote any song for nightwish.. she just sang in the band.. toumas gave her the lyrics and the rate!!

  • I like it ... beacuse Tuomas hasn't played it in years beacuse it was a pain in the ass to sing for her ... and he has it played anyway ... beacuse it is a good Nightwish song ... it dosn't matter if it's singible or not ... it's Nightwish and he wont deny it ... and thats what still makes Nightwish amazing to this day ...

  • but I see were your getting at ... she was spoon feed her fame ... and lyrics ...

but the song is good ... Tuomas handles the keyboards like a god! =]

  • wow she is just amazing

  • Staergazers is a hard song!Tarja has to change her notes very fast from low to high! And she is doing very well although her voice was really fucked up in the latest nightwish years, because of the pop sounding (vocally) songs!

But well her voice is perfect again, today =)

  • j'adore =DDD

  • Tuomas always said the original Stargazers is the hardest song they have, and on the verge of not playable live after all. Now Tuomas isn't the most technical out there, but he sure knows how to play.

No wonder this version is slowed down.

  • They played it like in the Cd on their Oceanborn concerts ;) I think there are some videos here ;)

  • Yes, I know. That doesn´t say that Tuomas can´t say that it is the hardest song from Nightwish, and being on the verge of being playable live.

  • I know this song is A PAIN IN THE ASS TO PLAY AND SING!!! which makes it one of there best! the fact that they were able to play that EVERY NIGHT during the Oceanborn tour is still amazing =] and the thought of reserecting that song after years of denyal playing it is just EPIC! Nightwish OWNS!!!

  • So they really played it there back in 2004, I was already beginning to think I had imagined hearing it in Ruisrock 2004 :D

I was there, thank you for posting this!

  • lucky nightwisher!!! =D

did they play the full intro?

  • it fells slower than the MP3 version

  • Her vocals weren't as impressing as it was back in 1998 when coming to live perfomances, but if Tarja wants to sing this live on her now solo-career tour, it would sound AWESOME! <3

  • ughh her accent is so terrible here :( Tarja was best in the earlier years :S

  • It's a weird slower version but it's good, but the 1999's version is better

  • love this song though it is not a video:)

  • wow it's a really good version. Miss that era =/

  • you know they should have played this at End of an Era .... that would have rocked ...

  • OMG!!! xD

I thought they totaly rejected this song after the Oceanborn tour!!! MY GOD! =D

the true Nightwish wasn't dead in them after all!!!!

  • I like the 1999 videos better :D

  • This song rocks live! Cool!

  • This version is the best :D

  • I've never heard this song in a live version which is this "new" :D

  • i wish this was a video :( a great song from the oceanborn times, the greatest era of nightwish.

  • Oh, it's not video.... =(
