@RinzSach If you haven't been able to teach him yet, here is a quick trick. If your dog wants the food (which he should) you can use it to get him to look at you. Put it in your hand near your leg or anywhere not near your face. You can even wave it around. Say the dogs name, then move the treat to your forehead. When the dog looks at you, say good and immediately give him the food. With in a day or two, he should know what is expected and you can continue with the training in this video. GL
@unityspirit51 lol, yeah sometimes you have to be cautious of that... like her repeating "good" isn't suggested.. she should use different terms of a good job other then the word "good". She could use excellent then the next time use awesome or great, but she shouldn't constently repeat good, because after a period of time he will think his name is "Barto Good" lol your right.
@XL962 have you ever heard of random reinforcement? Once the dog has the general concept of a trick, you then begin to randomly reinforce and after he's ok with that you then rarely reinforce.

have never trained my dogs to learn their names with treats. never even intentionally trained them to their names, yet if i say their names they stop dead in their tracks and look at me expectantly for instruction. training them to know their name specifically, may be fun and give you something to do, but in my opinion is just goofing around and wasting time that you could be using to teach them other more important things. that's just me. i give my dogs a little more intellectual credit.

@ricevid It's not eye contact so much from what I've gathered. It's making your dog respond to you and give you his/her attention. In this way, he/she is acknowledging that you are the boss and are asking permission or instructions. (Still a newbie myself XD Might be wrong.)

@Justme2simply looks a bit like a corgi, maybe mixed with something else. and there are tons of videos for potty training in many different ways here on youtube, but may i suggest leaving a bell or an easy button near the door instead of barking/scratching. thats how i trained my dog, and barking/scratching seems naughty to people, but your dog going up and pressing an easy button is a great conversation starter :D

@WorldDisasterStudios: In my OPINION (really, just my opinion, don't know if it's true or not), spayed female Lab puppies are least distracted by things around them, and therefore more attentive to training. All of my Labs have been female, and two out of the three have been the most intelligent dogs I've ever been around. (The third, a little Yellow named Becky, was possibly the dumbest...jumped off a bed and broke her leg, jumped off a sailboat into the Chesapeake Bay, out of a MOVING CAR..)

Yeah I have one. He's house trained but loves the outdoors. He knows the words; window, ball, out, go pee and roll over. He can do some tricks like shake, roll over and sit. And when someone says 'window' he'll run to the window. x) Yeah so they are the most intelligent.

One time I repeat ONE TIME, I yelled my dog's name in a really angry voice because he wasnt listening... and i was frustrated. Then he came to me, layed on his back on my foot, and he made a really sad face and whining noise... and it made me tear up and say sorry. OMG i feel so bad. I'm not a bad owner. He was my first dog and i was like 10. hope you new owners dont do that...
