im going to suscribe to this as i have just bought some numark decks begginer package just your standard mixer and turntables but this vid actually really helped as i just tried that and i just mixed my irst song wooooo lol thanks pal
@Valommusic hey u might have already figured this out but there are buttons on certain mixers and controllers that correspond with what turntable or track u hear. hope this helped!
@Valommusic Like SK3PTIX said on some mixers you got cue buttons on each channel. But on other mixers, like the typical starter mixers from Numark you have a cue slider, which works just like a crossfader. Hope this one helped as well.
@Valommusic No. Generally the headphones are used to listen to the track that is not being played through the speakers. Crossfader is on the left track and the headphones are monitoring the one on the right, getting it ready to mix into the one currently playing through the speakers. Of course you can change any part of this up, but that's what it's general use is for
i dont really know how to do turntable mixer. it looks complicated. idk i rather do it at computer, what i have is fl fruity loops. that is what i do to mix. but if i know how to mess around and play with it, i probably like more than fl fruity loops. one thing i dont like is theres 2 disc. disc 1 is other side and disc 2 is right side. disc 1 is playing and you gota make disc 1 to fade out so disc 2 can fade in or you can play both songs at the same time.
@tommyaj200 dude, mixing means combining two songs, or transitioning from one another while making it sound good. Its impossible to do that with fl studio, and the last sentence you said makes no sense because u just said you dont like the only purpose of turntables.
@tyinykiller5 the things i like fl fruity is that you can make beats, sounds and make music easily, i mean to me. i just gota know more about turntable.
Thanks man, good props. What do you do with your covers for the 1200s. I keep mine on unless in club. But they are in the way. But if you are on the fly and mixing, and than have to run an errand, its nice to leave a record on table without putting it away. My questions is do you use your covers or a sheet.
how do dj's mix vocals and instrumentals with two completely different tracks.... Like DJ hero 2... They use the instrumentals of rude boy with vocals of replay.... and then use the vocals of rude boy with instrumentals from replay... what knobs do they use on the mixers?
@rami62392 DJ Hero is not like DJing. They've taken many samples (single sounds of tracks like vocals instruments etc), and put them into songs that are new incarnations from their originals. Sampling is not DJing You need to know the keys(notes), tempo, levels to piece this stuff together. If you're that interested check out Traktor's S4 for live-looping over regular DJing and Ableton Live. Pro Tools, Fruity Loops for production. You can buy just vocal tracks, or you can extract them yourself.
hey man i was thinking of getting into djing and well i dont know what to buy.. Im a college student so I just have like a 180-250 dollar spending limit... what do you suggest... I just want to manipulate tracks and make them sound good together
First you need to choose your gear ... if i were you i would buy 2 cheap turntables and 1 mixer .. i would search the cheapest because you don`t DJ professionaly and you don`t need a 5000 $ gear .. and you are a begginer.. Learn basics buy a cheap gear and start to mix .. see if you like it and if you like it continue with it as a hobby or if you want do it professionally.Search for turntables and mixer, look for cheap gear :)
absolutely love your videos man...just keep rocking....is there anyway I can make two tracks of different BPMS sound good ..(eg:120 and 100)..can I make these sound good together without matching the bpms
my problem is to find 2 matching tracks :/// can comeone give me a tip on how to match 2 tracks pls. . . cheers very interesting tutorial !!! keep it up
Hey. is there a way to get rid of the drums part of a track, like if two tracks have drums? since I want to be a dj someday I want to learn if this is possible, since there are tracks I might want to mix together and want to know if you can seperate instruments.
Hey guys! Im Dj Leopard, and i'm a new dj wanting to hear some constructive criticism from you guys! add me and subscribe and tell me what you think of my mixes! Im new but always willing to learn something! thanks guys!
i learned alot a lot from you man !!!! you are the best dj teacher ever. bdw i am from Malta...do you know where it is??10x alot keep on making vids........
Was given some similar advice when i started out, cos i was trying to do it all and be excellent, and its the best advice!!! People cant hear u in ur bedroom, studio etc So no matter how bad it sounds, DONT WORRY!
just to let you know, you're not the only one who thought that.
everybody wants to to be a dj. only very few actually make it. but you can still give it a shot. though you should get some cdj's; i suggest cdj-1000's or cdj-800's. cd's are far more available than vinyl, and vinyl-to-cd is much easier than cd-to-vinyl.
stick with the vinyl! if you are worried about availability of records, you can always be a virtual DJ and use serato or torq. cdj's dont have the same feeling and are frowned upon by most (although, some cdj users actually have better skills than some vinyl dj's).
this is pretty much how ive been starting out although ive been doing it the other way round (the track coming in has reduced bass and then i raise that and decrease the bass of the old track)
Well put! I didn't find my own style till after mixing for a good 8 months or so. I started with House, then went to Trance, then to Hardstyle ect.. ect.. ect.. and eventually wound up with a Dubby-Breakbeat style that I love. My advice, mess around with abunch of different genres till you find that "sound" that can't be explained but felt!
Even tho i've been mixing for over 8 years and knew all that . It was still very interesting and motivating im pretty sure it's the ore inspiring "practice and enjoy" thanks Jono
Great J! This looks like answer to mail I sent you recently too:)!Can you work this out maybe in more sequence-video's, like how to bring in 2nd track at right place in track 1, since the 2nd seems always already playing(cued) a few bars before it's fader is put up, but it's always playing at the right part with the 1st track...Just queing up and hit play with bothe faders open seems not the right way, instead of what I wrote above. How do you do it!?
Well a lot of tracks are structured in a similar way. For example, 16 bars into your trance track, the bass might come in. You need to know your tracks, and know when this the bass is coming in (all tracks are difference).
On the other track, you might therefore wait until it is about 32 bars from the end of the song ... say as the main afterbreak (that euphoric set of bars after the quiet break in the middle of most trance songs) is ending you start the next track playing. They are in time on the beat, but more importantly the bars are in time. So just as the 1st track is dropping off the bass, the bass of the next song comes in.
You really need to know the tracks you are playing and how they work.
would you mind making a video on the crossfader curve? on my mixer(denon dn-x1500) i can change the curve but i don't know what to use better(the one that both tracks are the same loud in the middle or the point when they are loudest is out of the middle and in the middle of the cf it will be a slightly softer sound.
