Ron Paul wants to keep for-profit healthcare.

For profit health care isn't a bad thing. The reason that it is so expensive is because of government meddling, propping up first-dollar down health insurance. When your insurance pays the very first dollar with no question then there is no demand for lower prices and no competition to fuel innovation or patient satisfaction.

Actually part of the problem is lack of regulation.

For one, the healthcare industry can claim a procedure is experimental as it suits them in order not to cover it.

Look up HSA's. They are the future of healthcare. Very cheap insurance that only kicks in in the case of an emergency, and all of the routine doctor visits and so on are then tax-refunded. There are many studies that show that people with this type of coverage take better care of themselves and seek preventive care more often. Personal responsiblity empowers people, government control makes the system inefficient.
