I was at the first show which the film and recored are from. This was a tight band with keltner and ringo on drums, klaus vorrman on bass, and the great Billy.preston on Hammond. This was the first time Keltner met and played with Ringo.
The show "Unsung" brought me here. Even though I was really saddened about how Billy's life turned out (because of the sexual abuse at nine), it is so obvious that he truly had a gift from God. It seemed that he was a treasure of a person, and I don't think there will ever be anyone to fill his shoes.
I met him at a Beatlesfest in Chicago a few years ago. A wonderful gentleman he posed for pictures and signed items when he obviously wasn't feeling well. Truly missed.
the song "Jesus Is the Answer" by Paul Simon Live Rhymin' I'm pretty sure has the same riff almost exactly. (I think Paul took it) from Billy. But o well its a awesome song, gotta love it when Billy stands up.
WOW! AWESOME! Billy taking us 2 church. More importantly "LISTEN" 2 the words. Spreading the word in his interpretation through his gift of music. Now that's what "MINISTRY" really is, reaching out 2 "ALL". Contrary 2 what the church may say or how they feel. We tend 2 put 2 much emphasis on how the gospel is suppose 2 be spread. As long as it's "UNADULTERATED" Who's 2 judge.
Billy Preston was the 5th Beatles- he was the only non- Beatles credited on an album and many times- and during the Let it Be sessions he helped relieve tensions by being there and playing with the Beatles at George's invitation. he showed up to the concert for Bangladesh unlike Paul and John, played at George's memorial concert, and was an amazing organ player on his own
I have alot of Live DVD concert footage. The Concert for Bangladesh is probably by far the best one I have seen and heard along with Concert for George..
It's true God is making a very nice band up there,John Lennon and George Harrison in guitars,Billy in keyboards,Keith Moon in drums and John Etelwisse in bass....they should sounds great!!!
In a world of contemporary overproduced, homogonized and frankly boring praise music, this is a classic and a reminder of how great gospel music can really be. Go Billy, go!
An amazing song in an amazing concert. Genius performer surrounded by genius. Layers and layers of genius. There's a light that comes off this song nearly 40 years later. Just brilliant.
I remember seeing this in the theatre back when it first came out (1972?). Billy Preston and this song energized the band and the concert; up until this song it had been rather pedestrian, but he really fired up everybody with his performance here. Besides being fantastic on the Hammond, he was the best voice on stage that night. RIP Billy; we sure do miss ya!
I've just been trying to piece together this entire concert and I can't believe there are 5 comments on this song! compared to how many comments there are for Harrison songs...don't forget Billy!
