@ioannidis007 CyanogenMod is going strong! The C&D from Google meant he couldnt re-distribute Google's proprietary apps as part of his ROM. Instead, a user now flashes a rooted base image from Google, then overlays it with the latest CyanogenMod update. CMod is now available as v4.x for HTC Dream/G1/Magic/MT3G (32B phones) and v5.x Motorola Droid and the Google Nexus One. Hopefully v5 will also be installable on 32B phones, too, once the 3D video driver issue is resolved.
This is insane! I mean c'mon iPhone kiddies - this is possible since a long time on Android. iPhone users won't get (fake) multitasking until November!
@Shrink21: And even in November they still won't be able to download songs from personal servers as I have on this video. Same applies to many other files. iTunes gets in the way. This isn't the case with Android. It's much more like a PC - any file from anywhere to anywhere....and you can install an app from any source...not just the vendor's store.
@ado543 Multi-taking on Apple handheld devices is much more limited than on Android. As you can see in this video, there is no reason why it should be this way. The phone in the video has a maximum clock speed of 528MHz and in constrained only by the amount of RAM (192MB). Apple iPhone and iPad have higher specs than this, yet aren't allowed to perform the simple set of tasks shown here.
@asolomon15 The battery is affected by a lot of different things: screen brightness, GPS, Wifi, 3G, Bluetooth and the system itself. Of all these the system is the least demanding....and you have control over all the others. If you sit there and web browse non-stop over GPRS or 3G in an area with poor reception, the battery goes in 2-3 hours. But if you use it for 10-15 mins out of each hour on wifi from 7am, you'll be good well into the evening. I usually get through to bed time no worries.
The version of Android is Cyanogen Mod v4.2.14.1. The cube transition is one of several that are part of "GDE Home"....an alternate Home application available in the Android Market.
@starscream3413: In the video, it's Cyanogen Mod v4.2.14.1. ( latest is v4.2.15.1). It's a mod of stock Android v1.6 by Steve Kondick - a.k.a. "Cyanogen". He's a great programmer. Using the source code for Android v2.1 is now available, he has been able to "backport" many v2.1 features so they work on CyanogenMod. My opinion is that for THIS phone, Cyanogen Mod is the best version of Android to run. Multi-touch, wifi tether and Apps2SD alone are compelling.

Did Cyanogen stop the Cyanogenmod development? I heard he did, due to some legal issues and complaints from Google.

@aenemaosX: The app is "GDE Home". It's a paid app from the Android Market. Very customisable with many themes available.
