Are people really surprised that the government is captured by capitalists? The US gvt needs to stop private financing of elections tout court and institute tax-payer funded elections so that elected officials are no longer beholdened to a few capitalists. In addition, voting in the US should be mandatory for all Americans to give the incumbent massive political capital to confront entrenched, monied interests.

@uru86 Good as far as it goes, but consider this: note all of the voter fraud that took place in 2000 and 2004. See Greg Palast's website for a start on this topic. There was ALOT of voter disenfranchisement in BOTH 2000 and 2004. So your advice is good, but it doesn't go far enough. The US must also ensure HONEST elections.
