Very nice cover. And the sound is just right and very well balanced between treble, middle and bass. You can often hear resonator guitar that sound too agressive or too trebly, here is perfect, thanks to your touch I believe also.
@ericcrook16 I hope that was a sarcastic comment. This is one of the best RJ replications I've ever heard. That's a hard thing to do considering the low quality of his recordings. This is a DAMN FINE JOB!
that strumming bit is what everybody misses and yet is so key to Johnson....it;s so hard tho. If you don't play fingerstyle, this is as good as it gets.
this song was made back when music was still music and it required talent to be gain someones attention and respect long enough to listen to your music. I just wanna say I am very impressed and you did a great job and youre white lol jk.
hi parapedal! thanks a lot! hopefully with more practice i can get this closer to the original - there a plenty of licks to learn, and most importantly i'd really like to learn to sing! pity I didn;t grow up around the gospel church!
That was fantastic. I was wondering what guitar your using? The reason I ask as I hope to start learning slide guitar pretty soon and I am unsure at what guitar to buy...do you have a recommendation for a beginner guitar that has a bluesy sound???
thanks for your comments woland99. I hear what you're saying! but i am quite familiar with the song in my head, but putting those sounds out to guitar is quite hard - but yes the attempt at Preaching blues could do more merit to the original. Some singing would help! As for slowing it down, maybe, but the original is really quite fast. Cheers!
:) yeah - RJ's original is simply awesome. I'll never get it - and I can't sing either! :) It'd be interesting to give it a go on one of those old Martin guitars - i think that's what Johnson played. The tricone is quite a different sound
hey pilotfish! cheers for the tip! Funnily enough i got the same tip from Bob Brozman at a guitar tutorial today. I am away from my tricone for 2 months so I'll be itching to get back to practice
Thanks everyone for your kind words! Yeah i'm going to give a bit of singing a go next time - can't sing for sheit though!
There are a lot of really good players on youtube and a lot of really good performances, but for the first time I'm jealous! Good job man, put up some more vids!
Outstanding! Accurate enough remdition to know what track it is, with bags of your own flare thrown in for good measure. I have seen this track done before but I've not seen it done better.
Yeah ! Great job ! Love your playing and rythm...Your guitar is a National reissue, right ? Sounds great...You should sing, your cover will be just perfect !
great work!!!

I dig how you copy Johnson's style down to the T. The resonator adds a lot. I applaud you sir.

im going with open D, probably a 1/2 step up the way it gets distorted on Johnson's record, but open D sounds swell

This comment has received too many negative votes show
What is the point of doing a song like this as an instrumental? It needs a vocal. There are too many videos like this on YouTube.

Anyone who can play this song period deserves to be seen

not bad, try making a song like that of your own.
Johnnyblonde89 5 years ago
Not bad altho you do not present different musical
element clearly enough so there is logical connection
between them - if you do not know original then it
looks like one descending lick that you learned well
and some random fragments that you did not present
clearly enough. There is no balance. You may want to
slow down so that music talks in full sentences.

You probably slide the guitar with iron on your finger. I slide the guitar with a snone in my hand. You are a very good gitarist.

Not yet, I have a guitar since a half year, and there are 2 strings destroyed. But when its repaired I can play the Midnight Special with a stone.
