OriginalRanger84... They never came with a cat on em man, he just has some teeny tiny pipe on there that muffles it out a little. If he ran some 2.5 or 3 inch with a tip it would really talk then

I grew up with the sound of ford diesel trucks. Chiquita banana had a fleet of 250+ vehicles in the plantation i grew up in central america. Mostly f350 and f250 and they had like 30 f150s gasoline for the executives who didn't work in the field.

cool vid. i have a 7.3 idi non turbo. i am thinking about takin the mufler out and just replacing it with sum pipe. i dont want nothing to loud but will it give me better sound an sum better mpg?

A unmuffled non turbo idi is louder than hell. You might get better mpgs, but youll be spending that money on aspirin.

A turbo IDI isnt so bad, just in case you ever turbo it.

yah i check on sum prices for turbo's but there to damn expencive for me to get.. thanks for the info saves me from cuttin up my exahust and wastin time.. i think i am going to run a 4 inch pipe all the way to the bed and run 5 inch stacks with a miter cut outa the bed..

put on a nice long glass pack and your non turbo will sound awesome, like a nice hi compression big block rumble, when you start to pull hard it will absolutely rattle windows as you pass by...:)

i have a 6.9 idi, an i had it straight pipe,but after some readin in my hanes manual, i added just a thrush welded muffler, and the added backpressure did wonders for the tourque curve, and the sound isnt bad, so muffler are more effective on non turbo ford diesels (surprisingly)

yeah i've added a muffler since its a straight thru muffler called the pypes m80 it gives a better tone for sure

Well the turbo kinda brings some back pressure... plus it depends on the size of the pipe. I put a thrush GP on mine, sounds nice. Mine was also way louder without the muffler (it didn't have a cat but... might just be the vid though)

Is that a non turbo idi? I got a 92 and I wanna straight pipe it but when I pulled the exhaust of she was way to loud so Im wondering if i just pull the muffler off and put a pipe in place if it would be any quieter than no exhaust at all

this a non turbo and this is my old setup and it alot quieter then my new setup wixch is right before the rear tire pretty much the more pipe the quiet

Was the 7.3L IDI Diesel turbocharged or was that only the 7.3L Powerstroke? I didnt hear a turbo.

its naturally aspirated no turbo here. powerstroke didnt come til 94.5 and they are direct injection not indirect.

7.3 idi's were turbo'd in 94, possibly late 93, only, until the powerstroke came out mid year in 94

straight piped means no cats, particulate filters, mufflers or anything else right? Just headers to metal tubes.

yeah but on mine it only had a muffler on it in the first place. cats didnt come til later years and diesel particulates didnt come out til 08

if i'm not mistaken i think it was 06. Anyway nice truck i have one just like it that i'm working on. Its a 93 4x4 with 386 000 km on it. i'll put up a video when it's done.
