I-1033 shifts taxes from rich property owners onto lower and middle income taxpayers. Last year 54% of state revenue for the general fund came from sales taxes, 18% from the B&O taxes on business and only 12% from property taxes.
I-1033 only gives tax rebates to those that own property. So renters who make up 35% of households in the state and small business owners who rent get no rebate but see their tax dollars pay taxes for corporations and million dollar homes and shopping malls. Vote No
I lived in Colorado during the 1990's. No thanks. One of the best school districts, Academy District 20 went to pot due to TABOR. The property tax cut is really only good for the upper schmuckety-schmucks. Guess who funded I-1033 ... yes - just a few super rich guys. Who does it benefit? Follow the money.
Please note that "nonpartisan" does not mean "without a stance."

The League is not affiliated with a political party and doesn't endorse candidates. However, the League does research public policy and take positions on ballot issues and make endorsements on issues. They have studied the state tax system and the ramifications of I-1033, and endorsed a No on I-1033 position.
If it passes the sky is going to fall our houses will burn and the world as we know it will come to an end. Ha! These petty threats we Washingtonians have all heard before. Limiting our government is a GOOD thing especially in a recession. Our governor ms. G is on a drunken spending spree. If she cuts out all the waste then none of these things will happen. its time we demanaccountability in olympia. If they want more money they need to ask US thats what 1033 does!
Your work for the rich guys wanting property tax cuts is no longer needed. Why don't you go back to your Alex Jones program. I hear FEMA is coming to round up guys like you.
my husband is in the national guard. He has joined FEMA. maybe he will be rounding up you. BTW alex jones is a nut job. and you dont know what the hell you are talking about.
It cost $9 million for Colorado voters to suspend TABOR. Who is going to pay for us to go to the ballot and to educate the voters on each tax issue? Eyman acts as if voting is free. He should know better!
The state budget has fixed costs and variable costs. The fixed costs, such as the cost of prisons, case loads and the cost of state employees' health care, have been increasing much faster than inflation, driving most of the budget increases. I-1033 does nothing to control the state's fixed costs, such as health care. This initiative is built on a fallacy and does nothing to solve the fix we're in. It will lock us into a premanent recession.
Regardless of the other things that we are talking about, I-1033 allows for as many government budget increases as you please, just so long as the voters approve.
Also, let's be clear: I-1033 does not touch any earmarked funds, only general revenue funds.
The formula in the initiative is not at all related to the state's, cities' or counties' budgets or needs. State income is overly dependent on sales tax, so when we have the worst economy since the Great Depression, income drops off a cliff. Tim Eyman cannot take credit for the state's current loss of revenue.
Actually, the inflation plus population growth limit was a success with past Initiative 601, until the Democrat-controlled legislature and Governor Gregoire gutted it, and then subsequently ran up a huge spending increase, culminating in a huge deficit. Deficits resulting from irresponsible spending are not a valid reason to argue against responsible government growth limits as will be established by Initiative 1033. YES ON 1033.
This video is is about scare tactics, not factual information. Government will continue to grow at a sustainable rate of inflation plus population growth under 1033. AND, 1033 includes a safety valve. If the legislature wants to step outside the spending growth rate limit, they can bring a tax measure to the voters. Bottom line is, would you be able to sustain your family expenditures growing at 10% a year if your income only increases 5%? It's the same issue with government. YES ON 1033!!
Thank you for watching our video. Please know that this video is not about scare tactics. This equation (inflation plus population growth) has been well-researched and shown to be a failure. We appreciate your comments.
The League of Women Voters takes positions on issues after extensive study from a wide range of resources. Based on study, consensus is arrived among all the members of local leagues enabling the State Board to advocate on issues. It is representative only of its own members. Relative to 1033, please see the schmudget papers of the State Organization for Budget and Policy to read analyses of the impact of 1033 on counties throughout the state.

Well, since your league of extraordinary ladies excludes half the population it has to be some what partisan...
Especially when the base for the democratic party is, by the numbers, white women?

"Nonpartisan" means the LWVWA is unaffiliated with a political party. It doesn't claim that they don't have a position.

Nonpartisan? The video was onesided to prove what is obviously their belief, which makes them (non)nonpartisan.
When stating that something is a failure, be sure to state your evidence, and no Colorado's TABOR is poor evidence.
Government is usually inefficent at operating, go to the USSRto see for yourself, oh wait? They don't exist anymore...
