But since nothing else produced those effects prior to 9/11 either, why the rush to consider thermite or explosives? You might as well consider UFO's and lightning strikes while you're at it.

Fire and gravity were known to be present; a legitimate investigation will therefore focus on those causes.

Scientists first tested samples of the dust and found iron rich microsphere which were spectrographically identical to reacted thermite. Upon further investigation nanothermite chips were discovered. The progression towards hypothesis is logical and scientifically consistent.

A legitimate investigation would have immediately tested for the presence of such elements.
