I have no problem with a Coalition government actually it would be better than the Harper dictatorship, at least a Coalition is the real majority of the voters.
I have one wish that the NDP & Liberals combine parties and end this madness that is going on, but I know that's not going to happen because the Liberals & NDP are too stupid to realize they too are repeating history, just like the Reform & PC split the vote for the liberals for 12 yrs.
27% of the population is not the majority, fuck Harper is an asshole. He tried himself to form a coalition government.
Man this man is going to destroy my country, I'm truly worried what he is going to do in the 3 yrs.
Mandatory sentences for pot is not the thing to be doing when it's clear our southern neighbours are seeing the War on Drugs is destroying it's country.
I wouldn't doubt he smoked the shit in school, I wish someone would come forward from his past with that info...
what a loser..............so loser parties don't have the right to influence the government? this is not a majority rules, democracy protects the minorities and gives them voice, what a freaking asshole!!
"David and I". He is so smug and totally into his own sense of smart. There would have been a coalition under Harper if he had his way in 2004 (but only if he was the king). And as for minority government working in Canada... it doesn't under a Harper regime because he won't let it. This election is his fault. And he will continue to govern with one thing at the top of his agenda; destroy the Liberal brand so nothing stands in the way of his intentions. A tyrant in the making?! You bet!!!!!!
@Zackarius14 Your response sounds like most of the Harper supporters; uninformed and totally unaware of anything called an agenda. Get informed. And if you respond again, don't sound like a 3rd grader. Speak like an adult.
The Queen of England controls is the supreme authority of all Commom Wealth lands... why make believe that Canada has a choice in any matters relevant to the UK... after all... without provocation, Canada goes to war wherever the British people go to war... Canada always sides with British allies too (i.e. Israel) no matter how many war crimes that country commits... and Canada defends the opium fields in Afghanistan (British controlled) instead of burning them.
@GeofsFilms Just to point out, Britain went into Iraq, Canada did not. We do not follow whatever Britain does. The only two wars we've really been involved in where that is true is WW1 and WW2, and in WW1 we weren't technically our own country yet. As a result, we had to do what they say. And in WW2, it was the right thing for Canada to do. Otherwise, I'm not aware of any wars in which we "followed Britain" without a choice in the matter.
@Deadmansparty2002 I have 3 friends in the military... it's true that we didn't follow in Iraq... that is still no excuse for any other countries we have invaded with them since the year 2000.
@GeofsFilms True, but I don't think we did invade any other countries since 2000 because of any "requirement" towards other former British colonies. We did so because it felt like the right thing to do based on our own morals and ideals. Those beliefs happen to coincide with other British countries because we were created from its descendants.
@Deadmansparty2002 I am pretty sure that if you took a poll amongst Canadians, you would soon realise that attacking other countries, commending Israel's efforts to commit a slow painful genocide of the Palestinians while using excessive force and I'll add to this our debts... IS NOT based on our morals and ideals. Now if you took a poll amongst politicians, most employees of big media corporations and banks, I'm pretty sure you would get something that looks exactly like the mess we have now.
@GeofsFilms I'm not sure you could back that up if an actual poll was taken. From what I've read about polls, the large majority of Canadian voters are split down the middle as to what the path of our country should be. A large majority of opposition to the current war we are fighting stemmed from a lack of an end date, and at the moment we do have an end date that we plan to stick to. But I can no more prove that then you can prove your point of view.
@Deadmansparty2002 No I can't back it up you are right... but I could research our history and show pretty clearly that we have never been a country that attacks others. SInce WW2 we have had a peace keeping army... since the year 2001, we have drastically changed course to a colonisation army. I am pretty sure that a 50+ year long way of thinking about a peaceful armed force has not yet vanished from the minds of the majority of Canadians born since the 50's.
@GeofsFilms I think that the idea that Canadians are only interested in a peace keeping army is a common misconception among the country. Not that it hasn't been a focus of our foreign policy since WW2, but that doesn't mean that our way of thinking has changed one bit. Simply that our MANY, wide variety of priorities has changed focus out of necessity because the world's priorities has changed. You can find a lot of that in history too.
@Deadmansparty2002 What do you mean "our" priorities have changed ? Who are you referring to ? Personnaly don't know of anyone who has, do you personnaly know anyone ? I think it's just politicians and corporate interests who have changed their priorities, no the peoples.
@GeofsFilms Ours meaning Canadians in general. There are 33 million people in Canada and it's highly doubtful that all Canadians have the same priorities as you and those you know. I'm not saying that Canadians in general don't believe in peace keeping as a foreign policy, I'm only suggesting that how we go about achieving that peace is different since September 11th, 2001.
@BoredomCorner Very true the government should obey the law and there have been issues but I'm curious what your particular issue is with the government that feels they broke the law?

I in no way supported the idea of a Liberal / NDP coalition in 2008, however, Harper's notion that "losers don't get to form a coalition" is nothing more than his opinion, an opinion which is contrary to our Constitution. If Mr. Harper feels so strongly that parties that don't have the most seats don't get to form a coalition, he's welcome to try (and fail) to amend the Constitution to change that. Officially we vote for PARTIES in this country, not for who becomes Prime Minister, and the PM is
@MapleTreeOfKnowledge is nothing more or less the Member of Parliament whom a majority of Parliament give their support to, meaning if all the opposition parties decide to-morrow they support Iggy, Iggy becomes the Prime Minister, simple as that. Hell, they can decide to support a relatively unknown back bencher if they so please, and that MP would become PM, that's how the system works. Who the Prime Minister is has nothing to do with which party wins the most seats, it's all about support...
The Canadian Liberals, the infrastructural members, not the rank and file, want to get rid of Iggy. The Conservatives and Reform parties combined, to their political benefit and so can the Liberals and the NDP. Iggy and Layton want nothing to do with it because it will likely mean the end of their leadership, nonetheless. With Iggy as leader, the Liberals are going nowhere; it's just a matter of time until he is gone.
Too many Liberals in Ontario and the Maritimes would abandon a party of a merged NDP and Liberals because of the socialist aspect of the NDP, too many NDPers in the West and BC would abandon such a party because they havent been fond of the federal Liberals for decades. The PC's and the Alliance were able to merge because both were CONSERVATIVE parties, the NDP is socialist and the Liberals are centrist, it wouldnt hold. However I do agree the grits are going nowhere wth iggs.
