  • War, war never changes...

  • 6 people have got the guts ;)

  • "I just want to escape with my family so that we can live in peace and not turn into horrible mutated freaks."

    "TRAITROUS COWARD!"

    Man, PSAs back then. X-(

  • Did he say minute and a half or a month and a half

  • Oh ya, screw you and your will to not glow in the dark....get in there and take that radiation like a man you commie bastard!

  • Stay around to fight fires? F**k that -- the Chernobyl' events show you're just sacrificing yourself if you pitch in like that. And the narrator mentioned the "harmlessness" of an **air burst**; however there would be a mix of ground bursts that would retain and spread radiation across a city, killing everything in **at least** a rapidly widening, debris-laden dust cloud drifting in the direction of the prevailing wind. The thuggish main character's closing line about "guts" is pure machismo.

  • This film was produced when the USSR had only a rudimentary atomic attack capability, relying on A-bombs delivered via a bare handful of long-range bombers (dumbed-down copies of our own B-29). They didn't get the H-bomb until 1953, and the MRBMs and ICBMs to deliver it until several years after that. Pretty soon after this film was released, its message of staying in the cities -- at least ones on the East Coast -- became obsolete; cities would be vaporized, but the Gov't couldn't admit it.

  • @50zcarsman Even back when the film was produced this was nothing but disingenuous propaganda more based on government needs than public safety. Even if the cities weren't vaporized the fallout from early inefficient A-bombs would have been pretty deadly for weeks, not "over within a minute and a half". For that matter when the narrator talks about cities evacuated during WW2 he doesn't bring up the cities that WEREN'T evacuated and became slaughterhouses like Stalingrad or Berlin.

  • They were right about why they bomb the city. They bomb the citys because it causes fear and panic. If anything it helps the enemy because its one less city they have to defend, you wasted one of YOUR warheads and 3 if you decide to carry on with a invasion you have to go around that city.
