USA should really just screw off. why were they training georgia in the first place and why did they set up lots of bases beside georgia? i'm almost positive that theres going to be more action in georgia since there are USA military bases in there and russia does not feel safe. that's why putin said it was legitimate. respect his theory, what if russia set up bases in canada? wouldnt you americans feel a bit of tension?!?! this is just a warning from russia. russia made the right move.

Why would Georgia even contemplate sending troops into S. Ossetia unless they had the backing of the US? The Russian troops have been in S. Ossetia for almost 10 years now functioning as peacekeepers. For Georgia to start this war is beyond stupid. But somebody in Washington gave them the "go" signal so there is a tactical reason behind the actions of Georgia. Unfortunately, it might not work out as they had planned.

though i do not agree with nato,s actions i will point out that kosovo and s. ossetia are not the same. kosovo is traditional serbian land. at the same time, abkhazia and ossetia have also been georgian for centuries. personally i think the georgians screwed up their public relations with them, and are now paying a price...but if i were ossetian i would rather stay in a loose confederation with georgia than join russia

as you still can't put into your head, 'US trained' is a grose overstatement. the US has only been involved in modernising the georgian army for the past year or so, ultimately they still have the same soviet structure. second..its not like the speznaz and chechens destroyed the WHOLE georgian army...the georian army is the smallest in the CIS> and finally anyone would have predicted that the 58th army would be used sakaashvili was just stupid not to assume they would.destroying a tiny state...

??...i don't see how you can't understand this: even if the georgian army was the best equiped, and had a crackload of startegic nukes, they are still about 30 000, while russia has a million and a half soldiers. that's not even a contest. now consider that georgia is the smallest and most poorly equipped army in the caucasus..so wow..they doubled their military spending..from virtually nothing..to not that much more..amazing, they had a couple israeli spyplane..how much of an advantage is that?

well great. if we want to talk about attrocities: within 48 hours of the fighting, russian broadcasters reported 2000 civilian deaths in s.ossetia. now it turns out that there are no more than 600 confirmed casualties. on the other hand, there have been more georgian civilians murdered in the counter attack in s. ossetia and n.georgia. and yes, the fact that it took only about 22 hours for russian tanks to poor in makes me think that they somewhat expected this..or planned this..which is not new
