  • This variety of dragonfly is my namesake: a Blue Dasher, and yes it's a female.

  • @bluedasher74 Thank you, you can get great information off youtube.

  • Er... it's actually a female. Not a male. Not sure of the species, though.

  • The dragonfly has similar movement to Tim Burtion clay figurines from nightmare before christmas. Does this make sense to anybody else? ha

  • Amazing you got such close close ups! What lens did you need for such as effect?

  • @camcorderguides Mainly a canon EF 100 2.8 and 70-200 2.8

  • Wait what? Did i miss something? Since when is there a war between Canon and Nikon users? :S

  • This is amazing....

  • Where all that dislikes from? I think it's conspiracy 8)

  • @Client1983 Nick-on (nikon) users.

  • I don't think it's fake, where are the D batteries to make it fly..

  • @eNoxyy He's just kidding, it's real.

  • Fantastic dragonfly video. *****

  • This is amazing!!!! :D

  • @eNoxyy its a real fake lol

  • @eNoxyy FAKE, its a remote controlled dragonfly.

  • I subscribe definate :)

  • @MrZikuta Where? or ¿dónde?

  • Thats cool and yet kinda gross XP

  • Hi,

were you using the 100mm on its own or did you have any extension tubes with the lens?

    THanks

  • @ziggy255 100 2.8 macro on its own. Check out my other dragonfly video for more with the 100 2.8. also check out my Monarchs eat video, several of those shots were with 100 2.8

  • Frame rate and shutter speed?

  • @bruvvamoff The raw video was shot at 1080 30fps, I have another dragonfly video that was shot at 720 60fps.

Shutter speed was high, 1000 or so, it varied per shot. I was shooting at a low f-stop to show off depth of field, usually 2.8.

  • @bruvvamoff This is a video... are you kidding?

  • Amazing, seriously amazing.

  • Did you use a macro lens and a telephoto for some shots? Love to know what lenses you used! Great video!

  • @HunterMolnarFilms Canon ef 100 2.8 macro and canon ef 70-200 2.8L.

  • Up close those things are astounding. Huge eyes, two sets of wings. Amazing creation.

    Great footage. Thanks.

  • @AshtonPhoto If you like that video check out my second dragonfly examination. Thanks for watching. youtube.com/watch?v=CGd9t50AOp0&feature=fvwrel

  • just beautiful

    spectacular !

  • The dragonfly was posing and saying "you taken it yet? I wanna fly away now and watch X-Factor"

  • 4 Dislikes by jealous Nikon users....

  • @BlackRainClothing ROFL xD

  • @BlackRainClothing oh, cmon thats so stupid..

i have a nikon but i liked the video.

    this nikon-canon thing is stupid.

  • @MegaMorice1 Yes, funny thing is when the first video shooting dslrs came out all the canon folks were using nikon lenses for the manual iris. Hatfield and McCoys, nikon and canon who shot first?

  • can you take a photo while recording a video?

  • @QwAdr0x256 Yes I believe so, yet I've never tried it.

  • @Getawaymoments it works out very well!

  • @QwAdr0x256 yes...you press the photo button as video is rolling! I'm getting this camera soon so i've been doing research!

  • @QwAdr0x256

yah u can but it will cut the chunk off. meaning that what ever time it takes to take the still it will not be in the vid...

  • @QwAdr0x256 Yes you just get a gap in the video

  • @QwAdr0x256 Yes, with the 7D you can.

  • @QwAdr0x256 yes

  • @QwAdr0x256 yes.

  • @QwAdr0x256 Yep, you simply press the shutter button :)

  • @QwAdr0x256 YEs you can :)

  • How many fps did you shoot this at?

  • @steelhead3686 I think 60fps, my other dragonfly video was 720 60fps for sure.

  • this is delicious!!!

  • are you using apo converter with th 70-200mm

  • @XjamBonBiLLX No.

  • wow macro is amazing

  • I need one of those macro lens.

  • nice work. what lense did you use?

  • @TJZebra canon EF 100 2.8 macro

  • @Getawaymoments That lense comes with the camera? Or did you buy that lense w/o the camera?

  • @AndrewCWillis lens sold separately

  • great video planing on getting a 7d myself

  • too... awesome... :_)

  • it is smiling

  • Neat... love how you focused on the subject. Manual mode? I own a 7d, but having a hard time focusing on the subject.

  • @digitalimage722 yes to manual, but you can use your auto focus to set up the shot it just does not work well while shooting like a handycam might. if you like this video i have a new dragonfly video that shows very shallow depth of field.

If you want to see me struggle with focus watch my bees and broccoli video.

    thanks for watching!

  • OMG !!!

    AMAZING QUALITY !!

  • @Xavo333 if you liked this one check out my new dragonfly video thanks for the comment!

  • Please pause this video at 44 seconds and tell me what you see...LOL!!!

  • @ibleednitro a ghost? waldo? o.k. i'm stumped

  • wow soo cool!

  • was someone else taking photos when you were recording this? i sware i heard a camera shutter at 0:42

  • @laughingstock96 good ear, that was my wife shooting stills

  • wow, every 7d test clip I've seen is really soft? Are they hard to focus while filming?

  • @uklebot i think many times what you are seeing is a compression issue ...ie soft.

when i watched these dragonfly shots on my 47 inch HD tv i was amazed. very sharp.

that said, i don't use an eye piece for video so it is very hard to focus using an lcd display especially on a sunny day.

  • @Getawaymoments good to know--I didn't think about the compression. I was concerned b/c I ordered a 7d.

  • @uklebot when you get one of these cameras you will find that the hardest part is managing the media ..... if you have an old computer or old software you will stuggle

if you want to be amazed .... plug it into an HDTV, have fun ... send me a link when you post your first video

  • haha while watching the focus pull from his head to his rear i thought "oh shiz fucking nit"

  • you said "pull"

    nice

    thanks for the comment

  • cool stuff :)

  • Fantastic pics! The dragonfly looks like a Darter of some kind, but we dont have that species in England!

  • Wow! that's great close up view. I love canon 7d.

  • damnnnnnnnn,

    that camera is too good

  • was this sped up at all? it almost looks like it's fast forwarding hahaha but it might just be the wind

amazing video btw 7D is crazy

  • this video was not sped up at all

and yes the 7D is crazy .... and fun

and i'm still tring to figure it all out.

i shot this stuff on my second day with the camera ......

editing with these files is a re-education after using mini-dv for my silly little nature films .....

  • what is the best lense that works with 7d, shoots best quality DOF?

  • any canon prime EF "L" series lenses, if cost is not a concern. Many shooters are using older nikon lenses with an adaptor again choosing prime lenses with low f-stop. (some of the old nikons have a manual iris ring the new canon EF lenses do not.) the key is to use the lowest f-stop if you want to crunch your depth of field to say a 1.2 1.4 1.8 or in the case of this video 2.8

  • Its also important to think about your distance. For example you will get more blur on the background if you focus at 40CM with a 50mm lens at f5.6, rather than with the same lens and the same f stop but focus at something that is 2 meters away.
