  • One question: When are the Rutles Remasters coming out? ;)

  • I saw this sitting in the offices of WEA music in Brisbane in 1978 ... it slipped into distant memory until today....wow

  • Evidently John loved this movie so much that when Eric Idle ran it by him and let him watch he refused to give it back and watched it several times in succession.

  • Why can't the PreFab Four unite again now that Oasis have split up. There is a gap in the market.

  • My favorite Rutles single has always been "Hurt Back", with the flip side "I Warned You (She's Quite Heavy)".

  • Maybe someday they'll do another "mockumentary and give The Stones the treatment. The group could be "The Gathering Moss". With such "hits" as: "Let's Shag Your Wife Together" "As Beers Go Bye Bye" "(I Can't Vet No) Sadist Faction" "Deep Knee Squat Flash" "Wild Divorces" "Under My Bum" "Can't You See Me Buzzing?" "Let It Scab" "Time Ain't On My Side" "Sympathy For the Lawyer" and my personal favorite- "You Can't Always Get Rid of What You Don't Want" (It's not "Hippy Rock", it's "Herpie Rock"!
  • Cool!

  • Like in Python, Eric loved to do parodies of on-the-spot reporters! I too wondered how the reporter kept pace with the camera mount on the moving vehicles covering them. It was both funny and a little sad when the reporter got run over in the end.

  • Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's funny. I thought that the earlier comments indicated that people reading and responding to them have already seen "All You Need Is Cash!" My apologies to the two or three people in the world who have never heard of The Rutles for ruining The Surprise Ending of This Hilarious Film!

  • The funniest movie ever. And the beginning is packed with so many great lines, I actually fell of my chair laughing.

  • This was never shown in Australia. Channel Seven had it in the can for years but to this day it has never appeared on free to air.

  • Perhaps it was never broadcast in Australia due to the unspeakable tragedy of Leggy.

    (still shocked and stunned...)

  • My dad told me about this and said I had to see it. It's hilarious! Tragical History Tour, lol

  • LMFAO.

    <3

  • i wonder if lennon heard the rutles version of julia and how he felt

  • If you're talking about "Let's Be Natural"-There's some of Dear Prudence in there. Also, some "Mother Nature's Son, as well.

These are all great songs in their own right.

  • Oh god, my two favourite things combined, Monty Python and The Beatles. Why didn't I look up The Rutles sooner?!

  • I know! I didn't know about the Rutles til like 4 years ago--where was I??

  • I only found out about them a few months ago! Which is weird, because I've been a Python fan for years and years, and even heard an interview Eric Idle about the Rutles... but never bothered to find it! Thankfully I've bought the DVD now, so it's all good. :D

  • It was a tv movie in America. Came & went. If you happened to catch it you remembered it.

  • Hello Mrs Essence, This is Mrs. Entity. Where is the rest of of the story of the 3 fab four? Crumbs!!

  • Where's Part 2?

  • haha I love it when Eric is running to try and keep up with the camera!

  • I haven't been able to take any Beatles documentary seriously since first seeing the Rutles back in the early 1970's.

    Leggy Mountbatten for Prime Minister!!

  • The music of The Rutles appealed to tea-drinking fans all over the world.

Dirk, Nasty, Stig and Barry proved that you can be successful in a music career if you have a successful music career.

    They are inspiring.

  • L.M .F.A.O.

This is what my life is missing xD

  • second that, man. I've gone weeks without even one zany thing happening.

  • Is that Bianca Jagger at 3:23?

  • can't believe i haven't see this film, it looks quality!!

  • the rutles = LEGENDS. i laugh my ass off everytime i watch this shit hahaha

  • My family were laughing so hard when they wathced this!

  • What a great parody. Right up there with "Spinal Tap". I like to play a Rutles song for the uninformed and listen to them say, "That song sounds so familiar, but I can't remember the name". They think it's the Beatles but they can't figure out what they're listening to.

  • ...created a legend to last a lunchtime.

The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash, and This Is Spinal Tap make the very best 1,2 rock parody lineup ever as far as I am concerned.

  • Best parody movie ever! Much Much better than the stupid Epic movies that are out now

  • lol great video! Thanks for sharing!

  • Get up and go back home!!!! NIIIIIIICE

  • Lol A hard days Rut

    ps was that mick jagger?

  • You mean you can't tell by the lips?

  • haha

  • Favorite parody movie ever. Some of the songs I cant tell the difference as I will sing the rutles words when I hear the beatles on the radio.

  • Greatest mockumentary ever. In my opinion even better than This Is Spinal Tap.

"Their first album was made in 20 minutes, the second took even longer."

I love that he had to run after the cameraman.

Eric Idle, can he do no wrong?

  • Love this film! now only £3.99 from zavvi! lol! well worth it!

  • lol ringo schwartz

  • Tragical History Tour '68!!! I've been on a few of those!

  • He had a lot of get up go

    get up and go

  • lmfao xD fucking love this movie

  • The songs are absolutely spot on!!!

  • You can tell a person's personality by his favorite Rutle. Mine is Barrington Womble (aka Barry Wom)

  • I can't decide if I like Stig, or Nasty better!?!

  • theres a great Beatles tribute band around here called The Caverners.. that sound just about dead on.. but in the Let It Be era their John Lennon looks as much like Ron Nasty as he does John Lennon *lol*

  • I remember as a kid when a Guppy (the plane Rutles jump out of) flew over our school on its way to Ringway Airport. We went fucking mental! 1968.

    ;-)

  • "Their first album was made in 20 minutes. Their second took even longer." LOL

  • LMAO i love them!

  • I laughed so hard when the intro guy was trying to keep up with the camera.

  • i love the shots with their wives

    so classic

  • The rutles songs are actually good. That's why the parody is so much fun.

  • i cant believe it. the beatles actually copied the rutles

  • hahahahahahaahaha

the rutles are makin fun of the beatles man

  • "let's be natural, oh yeah"

  • The Rutles - best band ever, they re-invented rock and roll and changed the world! Some tribute band called "The Beatles" stole their best material.

  • Ya se que a los puritanos de los beatles no les gusta mucho...pero la verdad es mas fregon y mas profundo que A Hard Day's night Los Rutles son la ley larga vida a los Rutles°!!

  • I prefer this film to A Hard Day's night...no only joking...but The Rutles is fantastic !!! Such acting !!! Thank you Rutles !

  • If it weren't for the Rutles, there would not have been the Beatles or the Rolling Stones or anyone else. HA HA HA HA HA...LONG LIVE THE RUTLES ^-^

  • Tragical history tour..LOL:-D

  • its called "i am the walrus" its by the beatles

  • no its piggy in the middle by the rutles.. i am the walrus is the song its paradying

  • whos the artist that sings that song at 2.40 is it the actaul rutles or not? please help really like that song

  • yes! the rutles in a parody of "i am the walrus"

  • Yes, it's the Rutles. It's "Cheese and Onions", on the Rutles album.

  • Actually it's called "Piggy in the Middle". "Cheese and Onions" is a different song. Both are great.

  • Neil Innes was a friend of John's from his Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band days in the 60's. He sent John a videocassette copy before the broadcast and John refused to give it back - he loved it! His favorite part was Nasty and the German girl in the shower "for peace".

  • 3:32--is that Paul Simon?!

  • yes - many cameos in the film

  • They made the 60's what they are today.

  • Last a lunchtime. Bahahaha. :D

  • There first album was made 20mins the second took even longer .i know this film of by heart.like the back of my hand and i know that well too.Linda mccartney was flatterd when mick jaggers wife played her in this.

  • that will last a lunch time, haha

  • "Their first album was made in 20 minutes. The second took even longer." Ha ha!

  • if john was alive when this was made he would love it maybe even have a cameo i'm sure this was made a few years later

let me know what year this would be cool

    thanks

  • okay i was wrong 1978

this would really be cool to find out how john felt about it

anyone has the story please let me know

  • okay found out john loved it, and ringo did too but the sadder parts for ringo was too close, but he loved it

they said that get up and go was so close to get back, they were worried they would be sued by paul, but he didnot sue there was no comment for him, but yes yes john loved it

  • thank you wikipedia! ;)

  • "Tragic History Tour" - genius.

  • the best part is eric idle running to get in the camera's view XD

  • Here's something important: Neil Innes not only plays John Lennon - he wrote the lyrics and all the music - an amazing blend and a parody of lots of Beatles songs

  • esta pelicula esta bien chistosa! me encanta eric idle.

  • Amazing! I like this parody, great music and comedy! Cheers from Mexico!

  • Great!!!

  • do they actually know how to play guitar? and drums?

  • If you look Eric Idle (Dirk McQuickly) is only tapping his guitar. Neil Innes (Ron Nasty) played his instrument and, I beleive, wrote the lyrics. Riki Faatar (Stig O'Hara) was a proper musician. I dont know whether or no John Halsey (Barry Wom) could play or not.

  • is that the same Rikki Faatar who played guitar for the Beach Boys in the early 70's?

  • Yeah, that's the same Rikki Faatar.

  • "tragical history tour" LOL

  • I was about to write the same thing!

  • HAHA you gotta love Eric! lol

    My favorite movie!

  • This is another brilliant movie..!

  • Stumbled upon this clip, man I have to dig out my copy and watch it again... BRILLIANT mockumentary/satire/homage...

  • Their names were Dirk McQuigley, Stig O'Hara, Nasty (?), and Barry Wom. Apologies for any mis-spellings.

  • sorry for the typo. my other favourite rutles song is 'love life'. love is the meaning of life, life is the meaning of love. what the fuck were their names though?

  • Will there ever be a reunion? My favourite rutles songs are 'get and go' and 'ouch'. Ouch kicks ass :P

  • There was. It was poor.

  • Bring back Rutland Weekend Television!!!

  • "They created a musical legend that will last a lunchtime." FUNNY STUFF!

  • It's a Mockumentary, idiot.

  • i love this movie

"In December 1970 Dirk sued Stig and Nasty, Barry sued Dirk, Nasty sued Stig and Barry, and Stig sued himself accidentally. It was the end of a golden era, and the beginning of another one for lawyers everywhere."

    hehehe

  • Rutles..funny stuff!

How about a Reunion? The fab rut 4 must get back together

  • I don't know why, But I always crack up when I see that scene with Eric Idle runing with the microphone in his hand! Funny Stuff!

  • I hear Eric didn't sing in this. Why?! Why didn't he sing? I love him singing :(

  • it has been the rultes (who the hell are the beatles??)!!! RUTLES forever!

  • We should be asking Archimedes anyway, far flung from timeliness, also. it iwas able enough to cach this backwards do you thing i would be able to typre the ruddtles are area aaforwarded, and out of breath

  • in the future, the fountain of the hair of the dog rude street dirk nasty stig and barry. anyway, disco rules , the legend even and arguallably Archimedes, lets geaux ffs it's youtube.

  • beatles music is awesome, wadya mean ridiculous?

  • Beatles music childish? You clearly know not what you speak and need to be educated in the high priesthood of rock! Stop listening to the backstreet boys,,,,

  • Hear Hear!!!

  • Long live Eric Idle!

  • Stepped up violence? Wtf are you talking about?

  • Well this is just silly.

  • I like the Beatles, but I don't like how they stepped up the violence during Vietnam

  • Really. WTF are you talking about?!?!

  • Do you mean the carpet bombing?

  • Yes! Finally, someone else who knows the fucking truth!

  • lol funnest thing ever ! doop !

  • Please sign the online petition to keep Mark David Chapman in prison for life. See my channel for the link. It takes less than 1 minute.

  • one word pissssssssssssssssssss offffffffffff !

  • Oh come on, he's still got two others to kill yet.

  • SO you saying you want him to kill Ringo and Paul? How bout you go and tell **** that.

(i will not say the killers name)

  • 'their first album was made in 20 minutes

    the 2nd, took even longer'

luv that! it's on a commercial for this radio station i listen to

  • ahaha i like "Yoko" wearing the swastika

  • Long live The Rutles!

    (Thanks for the smiles.)

  • Bless you, Mrs. Essence! Haven't seen this gem in AGES!

  • Eric Idle is my idol!

  • one of the best mockumentaries ever...this and Spinal Tap

  • Just amazing... I'm a bigger fan of this guys... soberb!!!!!!

  • The Rutles is so funny

  • WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!!

  • They actually took turns loving it, and then despising it.

  • Paul wasn't offended at all. All four of them loved it.

  • 'yesmapradio' you are fucking stupid. you can't even spell the rutles

  • the rules is shit

one of the worst movies of all tme

  • I had to wash dishes at Win Schulers in Rochester, Michigan the night it aired in 1978; it still bothers me....

  • eikai näit oo oikeesti mitä helkkaria

  • I was just watching the Rutles again earlier tonight, and laughed just as much as always. It's so damn hilarious. Eric Idle is a genius. Neil Innes too. I really love all the cameos in the film too - especially George Harrision interviewing Michael Palin outside the Rutle-corp offices. :)

  • I love the interviewer. He's funny!

  • I loved the rutles...funny movies. the rutles 2 was funny also.

  • that is the real patty boyd?

  • Lol

  • This was great. In this clip (in the Hard Day's Night-type scene), they even have a guy that looks just like Richard Lester opening the car for them. I know George had a cameo appearance in this. Ringo commented that he liked it. Never heard or read any response from John or Paul.

  • From what I can remember reading, I think John and Yoko liked it but Paul was offended by it, lol. At the time anyway. No idea what he thinks of it these days!

  • Thanks for the reply. I wonder why Paul was offended? I thought perhaps John might have been a little irked with some of the humor regarding Yoko. I guess not.

  • "creating music that will last a lunchtime."

    TFF.

  • LOL!

  • <3 to Eric, funniest man alive

  • Nice one

  • hahahaha

  • No comments about Eric Idle...

  • i thought it was funny that they made the character to represent yoko ono, hitler's daughter.

  • great stuff

  • This is funny(especially when the dude is running to keep up). Do they have the whole movie on here?

  • neil innes looks exactly like paul simon

  • LOL jagger!

  • It's the little subtleties that get me on this. Can you honestly imagine John Lennon saying "Je ne sais quois" with a straight face? Or a Fab Four song with lyrics like "I'm not throwing caution to the wind" or "shoot me down in flames if I should tell a lie?"

Do they ever tell us where "Leppo" (the former Fifth Rutle) is today??

  • The second took even longer.

  • Kudos to Eric Idle for putting this together. It started out as a film sketch on SNL but it was such a hit that Lorne Michaels asked him to put together a whole special. Today you can get all the details on the Anthology but in 1977 Idle had to dig them out of the archives, and on a dealine and limited budget.

  • Havent seen this since the original broadcast~ a long lost classic!

  • i love the rutles! Im glad they have made apperences now on you tube, great film great idea and how alike are neil inns and john lennon its scary! Great post

  • haha nice hair.

  • Wonderful parody of a WONDERFUL band!

  • That was funny

  • Hey, all you need is rut. Rut is all you need. This movie can really mess your head up for Beatles songs. I wish I knew more Beatle trivia to get all the inside jokes/songs. I read the Beatles liked this parody. I do too. Go figure.

  • Yeah, you have to know quite a bit about the boys and their story to get some of the jokes. I've loved the boys my whole life so I find it hilarious! I recommend it to any fan.
