nice job and i completely agree with your comments....surely 'note for..(yawn) note' copyists are mostly pre pubescent beginners who have more time than talent. lol discuss!
Thanks. How many guitarists does it take to screw in a light bulb? One to do it and several others to say they could have done it better. :) I have a lot more fun goofing around with songs and solos than trying to flat out recreate them, unless it's a song I learned years ago when I had time to mess with that. Now I try to get in the same neighborhood and just have fun.
Thanks for the kind words. Just goofing around with a backing track, no need to get your panties in your craw. Regarding the tone, that was a J-station I paid $90 for. Fortunately I have other amps (Bogner, Trainwreck and Dumble clones, among others) and they sound great. I did an RG550 video that has more 'steve vai shit' that you might enjoy. I eagerly await your community-spirited comments on it. I can tell from your writing style that you're a man of class, taste and distinction.
EJ strat into a J-station. Can get the J-station for under $100 used, sounds as good as the Line6 stuff and great for goofing around and posting youtube vids.
Hi there, I have a question, how can I get tones of other guitarist, like they settings on a J-Station. Like if I want a Metallica tone on my Jstation, how can I get the settings. Thanks
Nice playing and sounds good, remeber which preset you used on the j-station? I'm like you, lots a nice gear, but you can't beat that jstation direct to the pc for some fun.
I just dialed it around until I liked what I had... usually use a little delay tap tempo'd, enough chorus to spread the sound out, and the Jstation Solo amp. Thanks!
Pretty good; best of all when you finish the regular solo and start riding the jazz beast at the end... why not post an entire solo for "Peg" as it comes to you?
Good one, I was thinking of posting this entire song myself. Check me out, I love that SD stuff and have posted several songs. I agree with some of the other comments that you are not accurate, but still I like your tone and feel. You are very talented. 5 stars for your effort.
dude if you're trying to transcribe the actual solo, you're a bit off. why would you post a half ass try? you need to invert those chords and get the sheet music or something. cool tone, but that's not even accurate.
I wasn't trying to do a Berklee level transcription, that was a first take on a (at the time) new guitar and a $99 J-Station. I have nicer amps, but I play stuff like this for fun. Thanks for listening. FYI, I wasn't trying to cop the tone either, just dialled in a sound I liked. On the backing track the snare has about .001% too much reverb and was probably recorded digitally to begin with, instead of analog tape like the original.
hey wes-If Graydon himself had done this AFTER chinese food, or on a different day, or watched Carlton's take first, or forgot to change his strings, this would have been a different solo.
Even if he did another one right after, it would have been different. Surely you must know that this stuff isn't etched on stone.
Too right Mugsy. Great work okstrat, nice chunky/meaty tone and solo/chord shapes coming into the solo. You're a really great player, keep up the good work.
Tasty -- VERY tasty! I dig your phrasing, bends, and interpretation (and this comes from a guy who is spoiled rotten from playing with some very good guitarists). Refreshing to hear a real player among all the wannabe's on Youtube!
thats cool. You captured the essence of what a studio musician is facing when he has to perform a solo.

Hey there, just curious. I guess you are using the S/PDIF digital output on the J-station to record?

Nope, analog to a craptacular stock PC soundcard.
