  • Brilliant.

  • What a voice.....

  • im so impressed....

  • Marilyn truly iS an amazing vocalist. But it is disappointing that through all of the comments only one mentions the incredibly gifted songwriter, Randy Mc Neill. Johnny Mathis also chose and recorded Mr. Mc Neill's Classic for his "Me and Mrs. Jones" Album. Worth checking the Mathis version out.

  • She sings with such passion. Sends chills down my spine.

  • Je t'aimais quand j'etais un petit garcon...et je t'aime encore, Marilyn. Ta voix, ton beaute'...you had God's gifts and, fortunately, used them to benefit mankind.

  • She has such a beautiful person that when sing her voice floats towards you.

  • She will perform* L I V E * here in Manila,Philippines together with Billy Davis Jr. on

    July 2011..God bless Marilyn..SEE YOU SOON ***

  • one of the best voices, ever, singing a heartbreaking torch song

    thanks

  • stunning simply moving and brilliant, she totally owned and moved me with that song she is a consummate performer

  • really love this song, love her voice, thanks.

  • Such an amazing song. And of course Marilyn vocals are stunning. Thank you for posting.

  • I love everything 5th Dimension did (esp Marilyn) but this one.. it makes me cry. It is so beautiful crafted and sung. Love it.

  • yomama: did leentje decide to stay? C'mon, we all need some good news. that's why some of us keep coming back to this song and video

  • God - what a voice!! What a song-I'd forgotten how beautiful.

  • oddly enough, after my wife tossed me out of the house after 25 years of marriage, this song was playing on an ipod in the middle of the night when I stayed up with my daughter. and she knew I was leaving when it got light and started crying. It's been almost two years and I torture my brooding soul by playing this every day.

  • @jeff65623 Life will go on...its a new beginning. Don't romanticize a bad marriage. Good Luck .

  • Wonderful, pure voice. A pleasure not to have to listen to another Auto-Tune talentless hack like (for instance) Shakira.

  • no other singer in the world could sing a heart-breaking love song like Marilyn McCoo, complete with the emotion on her face and the movement of her hands and arms. and that little pout of hers when her heart is breaking in the middle of her song is absolutely devastating.

and to read she has been married for 41 years to the one and only, and same man, is gratifying. what a classy lady!

  • I love this song and what a voice......I sing and I sing this particular song. I have always wished it would be available in karaoke or accompaniment only to sing along with the music. It is a true love song and a testament to a beautiful voice.

  • She is another who was given a gift to be the best!

  • Wow!!!! This song is a true classic!!!!! and always brings me to tears. This song should never be sung/ touched by another artist other than Marilyn McCoo.

Thank you GOD for creating such a beautiful woman with such a beautiful voice ..

The older I get this song really strikes a nerve that there really is a big difference between sex and making love.

    thx for the post.

    tearfully Anthony Figgiani

Thank you GOD for creating such a beautiful woman with such a beautiful voice ..

The older I get this song really strikes a nerve that there really is a big difference between sex and making love.

and really begs the question does TRUE LOVE REALLY EXIST?

    thx for the post.

  • @afiggiani1558 So good to know that some men have the same emotions and feelings that so many women do. It's not always just "love em and leave em". Thanks for posting.

  • What a voice! I miss these types of songs.

  • Every time I hear this song I get the chills. She sings this beautifully.

  • the main difference between the singers before and now is emotion. the singers before have intense emotions when they sing.

  • ...incredible voice...but don't forget the song writer that penned those haunting words! Actually written by a male....Randy McNeill from "small town" Marshall, Texas. IICRY is just one of his typically (deep) emotional songs that touch us still, 40 years later.

  • Slow songs in the 70's were filled with a kind of emotion that current day slow songs just don't have.

  • So beautiful, like Marilyn herself ~

  • Marilyn McCoo is one of the few singers who sounds as good as she looks.

  • What a stunningly, beautiful woman with a stunningly, beautiful voice. Thanks so much for posting.

  • this LADY owns this song ! hands down .

  • @doubleagent14 RIGHT!

  • Back when I thought I was in love, 38 years ago, this song spoke my feelings. I still melt when I hear it.

  • thank you once again for a rare gem of a performance! this song has always been one of my favorite 5D tunes with marilyn on lead. wonderful piano both here and on the Individually & Collectively LP. the build up leading to the solemnly delivered final lyric never fails to move me to tears.

  • Engaging performance. In all honesty I prefer the hit version -- Marilyn ad libs a little too much for my tastes on this one -- but that's because I consider the original one of the most heart-rending songs of that era.

If you can't relate to the unrequited love in this song, better make a doctor's appointment and see if there's anything beating in your chest!

  • My favorite Fifth Dimension song, I luv this song but it almost makes me cry ;(

Thanks for this uploading this :-)

  • After all these years, this song still gives me chills. What a voice!!

  • a diva!

  • Powerful.......thanks for posting this....this song has always been one of my favorites..

  • What a great voice she had as well as being beautiful. (may still be for all I know)

    Thanks for posting Mccoofan

  • Every once in a while a composition and lyric comes along that is very special. Thank you Marilyn!

  • @brgilbert2 If you take this performance and what she did with the recording of One Less Bell To Answer, she gets my vote as the best female vocalist of all time...

  • @pilesoviny

I absolutey love marylin McCoo. But "One Less Bell To Answer" wasn't actually her song. Her version was a cover of another of the greatest female singers on this planet - Keely Smith. But I've never been able to find her version.

    Thank God for Marilyn's rendition,

    Rusty

  • She's amazing always!

  • Great song, and live at that.

  • INCREDIBLE voice and a CLASSY lady from the GO<

  • Love her singing. Such passion, beauty and grace. Nice to just hear a song sung without all the vocal gymnastics and lyrics that actually mean something.

  • This song, "House for Sale", and "One Less Bell To Answer"...my favorite Marilyn solos...yeah.

And notice how much control she has over her notes...you see NO strain...LOVE that. But she inflects all the emotion the song needs. Too bad this song wasn't TRULY appreciated like it should have been.

  • Beautiful song, voice and gown!

  • @MissJazzyJ Right! and yes that dress is FIERCE! It could actually still be worn today...maybe a few minor changes.

  • You are so beautiful...

  • this gal could really belt out a song, thanks for the vid

  • This song has always been a personal favorite. Bravo Marilyn!

  • Love that girl...voice still sounds like my college days....in fact well-preserved all around. She's doing something right.

  • What a wonderful heartbreaking song. Marilyn McCoo is a truly special singer and lady. What a brilliant performance.

  • very classy lady. her voice goes in my ears and quickly reaches my heart. thanks for the posting mccoofan and thanks be to God for giving us Marilyn McCoo

  • have never seen such an emotional performance ...

  • thanks 4 posting.a great singer and performance by her as well.

  • Under rated? This girl has one of the best voices ever in music, and shes a good woman...........we were blessed to here her.

  • Which is why she's underrated...Ms. McCoo just doesn't get the recognition she deserves.

  • Marilyn McCoo is an underrated singer. She has an incredible timber to her voice. It's like an instrument -- a fine woodwind instrument. Where would she fit in today's screaming banshees? What a classy lady. Thanks for posting this.

  • Her voice really touches your soul.

  • Ruedydude...

I agree..I l ike this version even better than the 1972 versoin as well. There's something about hearing it from a more mature *seasoned* Marilyn...

And watching her perform this on stage here...her body language...facial expressions...she USES us viewers to help tell the story. *She does this when she performs One Less Bell to Answer also*

SUPERB performance of a timeless theme. I wish she would come out with a new solo cd. We NEED her voice on the radio these days.

  • No one interprets a song like Marilyn does .. Besides her amazing voice w/ it's 4 octave range, she just knows how to make U feel the song, down to your soul .. that's a rare quality

  • I agree.

  • And U R right in that when Marilyn sings this song live (& others like "One Less" etc) as a more mature woman she seems to be able to touch me DEEPER & in a more complete way (if U know what I mean) .. Listen to her sing "I Dreamed a Dream" .. Although I love Susan Boyle's version, she doesn't emote the feelings from the song that Marilyn does .. U can FEEL that she lived thru what the lyrics R saying ..

  • This song was always a favorite of mine. So true...it always made me cry. No one can sign it like Marilyn McCoo. Thanks for sharing!

  • Wow....Beautiful...full of emotion...LURVE IT!

  • the song is beautiful and the lyrics are so heartbreakingly real...

  • this song is amazing. she is amazing!

  • Last night I didn't get to sleep at all up up and away I saw you in Aquarius and If I could Reach you there would be one less bell to answer. Thank you Marilyn and the other four dimensions.

  • How splendid is this. Thank you McCoo fan. Marilyn's voice is magnificent and what a beauty she is.

  • There is nothing more tragic than a love wasted, except possibly realizing it when it's too late.

    Great song Great Lady!

  • I agree N72Pilot...

this song...and also House for Sale...*sigh*

  • What magic it will take ms. v?

  • As the song goes..."to love u good enough on the outside & make u feel it on the inside, maybe I could make u stay."

To make him stay,to make him mine,is there any other way?Tell me how?Have you ever found someone who means everything to you?then you'll know what I mean.

  • ...and if I could only knew the magic it would take...IF I COULD ONLY REACH YOU,HONEY...

thanks for posting this song!Love this so much.

  • sometimes the guy is the one reaching out......

  • I remember this song. Wishing, hoping, and praying that I could "reach him". I finally DID reach him, somewhere along the line. A few years back, he realized that he lost the best thing he ever had. He calls every now and then to tell me that he ADORES me... that he loves me... that he's always loved me... and that he misses me. I simply remind him that he's about thirty years too late... and I hang up the phone.

  • Beautiful woman, awesome singer, what a package. She was and always will be one the truly best singers ever and a gorgeous lady too.

  • absolutely beautiful; the melody, the lyrics, and Marilyn's moving performance.

    BRAVO!

    Thanks for posting the video.

  • this is an amazing song

i totally love it, kinda feel identified with it.

    Marilyn rocks!

    :)

  • There's something very comforting about that voice. Elegance. McCoo personifies that.

  • Yup. Elegant without seeming snooty. Marilyn is pure class.

  • It's a shame you hardly ever hear this top 10 song anymore. It's a classic.

  • Does anyone know the chords to this song. aiat's one of our favorites!

    Thank you in adavace.

  • Marilyn McCoo, very underrated talent. Such an even and elegant voice. Even though she could if she wanted, she doesn't overwhelm you with her voice. Many of the 5th Dimensions hits featured her voice.

  • Such a beautiful voice. Thanks, Marilyn.

  • Both of us at the very top of a stormy affair but if i could reach you somewhere!!!! and somehow!!! maybe i could make you stay a onger any more longer than before!!!!!Gerry

  • This is more poignant and beautiful than the original version... "solo" suits the lady. Well done, Marilyn... and thanks for posting this, "mccoofan".

  • sorry, make that released in '72

  • actually song was more like '73

  • An exquisite vocal from an exquisite lady.

  • Leentje this is our song, and now that I have reached you i hope and pray that I can make you stay!

  • wonderful song 1976

  • Der letzte Top ten hit der 5th Dimension:

    Höchste Platzierung im Billboard:

    10 (eine Woche am 25.11.1972)

    A. Peter (Remshalden bei Stuttgart/Ger)

  • nice song......number one song during 1976

  • Nice to see so many Marilyn admirers.

I saw her in Vegas in the mid 80's, (had front row seats), and I'll never forget how incredible that concert was -- she was beyond awesome.

Check out her version of "The Way We Were" here on YT (a Solid Gold performance). It's no secret that would be a tough act to follow, but Marilyn's version is so uniquely her own in such a classy way, and yet she doesn't take away from Barbra's original.

P.S. To gregorytknudson Thanks for your quick reply.

  • When was this concert?

  • 1989 or 1990 in Atlantic City...I was there...taped for a PBS special

  • What a nice performance. Never get tired of watching this. Wonderful song, wonderful talent!

  • Does anyone know what year this was?

  • 1976

  • Wonderful song, hauntingly beautiful performance, why dosnt this song get more Views from the You Tube world?

  • How come no-one sings like that anymore???

  • Excellent question. Marilyn is as beautiful as her voice, and every performance she's ever done, is perfection.

Nowadays, we have too many 'Hilary Fluffs' (all fluff and no substance) with no talent parading all over the music charts, no one seems to notice that they CAN'T sing.

The world of music needs more 'real' talent like Marilyn McCoo.

  • This was in reply to gregorytknudson below, asking "How come no-one sings like that anymore?"

I'm sorry it didn't post in the correct spot, but I wanted to reply to your post accordingly. When typing, I entered directly underneath your post, but for some reason, YT brought my response directly to the top. :)

  • Right on Tanzanite..u said it all...shes a GOD sent..."Hey GOD...whats up"???

  • @gregorytknudson hey try some shirley bassey.... she'll blow yer' away...

  • The most underrated singer of our generation. She sounds as good as ever and sings with utmost emotion and feeling. I liked this better than the studio version.

  • Look at Marilyns eyes at 2:00 in this video. She is from another planet I believe!

  • I think u are correct...i was thinking the same thing...too...she is fantastic...out of this world!!!!!!!!!

  • She always seem to sing each song as loudly or softly as is appropriate for that moment .. Perfect phrasing & tone .. Just an amazing songstress that has never really gotten her due & that's even with the 8 grammys she has ...

  • My all time favorite Fifth Dimension song. Marilyn looks and sounds fabulous.

  • Happy Birthday Marilyn McCoo :)

  • Oh man;Love this song, love this song--Marilyn McCOO,powerful voice without saying. What I would give to meet this angel of GOD---west texascowboy.

  • Fantastic!!! What a gifted performer.

  • A friend of mine loves this song and sings it to me several times a week...simply beautiful..no other word comes close!

  • she is definitely SINGING THE SONG on this one and it's absolutely heart-felt.

The recorded version is another. Just the same, the song is one of the finest the seventies had created. Thanks for posting mccoofan!

  • Actually, the pacing on this song seems even truer to what was written and enables Marilyn to give an even more dramatic reading. Works for me.

  • This version of the song is sooo much slower than the recorded version. This one drags. It is like pulling teeth to get to the next line of the song.

    Marilyn looks beautiful.

  • My favorite song by Marilyn McCoo. Thanks for posting!

  • another wonderful song! i saw her in vegas 25 years ago and was blown away.

  • A friend told me about this song.

    Beautiful.

  • Just love this song.Marilyn is one of the most beautiful African American people God ever created...

  • I have always loved Marilyn McCoo. What an excellent singer, a gorgeous woman as well. I play her cds all the time. She is really classy, you have to love her all the way!

  • Marilyn just bathes the whole stage and auditorium with style and class! Thank you again, mccoofan! Say, who *wrote* "If I Could Reach You"? Is this one of Burt Bacharach's?

  • Randy McNeill wrote the song. Glad you like the video...!

  • Thanks, mccoo fan --- I'm on a kick of studying about "great-songwriters-who-weren't-necessarily-performers-themselves", and this is a great addition to the lore. Never heard of Randy McNeill, but I'm going to search him up now! :-)

  • 5th dimension sounds much better! gonna get it

  • That lady is just fabulous. Her voice is etched in the history of music for all time.

  • it tugs my heart every time i hear this song. simply marvelous!

  • Wow, Beautiful Woman, beautiful song! Thanks for sharing this one!

  • Beautiful!

  • Great!Thanks for uploading

  • stunning----always loved marilyn and always will

  • Can you get a video of her singing "Everythings Been Changed"?

  • great heartwarming song!!

  • Wonderful! It's one of my favorite classic songs.

  • classic elegance! brilliantly subtle yet perfect. love her!

  • I love this song and there is no other person who can sing this song with so much passion.

It just brings back sweet memories.

  • Marilyn never looked more beautiful than she does here--it isn't even possible to be classier than this...

  • Heart felt... Emotionally absorbing.... =(

  • I agree!

This has got to be one of the most heart-breaking, gut-renching songs ever (right up there with Bonnie Raittss "I Can't Make You Love Me)....intense

  • excellent singer!!! galing!!

  • Goosebumps!

  • She is the best! She is beautiful and with a great voice unlike the new singers nowadays.

  • I Remember Oh I Remember What a Voice

  • My favorite 5th Dimension song. Thanks for posting.

  • Miss you.

  • luv u marilyn..this is where class meets talent

  • One classy, talented lady!

  • Just love this song. Love seeing her. What class she has.

  • Why isn't she on Broadway? What an incredible talent!

  • Just so lovely! Thanks for posting it.

  • What a beautiful and mature rendition of the song. It just melts me.

  • Beautiful. Have never seen a live performance of this before. What control!

  • My favorite 5D song; glad to see a performance clip even if it's just Marilyn on her own. Tremendous.

  • I have been looking for this video all this time! Again, a stirring performance from Marilyn McCoo! I cannot thank you enough McCoo Fan.

  • Love this song. She looks absolutely beautiful here.Thank you!!!

  • I never understood why the 5th never performs this song in concert--I think it's absolutely beautiful. Marilyn really nails it here...

  • Classic 5th - classic Marilyn. Thanks so much.
