Given that he's running that fast, and that he's already lost some balance from his self-kick, a misstep like that seems extremely plausible. Arguably as Cuenca is a relative newcomer I'm giving him benefit of the doubt.
Cuenca didn't film, he accidently kicked his own foot. If you go to the second angle in the video you can see that after he kicks his foot, he loses his balance. Either way, it shouldn't have been a penalty.
