In my opinion, Clannad was far better than Kanon but that might be because it was alot longer [second season and all]. Clannad made me tear up alot more and I've never cried as much as I did than at the end of Fuko's story. Kanon also made me cry on Makoto's story, but Clannad was definetely alot more enjoyable. Alot more comedy and heart-felt moments.
I enjoyed both equally. I gained something from each that the other didn't offer.
(Emotional Torture from Clannad!!) Clannad incorporating the little girl showing back up at certain moments cheapened some of the anime (first season) but I understand that was and element from the game.

I just started on this Anime after finishing Kanon, I'm really enjoying it so far (@ep10 atm).
If you enjoyed Kanon, CLANNAD is for you also. And vice versa
