@MyAxolotl A interesting ending would be if it ended at 6:39 with the wide shot of them all shooting at once, and then freezing and saying THE END. So you're left to guess or decide who got the gold.
Those of you who ask why Hollywood doesn't make such good movies any more, even if a good director like late Sergio Leone wants to make a similar movie today, he won't find the right actors like C. Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and E. Wallach. These actors belonged to the golden age of Hollywood when men were perceived to be attractive by being athletic, rugged, tough, and heterosexual. Today's actors (Brad, Tom, etc) are metrosexual with skins softer than girls. They can never make good cowboys.

see, in this world there is two kinds of people my friend; those with loaded guns and those that dig...... you dig. That about says it..... U.S.A got all the guns... the rest digs.
Its strange how Clint Eastwood didnt hear angel eyes turn up on his horse?, perhaps it was that noisy crow in the tree that drowned out the noise of the horse`s feet. A great film a could watch over and over.
To understand the intensity of the scene, you've to put yourself in the shoes of any of three. You can't shoot one because, then the other one is gonna shoot you and all done !! at the same time, you can't be quick enough to shoot them all !!
Clint Eastwood had an advantage to begin with since he knew one of the guns not gonna shoot ... he he he... technically, he cheated ;-)
simply amazing! the power lines absolutely killed me though. (when blondie saves him the second time and they ride away horseback). freakin' hillarious! funniest shit i've seen in a while
the older generation who grew up on the great television westerns are always more fond of John Wayne films whilst the slightly younger is far more fond of clints spaghetti westerns which in my opions is far more gritty and realistic. Waynes films always gloried wayne himself, showing him to be that alpha male taking seconds to no-one AT ALL which also appeal to many men, while eastwoods films were more witty and chock full of great character development, especially the bad guys.
This movie in every sense of the word is a true masterpiece, the shining jewel of the dollars trilogy. Everything about it is amazing, from the scenario, to the breath taking music. Honestly call me deluded but I fail to see how anyone can hate this.

@danielecrews Yes, there is a version. But as I explained before, for the past 45 years an abridged version has always been the only one available on soundtracks, whether on vinyl or CD. Fortunately, for all of us, the other hugely popular track "The Ecstasy Of Gold" has always been available intact, as heard in the movie. "The Sundown" is another abridged track, where an eerie version of the famous intro is always missing, (But is heard in the movie as Angel Eyes approaches the camera).
@delta927 That trumpet is the one which has always been heard only on the original soundtrack record ever since the film was released. But in the movie there's a different version. The pocket watch chimes, kettle drum, piano and percussive echoes heard here from 4.24 are replaced in the soundtrack record by an acoustic guitar passage, then the trumpet continues to the very end. But here, the trumpet stops at 6.13 and is replaced by the urgent orchestral passage not heard on the record.
@jmweed1861 Not exactly. Van Cleef is using a Remington 1858 percussion revolver which is correct for this early 1860s period. But his cartridge belt is incorrect. Wallach has a Colt Navy 1851 percussion revolver, which is also correct (This one is not the same cartridge-converted Navy he gets from the gunshop). Both their guns clearly show the cap nipples. Blondie's cartridge-converted Colt Navy 1851 never existed till about 1869, when these conversions were made by Richards-Mason and Thuer.
Interesting that they are using cartridge guns during the "Civil War" (The area of percussion handguns) Clint is using a m 1852 Navy converted to Cartridge, Van Clive an 1875 Remmington and Eli an 1860 Colt converted to cartridge. Great Movie, but historicly totallt incorrect.
One of the two great gunfight scenes directed by Sergio Leone, the other one of course being the duel between Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda in Once Upon a TIme in the West

I would watch these wild west pictures over-and-over again and even though I know in advance every min. still takes my breath away while watching them.
The pictures from the late 50s/60s/70s were the BEST and will always be. Those that came after and the to-day's one are full of "blood sweat and tears" oh an the aliens...These western pictures along with the Spaghetti Western, also known as Italo-Western are the real CLASSIC ONES... History won't repeat itself in this case.Great share, tks.
@laggie24 You are absolutely right... it's not just the acting, the scenes, the setting, everything is perfect! When I imagine wild west, I imagine Leone's wild west. It is no wonder that thinking about this and other Leone's movies, while listening to Morricone's perfect music, makes you realy sad... you must be, knowing the fact that magic of this master pieces can never be repeated...
Anyone who wanted to remake this would surely be either very stupid or very mad. Hmm... In the latter case, if he was mad enough in a right way, it might even work...
Nah. No, it couldn't. Please keep making great new modern westerns, but leave this alone.
@Feanorielle Creative geniuses like Leone, Cameron and Scott think on a certain level and it shows in their films. The problem is once the creator/director/visionary who was behind the original is out of the picture, others will try to do what they did. Sometimes it works well, as in the case of the Battlestar Galactica and V series, both of which I loved, and sometimes not so well(Terminator 3 and 4).
@zeromant80 There has been some good westerns/western inspired movies in the last few years. And of course because I love this genre and believe in its potential and timeless, universal appeal, I wish they make many new westerns. There's no need to try to remake the old stories, old just endlessly do prequels and prologs. Come up with new stories and new franchises, ye movie folks! :)
Leone really knew how to capture faces and reactions with his camera. That's the genius of this scene. Morricone gives it such brilliant power. Influential beyond reckoning.

i been to the place in spain where it was filmed was fishing out there for carp and catfish one day it was to hot and we need to score some dope from near there (burgos) so we were showed where the river was and the graveyard as well as that place where the kid is on the horse water wheel thing
LOL Hey RyoSaba90 that was damned perfect!!!!! Count me in with the loaded gun, amigo! Wait a minute let me throw back my serape back from my gun hand..........
TU scavi!!""
I hope they "reboot" this soon,it realy needs to be remade with shit actors crap music and rubbish directing, hands off greedy fuckers you aint gonna improve perfection
who ever put this movie together and the music ,,well all i can say there worth there weight in gold ,, the ending still gets me on the edge of my seat ,, and aff watched this film hunfreds of times ,, fantasic ,,fact
A reaction/respond is way quicker than a mission from brain too musscle, think about something falling.. you caugh is before you even tought about it.
There for a stand-off's are very reallistic even today, the one who pulls the gun first is likely to get shot first with same chances. reaction and responses are faster than the mind
ive never really liked all the western cowboy moves because there always so biased. The Cowboys always win you never see the native Americans win, and all the actors who mostly played in cowboy moves tend to be conservatives. Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Gene Hackman, Kirt Douglas, Kurt Russell so on.
A Mexican standoff that lasts five full minutes. Nowadays movies just dont have that kind of patience, everything has to be quick and filled with action.
All three of these guys are serious bad-asses in this movie. It's a shame Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef wound up being underrated character actors after TGTBTU.
There is no comparison. The finest filmaking, in earnesty, in badass-edness, in straight up genious. Plus the soundtrack could win a goddamned war. With sticks and fervour.

I would rather watch this one scene over and over again for 3 hours, instead of watching the whole of Avatar.

I laugh when people make Chuck Norris jokes... the truth is, Chuck Norris has NOTHING on Clint Eastwood, the biggest bad ass known to man.

A reaction/respond is way quicker than a mission from brain too musscle, think about something falling.. you caugh is before you even tought about it.
There for a stand-off's are very reallistic even today, the one who pulls the gun first is likely to get shot first with same chances. reaction and responses are faster than the mind
Very interesting

ive never really liked all the western cowboy moves because there always so biased.
