the music has always been source of laughter, "hey Babe, que paso?" and good times, memories, and i miss these guys. they did their music very well. enjoyed life and left a legacy of love. thats more than any jerk politician can say!
@jivo1100 Ahmen to that! I would love to see future posts limited to comments on the song and the band. I think there have been more than enough responses to shijinaku.
flaco is mexican? dang i've lived in san antonio all my life, never even thought about it. makes me wonder about carlos santana. the only yanks dont like mexicans are them that aint met them.
@wcbriggs2000 Falco was born in San Antonio, but with mexican roots. Anyhow, does this matter? These guys, Doug, Augie, Freddy and Flaco are the "real fab four".
@ShijiNaku,The American that hate Mexicans are F**kin Crackera** Rednecks,I loved several Mexican girlfriends through the years,A beautiful Tejano woman gave me a beautiful daughter,Things didn't work out between me and Mi Bambino's Madre, but that's us.As far as predujice goes,Some Mexicans are guilty of this Bullshit too!
@ShinjiNaku i think you have a problem, there are more americans that like mexicans than the ones who don't like mexicans. besides, i've been married to a mexican/american for 28 years now. our kids are married to mexican/americans as well. we have no problem with it. now put that in your pipe and smoke it.
@ShinjiNaku Well, Americans don't hate Mexicans. It's the Mexicans or any other freeloaders that come here to milk the system because they feel we own them something. And actually your music came from Europe (Poland, Sweden, Germany, Italy). So it really wasn't your music to start with. The Europeans brought the accordian and polka style music to Mexico and the mexicans adapted it. If you listen to the polkas from Europe it's basically the same as YOUR music. Dumb-arse ignorant people.
@ShinjiNaku it has nothing to do with being mexican... and I for one American love the mexican culture, and given there is alot I don't "get" about it, it's still your culture... Tex-Mex music has been around for along time and I don't think it's going anywhere... not to mention.. Flaco is Mexican.. WTF?
@ShinjiNaku It's not that Americans hate mexicans. Estas joven I know because only one so young would throw out accusations like that.
Being Canadian, I can't really tell you how many Americans "hate" Mexicans. (Not a large fraction I would guess.) But I'm pretty sure Leonardo "Flaco" Jiménez, Baldemar Huerta (aka Freddy Fender), Augie Meyers and Doug Sahm could not be counted among their number. And I think many Americans love music fused from many cultures - like the unique musical genre born in San Antonio from Mexican, German, and American roots -- as much as we do here in Canada. Sorry if you don't.
@TomFan42 There are always going to be haters, but it's better to love and understand and help others understand. Latin music is very romantic and girls love it, at least mine does :)
No Butch Hancock wrote it, although Joe Ely was the first to recorded it. Butch's long time friends -- and members of The Flatlanders with him -- Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore have both recorded Butch's songs. I love Jimmie's recording of My Mind's got a Mind of its Own, which I believe was also written Butch Hancock.
one of my favorites from the TT. I was lucky enough to see them several times at very small venues while working in San Antonio. RIP Doug Samm and Freddy.
This song reminded me of my late grandmother, God rest her. Hardly a word of English from my grandfather to me as a child, but my grandmother, she never spoke Spanish to me.
I thought of this song for a couple of working buddies. Billy is from just outside Arlington, Texas and married to a mexican beauty. Billy said his wife was going to hook Todd from Oklahoma with one of her mexican friends. LOL Todd wants her to speak spanish to him. Well, she might know a couple of english words. So I thought of this song. Ha!
