I think that I feel very sorry for an American. The reason is because there "is not freedom of speech as for the reason at all in U.S.A. even if I do not notice that an American is influenced by Illuminaty, and some people notice it for many years".
@silverberetta17 I don't think so. In fact, Enemy of the states was precursor of the modern action movies: government conspiracy stuff... Like all these Jason Bourne movies, or these tv shows like 24, the shield. Its totally the same thing. Action movies were really different (and better in my opinion) in the 80s, with actors like Bruce Willis, Stallone, Schwarzy and director like Mctiernan, Cameron, Carpenter... Time has changed.
@Glassman454 Movies did not change by accident. Movies are always a reflection of what is happening in the real world politically and / or socially. This was true in the 60's -70 - 80 - 90's and it is true today.
The NSA is far to sophisticated in technology and powerful. Yeah its bad ass that the United States is the richest and most powerful nation on earth. But I think if that technology falls in the wrong hands, some serious damage can be done.I sense that The Director was trying to send a message and it did... But I would suppose all agencies from around the world do that not just the states. You cant trust anyone thats just pathetic and sad... I totally agree with HDefense
Ok, this movie was made in a different era, american innocence. Now: did you learn the lesson? Will you act like a liberal histeric when gov tries to protec Nacional Security? Wake Up buddy, Do the Right thing, get it?
movie was made in the 1990's, makes refernce to a bill remarkably simular to the patriot act. talks about how terrorest acts like buildings falling down will change peoples priorities, that the usa is at war with terrorests, and if civil liberties need to be ignored to protect the... state.. fine. Even makes refernce to one person coming to power on... 9/11.
alot of the film forshadows what actually happened in the usa.
My friend Steve Bugg is in the intro running from the police after car jacking someone in Dallas and getting in a car chase. He is at 1minute 19 seconds into the intro.
Gene Hackman makes any movie he's in! Even if the story and supporting characters sucks he still manages to hold it togather. He is truly a dying breed of actors.
This movie is way ahead of its time. Too bad the things in this movie became real. Nobody tried to stop it. One day that will change. Pre 9/11 conspiracy stuff. I was amazed just amazed when I saw the year on this movie. 1998. Yes you heard me 1998. That's amazing prediction. It feels like it came out yesterday.
Ahead of it's time? Not really, it was 1997, lots of films and books had been released which talked about conspiracy, government agencies commiting murder, big brother etc.
Jerry Bruckheimer. One of the best producers there is. Enemy of the State, Deja Vu, Pirates of the Carribean, Remember the Titans, Bad Boys, Con Air, The Rock, and Black Hawk Down. Those are so good films.
That's because it's trying to show how the police are bad. What they should have shown is innocent people getting arrested or tasered it would have made the intro look more realistic but you have to remember it was 1998 so 9/11 didn't happen yet!! This movie is way ahead of its time.
Even though this movie was made in '98 this is still wat the Govt. does to the citizens they track us and look at us without warrants and if ur wanted they WILL find u, u cant hide anymore.
One of the best action movies ever?

One of Jerry Bruckheimer's weakest films was Pearl Harbor. That movie wasn't that great.

The score to this theme was phenomenal i thought for the first time watching it.
Is it me, or does Jerry always ends up with great scores to a movie. lol Example, The Rock.
Good structure and idea for an opening cred. ;)

Pretty sure the movie was made before 9/11 and the PATRIOT Act.
Regardless it is an excellent piece of cinema and deserved more publicity. Complacency is too wide-spread in regards to government these days.
