I think are actually referring to the window that turned around and became another app. If so then the effect is actually "Group and Tab Windows". I never installed compiz fusion on 7.04 but if you move up to Gutsy or Hardy then you will have the effect preinstalled.

It's called the Dodge Effect. Go to System menu>Advanced Desktop Effects>Enable/go to the Animations plugin>Click on the Focus Animation tab>double click in the white box under Focus Effect to select Dodge.

There seems to be some sort of magnetic pull towards using Vista-like GUI's...If you looked at my computer last week and I had my 2 Kiba-Docks close with my Gnome-Panel out, you would have thought it was Vista (Dark Vista icon pack, Modified Aero-Vista title bar, Vista-Ultimate Wallpaper, Vista/Ubuntu Orb, etc.)!

Linux is only the kernel that controls mem managment, processes, etc. The GUI can be from

anyone and usually runs on Xorg. Also GNU makes all the commands like 'mv' rm, etc. People always call it Linux, but Linux is JUST the kernel. The OS is a combo of Linux, GNU utils, maybe fluxbox or kde, etc. I use the command line and text most of time to program C and assembly language and use a simple GUI, such as fluxbox for 'windoze'.

Its a really nice operatign system really. It runs on crappy systems from 1998 really well. It runs good on just 128MB of memory and an old ATI Rage 128. I am running it on a E6550 C2D with 2GB of RAM and an 8600GT and it runs great. The sad thing is that ATI has really bad drivers for linux. Don't knock it till you try it. The LiveCD lets you try everything out without having to partition your hard drive.

4RT1LL3RY: A very good point but it's not just ATI, most hardware manufacturers' support for linux is appalling. Maybe it's because they don't like the idea of open-source software, maybe it's just because windows is still more popular.

The best way to buck this trend [IMHO] would be to release a distro disc that will automatically [or with minimal user input in laymans terms] create a multi-boot system. This would enable windoze users to easily switch without having to ditch.

I am a dual booter, but I disagree, hardware is not an issue for linux. As soon as I booted to my Linux partition it said 'closed source (restricted) drivers available!' I just downloaded the nvidia package, and It worked the exact same way on a toshiba satellite with an ati card.
