FYI the drummer sang with the Atlanta Boy Choir and performed by invitation in a special choir led by Maureen Dao at Spivey Hall. He also played the lead character in Oliver. There is your seriously good vocalist. Oh, one more thing, he plays keyboard too. Look for their new album coming out in April 2011.

The Black Lips aren't some modern hipster ruse. They've mainlined directly into rock n roll's purest, most simple form and they do it fucking well. Their closest rivals who got to the same sort of size in their time (and in my opinion) are probably The Stooges and that was 40 years ago. They're Norman Mailer's 1940s hipster children passed through the needle of punk rock. I'm pleased that these guys are around and I'm all for embracing. There really isn't anything quite like them right now.

I love this band! I know this may sound elitist but I quite like how they've managed to create a large underground following without going off and doing arena tours like The Strokes and The White Stripes. Love both bands btw!

to be honest, and i think it's cool too (i like it better when a band that's relatively unknown stays humble that way), but if it were up to them i'm certain they'd like to be selling out bigger venues like the strokes and white stripes...if they could. the kind of music they make just isn't as people as the other bands (which isn't a bad thing, just saying). they're not choosing to stay more "underground" unlike the strokes, etc., it's just that they aren't as popular.
