  • She is the best - she tells the story as she dances! there is ... something else in her dance - she acts, she engages, .... she is alive and having fun and we as the audience are included. I am stumbling for words as I try to describe that quality that I don't see in other belly dancers. This lady is not simply just moving her body, she is acting a play, she is COMMUNICATING with us the audience

  • @HumanRemodeling Middle Eastern Music is based on a kind of poetry, The dancer is the narrator. She is the poetry in motion simply interpreting the music as it is described or written. Its symbiosis is something vital and integral to the people and their environment. The sound of the wind in the reeds, the sound of camels marching, the wilting heat, the blowing sand, etc. Simple and very pure.

  • love it.. sensual, no fancy stuff, just plain, simple and wonderful! =)

  • Another wonderful clip, thanks so much for sharing.

  • Got problem with my previous account. My current is MissJieL

  • Hope one day I could dance like her.

I am a new dancer and posted my video on YouTube recently.

Would be grateful if I could get some opinions from you. Thanks!

  • Just can't be better

  • @MissJieLH Yup there is no better. Simple, stately, regal. No muss, no fuss, no fancy footwork, just unadulterated traditional dancing.

  • that must be in her later years before she retired.....she's probably the only one that retired while still in demand....decided to observe her faith I think.

  • @cocoa75 had nothing to do with faith or religion. She simply realised she was getting on & it was better to stop at the top then go down hill.

  • @Doomshark3 actually it was said that she decided to wear the hijab upon her retirement & even came on several tv shows discussing her dicision at the time...I remember seeing her on tv when I was a kid wearing head scarf o tv....trust me just because a woman is wearing the scarf doesnt necessary transelate to observing religion or faith....most of it is culture or convenience...

  • why can't i find THIS version of Hassan Ya Khouli anywhere! I have 4 versions of it, but not this one... it is the best...

thanks for this clip... I love Soheir too

  • @inpeace777 It was recorded for this movie. U could track it that way I don't have this version but I have many many versions of this song. I can not remember the composer of this right this second but i will look. I seem to remember a tape tho some where in my archives that sounds like this I will look I like the smarmy trumpet in this.

  • @baadrobot

you said it perfectly. that's why *for me* she's the best! it's not about the moves with her, butthe feeling she gives you as you watch...

  • @inpeace777

thanks baadrobot, what's the name of the movie? I just found two other clips (one of Sohier and one of another dancer- who has live musicians in the backround) using the same version... so maybe -just maybe its out there somewhere... :O)

  • @inpeace777 I can't remember the composer at this moment find that and u will find that recording most of the old recordings have been re-released check maqam.com

  • love her figure. she makes you smile when you watch her. she just flows so well, too. she's so relaxed and always seems to be really enjoying herself.

  • @shalabanjika middle eastern dance is derived from the music and its poetry, to say the phrase poetry in motion is an understatement when referring to this art form. Lady Soheir understands the music on a molecular level as though she were made from it. It is what all dancers should strive for not fame or fortune but to be able to do this simple task

  • شرموطة كبييييرة

  • @sosooo21 i guess it takes one to know one.

  • THE BEST OF EGYPT BEFORE THE WHORES BECAME DANCERS .

  • sexy

  • why does she cover her belly.. :(

  • @Haevngang In Egypt it is illegal to have a bare torso so they use belly covers.

  • @baadrobot hm, ironic

  • @Haevngang Quite ironic non the less it is a modesty issue. But for us dancers it is a way to tell where a video was made interestinly enough. Many american dancers wear them also but usually to hide bad scars or stretch marks.

  • Thank you for the post!

  • She has the most beautiful costumes I love her.

  • BEUATIFUL!!! SHE IS!!!

  • An excellent dancer ...

  • amazing

  • One of the bestttttttt...... beautifullll

  • Hi, when did she dance this? i mean which year was this? She seems older than in some other videos, but she is a goddess and i know she is always charming no matter how old. It is just curiousity. Would love to take a workshop from her before it's too late.

  • As far as I know she has been retired for a while . But raqia hassan is still teaching , one of the great teachers

  • I love this video!

What is the name of this song (I've heard it before but no one can give me the name).

  • Hassan ya Khouli

Can be found on Saher el Accordeon by Hasan el Saoud. This version is from the movie and ihave heard it on cd Just can't member which one

  • أية حكايتك مع سهير زكي....بتحبها ولا أية.....!!

  • muyyy bueno!!!!!!!!!!!

  • she is amazing!! thanks for sharing!!

  • she used to do many times a move (maybe a lot,but this is exciting)

when the shimmy combined with...hip snap(?) to down...

    nice

  • Her shimmy drops are famous and not terribly hard just an understanding of her particular "twist" on this step combined with multiple variations

  • WOW!!! The best belluydancer I haver ever seen!!

  • Souhair is such a delight! More Souhair please!

  • Thank you! Please post more Souhair. :D
