  • Fear is a bitch

  • I heard people with social anxiety usually have this intelligence.

  • It's a shame some of the most valuable, most intelligent, hard working, and skilled employees get passed over in favor of the bubbly, overly positive, bullshit artists who lack any skills other than social. I think social skills are important but that passion and hard work are more important. Who said life was fair though.

  • @mjpitche I think it does sometimes happen that an employee pulls the wool over management's eyes. However, management who are emotionally and socially intelligent themselves eventually see through it. I would say true emotional/social intelligence is not separate from integrity. It's the difference between character and personality. @sibzism, I believe that situation and audience can make things harder or easier but not impossible. Honesty empathy begets the same.

  • Genius.

  • @katheryncruz24

    totally agreed

  • Umm...none of this is new NOR is it empirically robust in research! Women have been BEING 'emotionally intelligent' for centuries! But emotional intelligence without the right situational correlates and the right responding audience is nothing! (and you cant pick your audience...especially in organisations!) Plus, I read the study about "correlations"...and we all know that correlation does not imply causation...there are other things that can account for that!

This is just a new fad!!

  • Daniel Goleman is a straight up genius, no doubts about it.

  • Emotional & social intelligence have to be anchored on virtue and good ethics in order to have lasting effects on persons.

  • All the emotional and social intelligence concepts are excellent. But are they easy to apply? I think the hardest thing to do is to put all this concepts in our day-to-day life.

  • This is really helpful! As a leader, you should be able to assess your team's performance, how it can be better, its strengths and shortcomings, and find ways on how to make it better.

Thank you for sharing this video!

  • Great video! I think leadership definitely begins by improving oneself, both by addressing weaknesses & streamlining strengths. How can we inspire followership if we aren’t inspired enough to build ourselves from within humbly & sensibly? We have to start at the beginning, that is, true self-esteem (Not vain-glorious self-promotion). Now, how do we get there? Well, the only way is through self-knowledge & personal growth. Visit QuLearn’s channel for an exploration of these & other topics. Thanks

  • I believe that all children should be taught leadership from the age of 8.

  • @berner just being brutally honest... then who would the leaders lead?

  • 08:25 the difference between social & emotional intelligence

  • "herb halihuh" who??????????

  • "real" pleasure..

  • Makes me think about all the criminals, violent people and terrorists . Whatever happened to their emotional intelligence ? Is it really about emotional intelligence ?

  • The speaker isn't speaking clearly enough for me. :(

  • Many thanks to the psychologist. Valuable information!

  • thanks for this video. at least i learned something from other people... growing.. never learned like this in my life.. school... now that i am working.. i want to have this kind of skills to performed best in my working life.. and ordinary life as well.. thanks...

  • I cant deny my hatred for higher intelligence

  • @TooMuchGass true you can't .. and noone should repress that - that would be nice!

  • i can comment pessimistically on videos too!!!! srsly so childish ppl. i get enough angry ppl in real life i dont need the internets help. be constructive or gtfo... or tits

  • reading history will help you how to become a great leader ^_^

  • Let me tell you something about leaders. Remember when you were in high school and there was the most popular guy in school? Was he kind and loving like Gandhi? No! Of course not! He was a bully because that is what people respond to. The alpha is the one that beats up the betas. Stop lying to yourselves.

  • @robotpanda77

That is utter nonsense. In my high school of 2100 students, those who "bully" are looked down upon as insecure (though we also acknowledge that those who bully often have the most messed up lives anyway... and we try to empathize now and then). The most popular girl in school is so because she can be nothing but nice; if you call her a communist trashcan of a whore- she will laugh along with you (that is NOT made up). Lasting "alphas" are around to lift up "betas".

  • @inventor1993 Respect for an Alpha is built into our DNA. Those who advocate peace have all been killed. Gandhi. Christ. M.L. King. J.F.K. Lincoln. Don't tell me that people are all about loving kind leaders. The Alpha is defined by aggressive social behavior, not necessarily violence. How many loving family man characters do you see on TV? That doesn't sell. Accept it.

  • @robotpanda77 Yeeaah(pause for 5secs)So I guess t.v`s best selling character-Jerry Seinfelds as a non family man is just so Alpha. The historical figures you listed (btw you should have included Braveheart) were killed because their Alphaness was making the insecure Alphas of the day shake in their boots. Their aggressive social behaviour, their guts, their fearlessness CHALLENGED the phonies. They didnt "walk gently"- they were shit disturbers, helping lift people like you out of your coma.

  • @19zxcvbnm19 Even if they were good people they were killed. Society saw their goodness and REJECTED it. One drop of warm kindness in the cold lake of humanity doesn't change the temperature of the waters at all. Seinfeld is not relevant because we are talking about leaders. He was not a leader in any sense. Though he was callous, selfish and arrogant thus illustrating my previous point that wholesome characters are not popular.

  • @robotpanda77 Buddy you chose to include proof that is no good for you (btw if you DO sell on tv you ARE a leader- Seinfeld (no.1 for 15+years) just doesnt fit the type of leader YOU want to sell here) And it wasnt society that REJECTED those you listed, it was handful of insecure Alphas of the day, the arrogant people that you unfortunately respect -like mobsters, gangsters, corrupt politicians,. They are punks that add zero to my life. P.S. I`d rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

  • @19zxcvbnm19 I'm talking about sociological leaders, the kind discussed in the video. Having a popular comedy shitcom doesn't qualify Seinfeld to be a politician or a general. No Alpha has magic powers. They take and maintain power because others give it to them. If Alphas were not respected they could not exist. Take any ancient King or leader named "the Great" or so on. How do you think they got that title? Hugs and kisses? That is a WAR title. Guaranteed.

  • @robotpanda77 Good for you! keep changing what you "really" mean. You start by attacking kindness, then you say tv proves it, then I explained to you how those you listed had the aggressive Alpha qualities YOU said defined the alpha- "aggressive social behaviours - not necessarily violence"... That means then your category of "King and Great" were never violent? Grow up kid,you are a hypocrite, The bottom line You: 1) fear death 2)care what society thinks, 3) are not in my .league 4)a beta male

  • @19zxcvbnm19 How much of a fucking idiot are you? I said tv disproved the desire for approval of kind people. I am not saying these Kings ARE great I am talking about titles they were given such as Richard the Great and how they obtained these titles through murder and not through being nice guys. Can you not grasp such simple concepts? How can you hope to be an Alpha if you lie to yourself about the world and can't understand basic English? Those who cherish goodness ARE the betas.

  • @robotpanda77 Im not done- now you say "they take and maintain Power because others give it- which is it you troll? Do they take it or do others give it. IF you are worth the sperm your dad wasted on you, you will admit your belief: that your heros "take" THEREFORE ML King, etc are the ones "given" Power. As far as titles go Your group had to GIVE THEMSELVES these titles & force historians to record them this way to present a "noble" legacy. Look, I carved you up enough, just die already...

  • wow this man is really wise and sophisticated !

  • @0500666111 why? is it the beard?

  • This was a good read if you have it;s book. Anyone who wants to be successful in the workplace needs to include being able to analize others, their motives,

the assets and liabilities and I do not mean judicial. What one is good at another is not and play on their assets. That is a good boss, good leadership.

  • People will follow you when you can get them to believe that you're in a position to serve their cause, ironically leaders are actually public servants, always one step away from being a scapegoat. Why don't we teach people to asume more responsibility and become critical thinkers.

  • @August1977 - bureaucracies stay the same. Leaders placate them. That's why there are not huge differences in governments and often only 2 choices of leadership within democracies. Change occurs but quite slowly. When you look back decades, you can see the change. But year by year not so much.

  • @zrk9a

i purposefully said 'peoples' that is not a spelling mistake

  • @zrk9a

i dont know you but the way you asked the question is impressing. My response for your question is that dont think that anybody is a stranger. When you said, 'I really need help' that says that you are great to accept that you are having great value for others, and actually you are more intelligent and capable just like any other human in this world.

Just have a welcoming pleasant smile whenever you see a new person (i dont call peoples strangers :) Hope it helps..

  • @krishnasaijd Thanks! I feel better already!

  • I get your point about emotion intelligence, social interaction and social intelligence but here is my question:

How can I stop being perceived as creepy?

Seriously, I really need help. I have no friends, and strangers stay away from me.

  • @zrk9a - read "how to win friends and influence people" and "the definitive book of body language"... helped me get laid!

confidence is key, and you're obviously depressed (not judging, just speaking from years and years of experience!), so you might want to do something about that first.

    counseling helps!

and you know what? you have at least one friend out there.

be it your mom, your dog, or the fucken grocer. someone out there cares.

and if anything, just write me.

  • @GodHatesQuags Thanks! I feel better already!

  • Thank you Harvard et al for sharing, a fundamental elementary school 'thing'. I am forever indebted. No additions to the trust fund, but still, I will never forget you honey bun

  • Who is more likely to succeed? (A) A good leader in a bad team, (B) A bad leader in a good team, (C) Neither, (D) Either, Go to tenlawsofleadership.webs.com

  • 'Emotional intelligence really has to do with self-mastery; how you handle yourself' Dr Goleman is making it clear that leadership is hardwork and the task is great but can be done. Lets not fall into the trap of looking at whats going on in terms of CEOs gone bad and think we're doomed, we all have a part to play... 'so many people in the world of work are excellent,..but when it comes to leadership your success depends on everyone elses being effective' ...empathy and skill of interaction.

  • People have a nack for liking the smell of there own xxxx.

  • Great concepts and series but I have to agree, I do not see a glimmer of any of these practices being utilized in workplaces.

  • GREAT THANKS

  • A wonderful video thanks !!

  • @StromsTube

Look, just because Germany is awesome, doesn't mean you need to flaunt it. :)

  • ...remember that all the leadership development in colleges and in the world isn't enough to make up for human nature and character

  • We talk about good leadership in universities but real life tells a different story..if its not the political leader infringing on human rights in some third world country or corrupt greedy politicians (ummm america?) in developing ones, CEO's paying themselves exorbitant amounts of money, or supervisors on some kind of power trip..yea it is safe to say that all of the idealistic qualities propagated by leadership development courses are ambitious theories at best...

  • this helps you in your life..about the other type of leadership..we gotta stop that. If you dont agree ...What's your solution to handle life?

  • @jamel11234 running a hospital requires leadership, so does leading a research team in any field, designing the next piece of technology that will aid human kind (animals/plants whatever) needs leadership too. I think what you are pointing out is a political phenomenon called "realism" where-by individuals use their power over others, mostly against their will. Leadership is inherently about getting people to act willingly to achieve a mutual goal. Tyranny is something else altogether.

  • @jamel11234 "the idealistic qualities propagated by leadership development courses are ambitious theories at best..."

Idealism is the force holding it all together. Were it not for idealism, outright, unabashed cynicism would lead to chaos. Do the demands and challenges of the world provide for a less than ideal reality? Of course, but ideals are what keep most people from feeling the urge to kill their neighbor over a dispute (and fear of repercussions works when ideals break down).

  • It is definately all theory, a little of it if any at all goes on in real life, at least thats what I've noticed. Every workplace I've been too, the managers and supervisors were all obsessed about keeping their own jobs demanding that everybody underneath them work like slaves, the venom and poison in the work environment got too much for them, so they needed a way to get rid of it. The employers started hiring "TEMP workers", they abuse them and get rid of them, they treat tem like garbage.

  • @jamel11234 Sounds like you are assuming what's reported in the media is the status quo. I'd be naive to not believe what you say in the political and corporate world isn't going on. But it always isn't the case (ie, name your favorite politician, Chik-Fil-A's CEO, etc). But, I agree, but on a different point: the problem with such courses are that they give lofty platitudes and concepts, but no real practical training. We know what to believe (preaching to the choir?), not what to do.

  • it's an interesting lecture, i got a lot information

  • Why did Gerry and Kate have POLICE ONLY CEOP book's about how Police question parent's of abducted children in their apartment prior to being made El Guidos!!!

See the video that prove's it!:

"Casa McCann" CEOP again in Madeleine's Case

Brian Gerrish (Common Purpose) Child Stealing by the State

Let's see if you mark this FACT that prove's the McCann's premeditation of the abduction of Madeleline themselves as Spam!!!

Copy & Paste if you support Logic!!!

  • I'm a fan of his books, am reading them right now :)

TitanYa315, I agree, kids need to be taught these skills early in life.

  • if you interesting for more books like this i recomended emotional inteligence by travis bradbery

  • while i agree with what dis guy is sayin, i still find it kinda funny dat all these organization geeks get so scientifical about shit. omg learnin emotional intelligence is da same as learning how not to be a total azzhole. but then again, i guess a lotta bosses are in need of learnin dat lol!

  • @Basehad lol yeah u are the best recruitment for our company! We have an eye for people like you of such great use of words, communicational aura and grammatic accuracy.Natural born gangsta you are!

  • To change the Culture this need to be saturated within ALL SCHOOLS, This Needs to be taught to all students

in America, but unfortunately those who are fortunate to attend Harvard will only benefit and those of us watching right now!!

  • World needs to be better with culture like this...

  • Great video about leadership, I'll be posting this on our site! Thanks

  • Im writing while watching - its a lovely future we have ahead of us. Now they have to be human and learn social life. Fun.

  • same here :)

  • @NiScontex already you are showing leadership. reading your coment made me feel good thus you have won my friendship. ill send a friend request.

  • @NiScontex "social life".. you thought of this while you were writing? :)

  • I think his book on Social Intelligence was very informative...am looking forward to more books like the ones he wrote..

  • Very interesting. Old cliche' "2 heads are better than 1" comes to mind. Social Intelligence, in a nutshell might be "27 heads are better than 1"! Do you have the ability to consume, and utilize the input of a group? If you do you have a good foundation for leadership and comradery for your team...

  • that's a good lecturer, I hope there will have more lecturer like that in the future !

  • Nice try. Keep it up check out esteembpo + com for social media marketing. fghfg

  • I'm a Goleman's admirer, but this interview reflects the sad condition of the 70% of the psychologysts arround the world (I know, i'm from Chile and this happens here too): Unemployeed psychos are trying to adapt pure psychological concepts to who pays better: the organizations,

  • se nota que no sabes de quien hablas que lastima que tu seas uno de esos 70

  • If this forum is being developed in english please respect the other participants and don't text in spanish, that's rude. The second thing is, your comment doesn't have any base or funament, not even an opinion, you're just saying I don't know what I talk about. So, what should I know to say what I say, in your opinion?.

And the last thing, I'm not part of the 70% I'm describing in my comment... I'm pretty sure about that ;)

  • I respect Hitler because of his talent.

We r discussing about leadership, not God or Evile, u r really dumbass.

  • green is the new red, the color of the new totalitarianism. it seeks to limit your basic freedoms and may even eliminate YOU, via HITLER WANNABEES, LIKE ALGORE and wild eyed mini me's like tom friedman and this clown and his forensic- micro analytic neurosis to control behavior like an obsessed paranoid,or as over zealous liberal intellectuals that are too often tikkun inspired jews and whip wielding femi-nazis like hillary clinton, who are miserable when they see people being free and happy.

  • this shuyster is an ECO-NAZI.....why are the liberal jews obsessed with controlling human behavior like little hitlers and stalins??? but dont talk to them about controlling their drive for mney or SEX.

  • Are you really connecting Jews to a facist leader who was responsible for the death of 4 million Jews? I daresay that's a bit of a stretch.

  • Actually, I'm not, and I have enough common sense to know that putting so many commas in a row makes someone look like an ignorant dumbass. Kind of like yourself.

  • duduvissotto, you removed your message, so i couldn't respond.

The thing with this Goleman guy, is that he tries to get too much publicity for ideas that are not his.

He's not the type to have much EI to have the authority to discuss about EI. This is like a non-fiction book that went wrong.

Ideas should be credited to those who actually thought of it.

  • Great video for the basics to EI and SI.

  • "social intelligence" is just another fad term to compile existing ideas together.

    Nothing new at all.

  • Comment removed

  • True leadership cannot be thought. You can't teach instinct.

  • Did Pollyboy need a cracker!?

  • We also know what it feels like to be patronized.

  • check out my talk show!!!!!

  • 7:28

"How can a company use social intelligence in order to increase organizational performance?" BS!!!

    fancy words for:

"If you are of any good at all you´ll tell me how to make way more money"

It´s not even funny to see what people´s only focus is

    This is just sad.....

  • Could this be uploaded with higher volume, kindly?

  • Excuse me..I just want to ask if you guys can give me some movies that has the concept of emotional intelligence..

    Thnx guyz..

  • i'm not sure if there are movies ..but there's a very good video on emotional intelligence by this very author Daniel Goleman .. just search for authors atgoogletalks and daniel goleman on youtube .. and of course .. you have his bestseller book emotional intelligence to read more about .

  • this is very knowledgeable and informative:)

  • great insights..will definitely be watching this again.

  • Great interview, very useful

  • Great analysis and good insight. But Mr. Goldman who was the interviewee stated the

documentation on "Emotional & Social Intelligence" has been collected for 10 years. I guess not much was used by corporations with the findings.

  • Those mountains of wisdom pretty much remain ensconced in a few dozen books and business cases that are never read by any business executive ever

  • I guess its just something that is very hard to apply to real life.

  • I went in a deep coma when the woman started the introduction :).

  • i'm pretty shocked by her "New Yawk" accent

  • Why is it shocking? I mean some people do live there :)

  • i've always lived "there." and not too many well-educated people maintain that accent.

  • Well I've leard something new today.:) I understand what you mean. Well, maybe she's proud of her roots :).
