I can relate. Our basement flooded quite a few times, I lost WW2 pictures my grandfather gave me, a firearm, furniture, & quite a few other irreplaceable items. BTW the firearm was a POS that never shot right. It sucks man, I know.
I agree on being prepared and the need to make things right with your maker. That should be your #1 priority.
If it floods where I live, up on a mountain, there are a lot of people in a world of hurt. However we do have tornados, that is why you dig a deep basement and make it concrete.
Great job on having your food and water in a safe place, sorry for your personal loses.
Steve, sorry to see that you lost a lot in the flood.
The same thing happened to me and my dad's house about 1 month ago.
we had 2 feet of water in our home! it was nuts... our front and back yard were ponds! and then trucks would drive thru it at 20 mph and make huge waves that broke our gates and stuff... it was a pain...
I hope your insurance covers it... we didn't even file a claim...haha
I'm a Deist and a Freemason. I've read the bible, the Quran, the bhagava geta and non of them impressed me. Some good philosophy but way to much dogma and That gets people killed or at least persecuted.
I beliave in a higher power but I don't pretend to know it's will. There are many reasons to be a good person and being one only at the threat of punishment from a higher power lessons the act of being good.
I love watching your vids but this is really one I hate to see and was unprepared to see. My heart goes out to you and your family. I'll keep you in my prayers. Good luck man. Joel
Before we sell we will go after the seller for falsifying official documents (lying), then see if the city will help (one way or another), then actually get one or both of them to pay to fix the problem. if the house goes back to the seller & we get out of the deal, then we dont have to worry about disclosing anything.
However if we have to fix the prob, you can bet your bottom dollar I will NOT lie on our disclosure statement if/when we sell - thats not how I do business.
I'll bet that realtor's ears are on fire. Life as he knows it is about to change. Steve, the poise you showed was unbelievalbe. When I saw your wife carrying that bowl of water with her hand shaking it made me fell so sad. I learned something from you today Steve.
Thanks Robert - yea wife & kid were really disturbed, but we pulled thru. Monday is when we see the ins adjuster and our real estate agent (seller had his own agent) - that should be interesting too. The sellers agent and whether or not he knew about these problems... hmmm.
..if you haven't already, start an inventory list of EVERYTHING and start looking up replacement costs and note your source. It will help in dealing with ins. co. What an ordeal, sorry for your loss, glad you're ok.
Very sorry to hear about your flood. We suffered through a basement flood 5 years ago. The flood was casued by a series of rain storms...we lost everything in our basement...it was a horid mess...I will never forget.....
Our prayers are with you during this difficult time.
dewd, you dont sell. you suit them and realtor pays your money back and you run away. they commited fraud so dont you take any shit! you get a good lawyer and realtor will be found guilty and pay your legal bills. stand firm, i went thru this same stuff. im so mad for you im having a hard time not cursing in my text.
Wow, very good reporting on your flood. I'm happy for you that it wasn't worse. I've been in several floods and wild fires. It's scary but while your in the battle of trying to save your stuff and animals, it's all about getting it done, no time to reflect. For me, the emotional part of it hit me later, after the crisis was over. Best of luck to you and your family.
You're family is good. Your response time is low between disaster and recovery. And your heart and mind are in the right place and ready to deal with situations that you have either been through or thought through.
All of the preparation you have made to date has payed off, especially knowing that you came away from this with no resentment and a "why me" attitude. Everything we face is either trial or tribulation, but what lies on the other side is a beautiful thing.
hey Steve, I am glad uou and yor family aare safe. my house did not flood but a couple mos. ago we had so much rain that the waters came up so fast i felt helpless, another 20 min orain like that and bam we would have flooded.
sorry to hear you went thru a flood too - know the helpless feeling - you cant do really anything but watch & then prioritize & try to save what you can.
the computer is not lost let ...take it apart and let it dry very very well 2 weeks/month i would say. trust me i revived a pc that was a half a year out in rain and snow on a truck tossed in like trash and it is still running look. look it up in search engine ... :) again make sure you let it dry and it is clean
good info to know if this was my fault or if I found a computer out in the elements like you, but I think the realtor, the seller and the city have something to answer for.
Still thanks for the good advice, I would have never guess that you could recover a computer after all that.
zas long as it was just water iut should be fine . sand is another sorry. have friends that put there keyboards into dishwaschers. no i'm not kidding use search engine to confirm please. anyways the harddrives might be shot that one would just have to be tested also something i did just incase is to start up pc outside. as i dont trust everything i read online. that way if something went wrong i was not to hurt the house ;)

I am so sorry that that happened to you. Moving to higher ground sounds like a good plan. But what are you going to say to potential new owners?
You have been a great example of staying calm and a great attitude.

Get the disclosure papers - make copies and give them to the insurance company. Insurance companies don't like to take a hit if they don't have to.

The wife & I were just talking about that today - it could have been much worse due to lack of preparation.
Thank you for the encouragement.
