  • I love this whole album. The greatest one in recent years.

  • what genre is this?

  • @Alexvreidy Good thought.

  • @Alexvreidy I'm no expert on Trent at ALL, but he is traditionally "industrial techno" I'm gonna guess a combination of that, and "minimal". Someone tell me wrong.

  • Amazing movie.

  • @DerrickRoseFTW Amazing? More like perfect.

  • @ImINFAM0US you mean 'are' not our, right? :3

  • @ImINFAM0US you mean 'are' ? :3

  • These songs have a "Jewish" sound to them, don't they? You hear it?

  • @anythingnew What are you saying?!

  • @TheMerrow3 This movie's soundtrack = Judaism and the great Talmud

  • one of my favourite with "intriguing possibilities"

  • Natalie Portman was the celebrity on campus! =D

  • No one noticed the spelling error in the title? Seriously?!

  • By the way, Natalie Portman was the movie star who went to Harvard.

  • David Fincher just went Quentin Tarantino with "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

  • @CuriousGeorgeMonkey9 What's that mean?

  • @BrianIsChill Watch the trailer for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". If I didn't know any better, I'd think it's a Quentin Tarantino movie.

  • Divya: And Mark was the biggest thing on a campus that included 19 Nobel laureates, 15 Pulitzer Prize winners, two future Olympians, and a movie star.

Sy: Oh, who was the movie star?

    Divya: Does it matter?

    Sy: No.

  • Hans Zimmer just recycles his old shit, and then teaches all his proteges to imitate him and recycle each other's shit some more. He's made some good music, but his biggest impact on film scores is getting everybody to make everything sound the same.

  • @betajoovey I'm kind of a traditionalist when it comes to movie soundtracks. That being said, I'm a big fan of Hans's scores for "The Dark Knight" and "Inception".

  • lol @ OP fail troll

  • I love this track. It sounds like an oldschool game.

  • I love how people enjoy the generic works of hans zimmer but are resistant to something different.

Zimmer just slowed down an old song for his whole soundtrack.

  • this song is very soothing to me, very nice sounds

  • Why is people hating on social network soundtrack? It's like the revenge of the carpenter music that never got the attention it deserved when it came out. It's that raw shit. Not the regular type of orchestra strings theme songs, that get all the prizes.

  • @TheDevilbetener you should be executed

  • Really glad this won an Oscar, the other nominees were all good but I never expected this to win, not being your typical orchestral soundtrack. Well done Trent and Atticus :)

  • this was great fun. i love how they implemented the sounds of the game boy that i got for Christmas in 1994 into the music, haha made me appreciate the track even more

  • I have three favorites on the Inception OST. I have three favorites on The Social Network OST. Therefore, I call it even in their own ways IMO.

  • still trying to figure out how Zimmer lost to this.. this.

  • these guys ripped the original style of tunes of Minecraft, the other half of the social phenomenon.

  • How many awards did social network win? How many did Inception win? Hmmmm...

  • I think there is only one piece of "music" out of the entire Social Network soundtrack that I even like, and it is a remix of Grieg! Ugh, worst soundtrack ever!

  • Alright, guys, I think it's time we admit who the real winner of the Academy award should have been. That's right, everyone, say it with me...How to Train Your Dragon!

...what do you mean I was the only one that thought it would win?

  • @Werejabberwock Nope, you're not. John Powell's score was astonishing, definitely deserved to win.

  • @Werejabberwock I agree. I love Trent but How To Train Your Dragon is the most beautiful score i've heard in a long time! But they're also obviously very different uncomparable scores so they really should've gotten seperate awards for greatness...!

  • if john williams was in the running then no one has a chance.

  • @misterdangermike its true, every few years i guess he has to not do a movie just to give other people a chance at winning this.

  • This sounds like utter crap. The Tron Legacy soundtrack was a lot better as was inception. Sounds like a dumbed down dragon ball z soundtrack.

  • @CookieAdventures Are you kidding me? It's fine to assert that the Social Network Soundtrack was superior to the soundtrack of Inception, but Hans Zimmer is a phenomenal artist of sound; you are being ridiculously disrespectful.

  • @CookieAdventures haha, you really think zimmer cares? hes making multi millions, still in the music buisness making some of the most inspiring soundtacks of all time... And you think hes crying himself to sleep and that hes a "bitch"? Ok, come back to me when you've achieved greater success then him. Otherwise continue to make your little youtube videos. Both hans and Trent our great. Leave it alone.

  • @CookieAdventures your the one cursing and explanation points so yeah... And the only reason your saying "umad" is because you have no better comeback.

  • @CookieAdventures Successful troll is successful.

  • @CookieAdventures u pwned?

  • @CookieAdventures I think you are the reason "umad" is getting out as a fad

  • @ImINFAM0US I agree Hans Zimmer's stuff is amazing and Trent's are equally good in another way. Why people insist on insulting one just because one person won and others lost when they aren't the people who even made the music, is beyond me

  • @CookieAdventures Zimmer is great. Plus - Tron had the best soundtrack this year. Inception was a close second.

  • @CookieAdventures your retarted

  • @CookieAdventures go crawl back to b and ask your mother to bring down more pizza to your basement.

  • @CookieAdventures Idiot.

  • @CookieAdventures Whoa now calm down there. Hans Zimmer is an amazing music composer. It's just that his soundtrack for Inception, although still great, just didn't compare. And I don't think the swearing was necessary.

  • @CookieAdventures kid......your a bitch....that is all

  • I am convinced that my work turns out better when I listen to this soundtrack, because it makes whatever random project I'm doing seem really, really important.

  • The reason why Trent and Ross won for the soundtrack is because it is much more unique and every song is completely different. Hans Zimmer made a great score for Inception but it just wasn't as sophisticated as the Social Network's score. Both were great tho :)

  • oh come on, THIS won the golden globe?! looooooool!!!

  • This sounds like it could have been on Sim City 2000. In a good way.

  • I don't know why I didn't like the social network ! I don't want him to get an oscar !

And I think that Alice in Wonderland should get an Oscar for Best Make-Up :)

  • @fatizoo1000 What's not to like??

  • @crazychainsawkid1 I didn't like the fact that he has won the Best motion picture - Drama for Golden Globes !

I want . I really want that the king's speech win ! I loved that movie

But the social network Fuck You !

  • This song makes me think of the physical creation of Facebook. Not all of the sideline events. It sounds like someone is entering a digital frontier, exploring a new world. Just the way that the music is composed.

  • Any Coheed fans here? Atticus Ross produced their last album and you can totally tell the similarities. He's pretty much a badass.

  • All the other nominees score had no identity. 50 years from now when you listen to all of them you can't tell each of them apart. The Social Network theme stands out from the pack. Just like what Vangelis did for Blade Runner or Brad Fiedel for the Terminator. And lastly, arguing about personal preferences is stupid. If you really like the artist you wouldn't need an award to validate it.

  • @komunista94 Have you listened to ALL 5 full scores from the nominees? You wouldn't make that comment if you had. The score for TSN is very unique and different from typical movie scores, but that doesn't make it miles better than the other nominees, as you imply. If TRON had scored a nomination, you wouldn't dare say it's score has no identity or that you can't tell it apart from the rest.

  • @lotrfan8 Oh common. You know I'm right. Had Tron been nominated and won Im sure the pompous elitists would rant until the cows come home about another electronica based artist trampling the more seasoned and classical scorers. Part of the reason why they stood out was the way they were created in the first place. The real argument here isn't the quality. I dont care if TR lost and someone else won. Electronica based music has few sympathizers. To most, a classical conductor got beaten by a DJ.

  • @komunista94 DJing/Producing isn't a simple task may I let you know, it's only because it appeals to a younger market that it would be shunned. Daft Punk are geniuses and are definitely worthy competitors of Trent Reznor or Hans Zimmer. It's all just different music, not better or worse yet people continue to be complete snobs.

  • @crazychainsawkid1 Yeah well tell that to the people here slamming the soundtrack of The Social Network, not me. And I was not maligning DJs merely pointing out how the 'high art' pseudo-intellectuals do not like it when something totally off-tangent from their Victorian highbrow pompousness invades and totally screws with their realities.

  • @komunista94 That's true, it's what I was complaining about actually. These snobs should be less stubborn and accept new genres of music.

  • @komunista94 I get your point about an electronica movie scorer not being taken as seriously as a classical movie scorer, but I personally I have a soft spot for orchestral soundtracks, so sorry, I can't agree with you. Also, just in the case of the 2011 nominations, I found the score for 127 Hours unique too. Still along the classical lines, but still a bit different. And come on, stop the hating. I'm not a pompous person just because I like orchestral scores.

  • @lotrfan8 and im not a hater just because im defending this soundtrack from idiots who come here just to diss it=)

  • @komunista94 This is a joke, right? This thing is complete and total background music. You just made John Williams throw up in his mouth... I will never forget Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman, and... How to Train Your Dragon. I couldn't pick this out of a crowd of random electronic music if someone incepted me and I was stuck in limbo in my own mind for a 100 years with only this shit playing in the background. It's simpleton garbage in the vein of "old mcdonald had a farm".

  • @AppleHousing sure boss, you're the expert.=)

  • Comment removed

  • @komunista94 Have you even listened to "How to train Your Dragon"? Because, well, you should... just type in forbidden friendship and watch the 2nd vid. It's worth your time.

  • @Jaws8u at last an unretarded reply. i'm actually a big fan of music scores. people tend to pontificate about the glories of orchestral scores over the electronic medium; but that's fine, to each his own taste. have heard all the nominees' scores; all were good actually, it's just that this ost stood out precisely because of its difference (predominantly electronica) to the other traditional styles. that doesn't mean it's bad, just different. of course others wont agree. not my problem.

  • @komunista94 Sorry, but Vangelis' score wasn't that good it had three really good tracks "Main Titles", "Memories Of Green" and "Tears in Rain". The rest are 33 forgettable extremely boring tracks like this one (and this is coming from a big fan of Blade Runner).

  • @sneegro whatever you say=)

  • Doing a Score is really different from doing a song, they cannot be evaluated in the same way. A score should melt with the movie to accomplish the feelings the director wants to express. You cannot evaluate a score just by hearing it with no movie, because you would not have a reference. I personally prefer Trent's approach, not because it is subtle but because it lets the movie shine instead of creating a dramatic cliché.

  • Listen to track 5 and tell me it doesn't give you chills when it hits the climax. And most importantly it goes with the movie SO DAMN WELL

  • all the songs sound like the same song ... the first one was really cool, and the second one, but the third one and from then all the songs sound tlike the same

  • i loved the inception soundtrack, seriously when i was watching the movie i was just thinking, my god what an unbelievable movie and soundtrack.

but the social network is flat out a more intriguing and interesting movie. just like its soundtrack. it fucking deserved to be recognized way more than inception

  • @rhymeswithgabriel EXACTLY.

  • Keep in mind, best soundtrack means it motivates, supports and enhances the screenplay. Would this movie had been this movie w/o THIS soundtrack? This specific one? It means listening to it on youtube doesn't do it justice. It means the score is a part of the movie as a whole...Not an additive. It means the music is a character in and of itself. It means this score is the best soundtrack of 2010; Tron a close second. Inception is great. Trent and Atticus did it. Good for them.

  • what is this trash? sounds like a drunkard messing around with a mechanic xylophone and a computer.

  • @toadd93 how fucking old are you? It's called GOOD MUSIC, yes they use electronic equipment in music now.

  • hans zimmer is one of the greatest composers of our time, but his music in inception was nothing revolutionary as almost every film today uses classical music. the social network is one of the few films to heavily use an electronic score so well.

  • INCEPTION!

  • Let's not compare the 'Inception' score along side 'The Social Network' score. They are both incredible to listen to. Enough said.

The fact that 'The Social Network' won the Golden Globe means just that. The Hollywood Foreign Press liked it more than the other ones.

So I listen to them both right now and they are equally awesome and fun to listen to.

I say that they are equal and if you agree with me, like this comment :)

  • @AREM16137 Agreed. People really like to polarize things. Both soundtracks are good, and I'll even go so far as to call them equal.

  • I love Hans Zimmer too. Let him do the sound design for Quake, give a compelling live concert peppered with ear-splitting anthems with horrendous bpms balanced with gentle pristine ambient tunes and then maybe I'd consider the argument that he really is better than Trent.

  • inception should have won best score, no way anyone can argue that. Hans zimmer is the god of sound and we should all come to realize it. If your about to argue with me, go listen to the soundtrack time, and you will see that hans zimmer is better then trent.

  • @ImINFAM0US

If he were the god of sound and better than Trent, he would have won the golden globe.

  • @CookieAdventures Hans zimmer has done much better peices. And im not only talking about inception... he has done lion king, black hawk down, gladiator, carrabean series, Spirit, castaway, dark knight, batman begins, mw2, and sherlock holmes. Thats not even a quarter of all his scores. And all of them are fantastic. Hans is the most prestigous composer out there.

  • @CookieAdventures

Because the Golden Globes mean shit now.....they're mostly full of rigged/stupid people (HFP). Come on, teenage girl's high school social life vs a movie that pushes the edge with a new type of story with a brilliant plot and music that makes this look like a 5 year composed it....

  • @Zodiac11111 Just because someone doesn't agree with you, or likes science fiction movies more than dramas, doesn't mean they are rigged and stupid. You have to accept that to live in this world. Plus, if it was rigged so much, why was it nominated in the first place? If it had won more Golden Globes you wouldn't be saying the same thing...

  • @funkynubman

No, I was actually agreeing with him. Plus, the Golden Globes are shit. Always have been and always will be.

    The Oscars are much better.

  • @Zodiac11111 'New type of story?' You mean new for hollywood movies? the anime 'Paprika' was also about dream-diving detectives, or how about 'Waking Life,' with the whole story being the dream unto death. "Brilliant plot?" There were holes big enough for that train to fit thru, like how the fuck did they get into dreams in the first place? They never explained how or why someone could watch what people were dreaming about, Caine and dicaprio skimmed over some, "your brilliant idea" crap

  • @indyzephyr

because Inception require you to THINK

Cobb can't control his subconscious guilt on how his inception on her led her to killing herslef. The train( how he and Mal killed themselves in Limbo) is a representation of his uncontrollable guilt.

Incpetion's not meant for movies full of sex, alcohol and drugs.....probably your taste :/

  • @Zodiac11111 "Requires you to think?" "Inception" requires a strict suspension of disbelief, as it leads the audience by the nose and forces them to accept its logic. "Was it a dream? Was it real?" Who cares? I will reiterate my statement that they never explained how this "Dream Exploring" technology ever came about, what the use is besides theft of secrets, any pertinent information was ignored in favor of more guns, one-liners and wire-work. a dumb action movie pretending to have brains

  • @indyzephyr

It's real because the you hear the top wobbling near the end, older kids were used to portray his kids at the end and the fact that his father in law, the professor, never appears in dreams (confirmed by Caine). Oh, and whenever he doesnt' wear a ring (like in the ENDING), he isn't in a ring.

They explain how dream exploring came about, with scientists in the military using chemicals to link soldiers dreams together.

    Sci fi fool.........

  • @indyzephyr

The whole point of it is corporate espionage (i.e going into a dream and stealing secrets from the victim's subconscious). Then, they sell these secrets to other competitors for money.

    Once again, SCIENCE FICTION.

Now go back to this shit.......

  • @Zodiac11111 just set piece after overblown set piece is all Inception amounted to, and it's disgusting to think the man who made "Following," "Memento" and "The Prestige," has come to this. Now "The Dark Knight Rises," maybe the most inane title they could have used, will be his next opus, but with no Heath Ledger to give an inspired turn as The Joker, it's gonna have to up the ante on balls-to-the-wall action, just sensory overload, we already have a james cameron thank you, no room for two

  • Comment removed

  • @CookieAdventures Your actually comparing Hans zimmer to Trent..your very mistaken if you think winning that shitty award proves anything other than how deaf or high off crack the judges were..Hans has a whole catalog of scores that will blow Trent out of the water on any given day I promise you

  • @OfficialTechnician Totally. The Lion King, Muppet Treasure Island, Madagascar 2, Despicable Me. Let's not forget The Rock, The Fan, True Romance, and Cool Runnings, yeah we can all remember those scores viscerally. What does Reznor have? Pretty Hate Machine, Downward Spiral, With Teeth, who can even recall what was on those albums? Of course, this being Reznor's first movie soundtrack, we can forgive him for lack of experience. The fact his only OST is nominated for an Oscar is a fluke.

  • @OfficialTechnician You are a complete snob, thankfully the judges weren't. They chose the better soundtrack, good decision. I hope the Academy Awards do the same.

  • @crazychainsawkid1 snob? lol your delusional...we will see when it comes to the oscars thats all im saying

  • @OfficialTechnician fair enough, but it still comes down to opinion. These people aren't the final deciders of what's better. Because Trent Reznor was a rockstar for years and Hans Zimmer is a classical composer doesn't make them unworthy competition.

  • @crazychainsawkid1 The social network score was more edgey and modern and also very origanal iI'll give it that..this is probably why it won becuase trent choose to go with an unconventional style whereass hans choose the norm with the orchestral style with a few enhancements..however like you said its down to preference or opinion so we will see at the Oscars

  • @OfficialTechnician Alright dude, at least you know why it won at the globes.

  • @CookieAdventures oh shit. o_o

  • @CookieAdventures False. The Golden Globes can be bought and bribed out. Winning a Golden Globe shows no talent, only power.

  • @CookieAdventures why are you arguing? I mean those were both amazing soundtracks...just one person had to win...and hans zimmer is the god cuz he comes from frankfurt just like me xD

  • @CookieAdventures

    He should have......

That`s the whole point of this debate. I`ve only watched TSN once, but the soundtrack sorta fits... I personally think Inception has a better score, but I guess HFP had other thoughts....

    Let`s see at the Oscars.

  • @CookieAdventures We will see at the award ceremony that matters..THE OSCARS Hans Zimmer FTW

  • @CookieAdventures

I hope you're kidding!! You don't seriously think that Trent Reznor won over Hans Zimmer *just for being better*??!! Ooooh, the blessing of being naive. Dude, those awards stopped having anything to do with BEST a long time ago; it's all business!! Don't get me wrong, I love Trent's score, but Hans Zimmer IS Hans Zimmer.

  • @thedrmat Who fucking cares who was better? If someone makes an excellent score for a movie, then that's all that matters. Trent made an excellent score, Hans made an excellent score. Don't speak out like an asshole because you're upset someone "lost".

  • @JordMcDrummer

I don't FUCKING care about who won or who lost!! That's why I just FUCKING said it was all FUCKING business. If you have a FUCKING problem with people giving their opinions here, then TOUGH FUCKING BREAK!!

  • @CookieAdventures

ITC: People think that awards are the end-all-be-all of opinions on quality. lulz.

  • @CookieAdventures ...well...that's only true to the degree that the Golden Globes are objective measurements of a soundtrack's merits. Not to take sides on this debate.

  • @CookieAdventures Maybe Trent was better on The Social Network than Hans Zimmer on Inception, but in all time, Zimmer is a lot better than Trent ...

  • @CookieAdventures Not necessarily. Golden Globes and Academy Awards, etc. are a lot about politics. The Social Network was not an overrated movie or as well known as Inception, so perhaps the judges wanted something not as well known.

Don't get me wrong, the Social Network score was really well done, but I feel like the Inception score was more profound and lets put it, amazing.

  • @LeapingSky That didn't stop Up from beating Avatar last year.

  • @LeapingSky "The Social Network" is far more overrated than "Inception".

  • @CookieAdventures EXCUSE ME? ONE award doesn't change anything. bets of people have lost these awards

  • @CookieAdventures it appears that nowadays quality of work and achievement itself isn't what make you win deserved Oscar or similar awards but rather popularity and politics. And i mean not only this one, look at other awards, like Nobel prizes. Recently they are nonstop given to wrong people sometimes even against award principles. WTF

  • @CookieAdventures

sry for you and the other 70.......... totaly lost people

  • @CookieAdventures Yeah, because the Golden Globes are the most prestigious awards.

  • @AletzPop lol uh... this is a joke right?

  • @ImINFAM0US completely agree with you...Inception was the best movie I've everrr seen and the score was just amazinggg

  • @ImINFAM0US you are totally right! like yea this is pretty good too, but not spectacular, like any rock/pop band could come up with it, its pretty plain.. but seriously, inception was spectacular, creates emotions in the listener, goes along with the movie so well, hans zimmer is a genious.. this is bland, the more i listen to it.. it has NOTHING compared to hans zimmer OR inception's music.. geees

  • @ergins1 You could be retarded and enjoy the Inception soundtrack (not saying that it's bad, that's a good thing if anything) but this I found was far more intelligent.

  • @ImINFAM0US Srry if you dont have the attention span for something thats not right up in your face.

  • @Sk1nnyV1nny22 please explain, all i said was hans zimmer is a better composer. chill out

  • @ImINFAM0US listened to your suggestion for the song time. was okay, nothing that original though, sounds like the same orchestral hoo rah you get from a movie. sorry but gotta say tsn has so much more mystique and originality and well it just has the special something you know? inception was just the same old score that wins it at the oscars every year. but hey thats just like my opinion man.

  • @ImINFAM0US lolno

  • @ImINFAM0US Hans is good but his scores are a bit gawdy and in your face. The reason this score won is because it is very subtle, but just the right amount. It really creeps the emotion into you without you knowing as opposed to it being blasted on your face (which Hans Zimmer does). Both scores are good in their own way, I love them equally, for me its like two different genres of music. But the critics love the subtle shit, and they love real life dramas, so there you go.

  • @ImINFAM0US He very well may be, but for Inception, I don't think so. It's really just 2 notes played over and over and over again in a slow, droning rhythm. It sounds epic but lacks the extra "spice" it needs to surpass a complex, subtle, layered soundtrack like this.

  • @funkynubman

This is much more a repeat of repetitive sounds than Inception`s ost. It`s basically the same sounds made on an electric keyboard. Inception has way more `spice`` than this.

  • @Zodiac11111 keyboard sounds ok, but repetitive has nothing to do with spice. Check out minimalism, a great gender of music which Zimmer himself use as base.

  • @ImINFAM0US love the inception score but I can see why it lost to this, this is truly innovative.

  • @ImINFAM0US inception was a great film, but when you hold it up to other smash huge blockbuster movies it fell short for me. still one of my favorite movies of the year, but i think social network tops it, imo.

  • @ImINFAM0US

No way man. I love the Inception soundtrack and while "Time" and "The Dream is Collapsing" are amazing songs, as a whole The Social Network is a better overall soundtrack.

  • @ImINFAM0US

Agreed. This is good, and original, music... but Time supersedes any film score track I've ever heard.

  • @ImINFAM0US I'm a fan of this soundtrack but i have to agree inception's was better. Time is SO powerful. This is simple and original but not near as moving.

  • @ImINFAM0US Dude the Inception soundtrack just sounds like plain old dramatic Orchestra music. Admit it, it's just good, not great. Not all that original and not in theme with the movie. 3 strikes.

  • @ImINFAM0US I'm arguing it with you right now. Zimmer pulled some pretty cool Wagnerian chords out of a hat, but there's nothing original about his work. This is AVANT-GARDE, kid, by a musical genius. Now stop ordering the grown-ups around, we're getting annoyed.

  • @ImINFAM0US Who really cares about an "award" or whose better than who or should've won. They both make GREAT music and we should learn to appreciate it all. Quit complaining

  • Inception's score beats this to dust!

  • @Msincognito007 not according to the hollywood foreign press association BOOYA

  • @Msincognito007

    BOOM! BOOM!

    wow
