KOF is ok but has never even come close to the ground breaking history that street fighter has made. Im sorry but im going to have to stick with the TRUE king of fighters, Street Fighter Four.

naah :) my favourite SF characted is Hokuto from sf Ex Ex2 Ex3 ! Well ken ryu and akuma are not the most dominating! They maby seems dominating for medium level players but highly pro players dont use them so much!
Marvel vs Capcom 2? no? how about ANY marvel game? most of capcoms fighting games have glitches that enable infinites. The KoF series barely have any.
Street Fighter 4: looks like a mix of the EX series and street fighter 2, look like it was make to please thew fanboys who didn't like street fighter 3 and the sales were pretty bad.
Kof XII: After getting some money (thanks to the impact series) SNK is out to give fanboys the definitive KOF finally giving they new sprites with great animations but they are taking a big risk doing a 2D on this time and age.
Revivals happen, from time to time, even in the videogame scene, and the signals are strong that we are going in that direction.
Think about the success of 360, PS3 and WII respective virtual arcades in the last year, the retrogaming becoming more and more diffused, old franchises respawning like Prince of Persia, SFIV, Golden Axe or Starcraft, Sonic going back to 2D mechanics.
If there's a good moment to release a 2D game (with state of-the-art technology, lemme say) is NOW.
2D is less popular in the states because sony of america did not bring anything 2D out for a very long long time. It is BOOMING in japan. They just remade kof98. That thing has outsold halo 2 sales already. This day and age wants 2D fighters as well as 3D. Also btw the Impact games have not done well.
You made a great point. While KOFXII will more then please fans of the series, it's isn't gonna make as much profit as SFIV. Since it's 2D, it's gonna be released on PS2, which means most fans will buy it, others will torrent the game, download it, and play it on their PS2 emulator, and the rest will put togather a MUGEN replica of the game. I commend SNK for their incredible job on redesigning this series, but I doubt there'll get the money for all the hard work they did, which is a damn shame.
Capcom did the smart thing with SFIV. They created a SF with impressive current-gen graphics that'll attract modern gamers to the series. Also it puts the price tag at 59.99 as oppose to 39.99 for 2D fighters. They brought the classic characters back, plus new ones. The game engine is still solid 2D despite the graphics. Alt. outfits, player stats, online play, and bonus anime content. Capcom plans to rake in serious cash with SFIV, and they've done everything right so far to acheive that goal.

Also if you played KOF XI you could edit the character's outfit there's no way SNK doesnt include this option in this game.I agree SF is so up to date in grafics, but personaly I prefer KOF gameplay.

I loved the sprites Capcom drew for the SNK characters on Capcom vs. Snk and CvsSNK2. They looked so rich in color and looked smooth. I'm hoping SNK finally take note of the fact that it seems they are using the same sprites over and over and try to recreate them similar to what they did for Garou: Mark Of The Wolves or BETTER! That would be awesome as fuck.

What's with all the Street Fighter haters? What Capcom is doing is much riskier and creative than what SNK is doing. Sammy had basically already perfected 2D sprites so this is nothing new, well other than the SNK characters actually looking good in 2D for once, other than the CvS series. If anything I'd say Capcom's 2.5D is moving fighting games into a new direction once again. Granted it's all going to depend on how the gameplay is, which we have yet to find out.
Lets all think back to SvC and CFJ/ CFE. Both were dismal failures despite their attempt to meet the needs of the fighting game masses. While games like subpar classics like MvC2 and CvS2 are dominating the American market, the rest of the world is looking towards america to get over itslack of originality and pick up truly innovative games like VF5 and GGXX:AC.
well Street fighter 2 was the most revolutionary fighting game ever. And uh quite frankly I don't care what the rest of the world thinks. We got all those games anyway.

did you know that art of fighting character designer worked in street fighter 2, he was the/one of the character designers of street fighter 2.
that's because all of the king of fighter games are being based off of the completely redrawn sprites and animations of kof 11. kof 12 is just a step above that..which i personally love. it's almost like kof version of sf 3: 3rd strike. i am both a fan of sf and kof, and i will purchase both new releases this year when they're released.

the only reason people think kof 12 looks good is cuz snk has refused to move on from sega genesis graphics for so long, that when they finaly stepped it up a little, it seams so amaizing when in truth, it doesnt hold a candle to sf ALPHA 2 or 3 or even 1. that being said...FUCK SNK!
EX isn't bad. Though the graphics were really ugly and there are some terrible balance issues with some of the characters, it has a really fun system. Beyond what I said, what makes EX any worse than the other 3 SFs you mentioned?
No dashing, or running. Very hard to keep up if theres a distance problem
(with exception to later ports of the EX Series).
Other than that; Nuthin. You've pretty much got them.
Let me also mention that EX has some of the most impessive music in SF history! Rising Dragon,Sakuras theme and Bisons(EX plus A version) were some of the best. Awesome.
The EX series wasn't handled by Capcom; it was handled by Akira. That said, the music from the EX series is still better than most of what SNK has done for the King of Fighter series. I prefer most of the character designs in EX games more than I do for most of the character designs in the King of Fighter games.

You make some valid points. KOF, will probably never reach the success in the US as it is in Japan. As for me, I own every KOF released state-side, and even import!(I had to get a Japanese Saturn just to have great gameply!!) I'm just glad SNK has finally given KOF the sprite treatment it deserves...not the "Sega Genesis" graphic look. I'm one who gives all games a chance, and unlike 'Lookie-lo' gamers who just buy new games, I still play Fatal Fury and SF2T on my SNES. 2D Games Forever!

Yes 2d is the best but you people are missing the point that street fighter 4 isn't trying to be realistic it's not tekken they purposly went for a cartoony look and it is very much still a 2d fighter the camera only changes when you do your now super move (it's above your reagular ex move)
from 96 to 00 jumping (and missing) over 01 02 03 and landing on 11 . but i think this game will be not so good... our eyes will hurt a little till we get used to see this new anime style used in a vs game,,, the original was a lot better
Street Fighter IV is a 2.5D game and not a 3D game. The characters in Street Fighter IV are 3D, but the actual gameplay is about the same as you would except from any 2D versus fighting game.
Can't work out why SNK didn't go 3D... I'm with capcom in thinking that 2D can't really look much better at this point so you might as well make the transition. But I never liked KOF... SNK produced them like EA does sports games and it just got tiresome very quickly.

The King of fighters XII looks like it wl be more intersting. Street fighter is just like the EX series which did the 3-d plays like a 2-d game first and it sucked so what makes a IV in the title make it any different. The King Of fighters owns street fighter on this one.
I Can't really agree with anybody who's behind SFIV. I'm a fan of both franchises and I think KOF will last a lot longer then SF because SNK tries to out do themselves each and every game. I can understand the excitement surrounding SFIV, but I seriously doubt SFIV outshining KOF.

you can tell SFIV is gonna be awful? in that case i can tell ur a complete ass (im not saying hole because ppl like u dont deserve being paid attention to) so far, none of the games are offering anything new, except SFIV which is moving the 2d fighting genre to new heights, and the saving system as well. and watch ur words b4 u splat them out. SNK ripped off chars from capcom in the first place, look at Ryo, kens hair and clothes, and ryus name. next time, think b4 typing...

that's because all of the king of fighter games are being based off of the completely redrawn sprites and animations of kof 11. kof 12 is just a step above that..which i personally love. it's almost like kof version of sf 3: 3rd strike. i am both a fan of sf and kof, and i will purchase both new releases this year when they're released.

the only reason people think kof 12 looks good is cuz snk has refused to move on from sega genesis graphics for so long, that when they finaly stepped it up a little, it seams so amaizing when in truth, it doesnt hold a candle to sf ALPHA 2 or 3 or even 1. that being said...FUCK SNK!

EX isn't bad. Though the graphics were really ugly and there are some terrible balance issues with some of the characters, it has a really fun system. Beyond what I said, what makes EX any worse than the other 3 SFs you mentioned?

No dashing, or running. Very hard to keep up if theres a distance problem
(with exception to later ports of the EX Series).
Other than that; Nuthin. You've pretty much got them.
Let me also mention that EX has some of the most impessive music in SF history! Rising Dragon,Sakuras theme and Bisons(EX plus A version) were some of the best. Awesome.
So there you have it.

The EX series wasn't handled by Capcom; it was handled by Akira. That said, the music from the EX series is still better than most of what SNK has done for the King of Fighter series. I prefer most of the character designs in EX games more than I do for most of the character designs in the King of Fighter games.

All stupid people likes ALL NEW games when they were new and just released... and take a few years to realise what horrible and wrong-made game they were playing... so much time wasted THIS GAME SADLY IS NOT GOING TO SUCCESS outside japan just because of the very bad style of anime they selected to design the characters. You make some valid points. KOF, will probably never reach the success in the US as it is in Japan. As for me, I own every KOF released state-side, and even import!(I had to get a Japanese Saturn just to have great gameply!!) I'm just glad SNK has finally given KOF the sprite treatment it deserves...not the "Sega Genesis" graphic look. I'm one who gives all games a chance, and unlike 'Lookie-lo' gamers who just buy new games, I still play Fatal Fury and SF2T on my SNES. 2D Games Forever!

Yes 2d is the best but you people are missing the point that street fighter 4 isn't trying to be realistic it's not tekken they purposly went for a cartoony look and it is very much still a 2d fighter the camera only changes when you do your now super move (it's above your reagular ex move)

Street Fighter IV is a 2.5D game and not a 3D game. The characters in Street Fighter IV are 3D, but the actual gameplay is about the same as you would except from any 2D versus fighting game.

Can't work out why SNK didn't go 3D... I'm with capcom in thinking that 2D can't really look much better at this point so you might as well make the transition. But I never liked KOF... SNK produced them like EA does sports games and it just got tiresome very quickly.

I seriously have to admit: I'm a HUGE 3rd Strike head (check out the namesake lol). I never thought I'd see the day when I looked more forward to a new KoF game than a new SF game. However, that day seems to have worked its way into inevitability. Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL work so far, SNK!!! This game is old-school, 2D fighting at its finest! Way to follow your gut, you guys!!! Ahhh, don't worry, Capcom: I still got love...SF IV: GET HYPE!!! :)

I Can't really agree with anybody who's behind SFIV. I'm a fan of both franchises and I think KOF will last a lot longer then SF because SNK tries to out do themselves each and every game. I can understand the excitement surrounding SFIV, but I seriously doubt SFIV outshining KOF.
