He's in a defensive posture. And when you're moving your feet, it just checking out any moves that may be aimed towards him. Natural instincts. But nevertheless, a GREAT SHOT! Thanx for uploading!
While traveling in Vietnam I had that chance to get close to a cage filled with a smaller species of cobra. However, these snakes would eventually become dinner themselves for a number of brave tourists.
@Soilwar Actually seeing a white is understandable in that situation. Since King cobra venom is primarily neurotoxic, it attacks and shuts down your nervous system usually resulting in the failure of the diaphragm. This would cause your brain to stop receiving oxygen, and seeing white or a white light is common when someones brain is oxygen-depleted.
That's at the back of the Red Cross. When I was there earlier in the year they had two in that cage. Certainly a thrill to see them. Is it breathing or growling at you? It's surprising that it's not using it's tongue in that shot.
@rydmerlin The one at the red cross in Bangkok has been robbed - and they had 80+ king cobras stolen. Some claim it was an inside job. They probably sold them for food to Chinese or Bangkok restaurants. This was at a snake show in southern Thailand.
How come they can strike so fast that most of the time you wouldn't know what bit you but then they subake and stand still for AGES when they're in cages.
@Devil0U0Tube Kings don't 'spit' posion. They have to bite in order for the venom to be transferred... or, if any of it's venom leaked into a cut, that could also be potentially fatal.
I could sit all day listening to their vocalizing when breathing it's mesmerizing and really could almost say it absorbs you completely just with their beauty and sounds. You should check out a great "hot" owner friend of mine on YouTube named RayHunter.
Jesus.. I have never heard of a King Cobra.. didn't know Cobras could be so gigantic. Reaally awe-inspiring creature... it must have been quite an uneasy feeling just standing there with that beast focussing you through the thin chicken wire. :O How poisionous are they by the way? I'm normally not afraid of giant snakes.. but a venomous giant snake is something else..
Well, their venom isn't as toxic as a monocled cobra, or a krait... but, they can kill an elephant with a bite. They transfer LARGE quantities of venom when they do bite - that's the real problem. Their fangs can really inject a good dose. You can die within 10 minutes. A friend's little bro died less than that.
When my friend told me (about our other friend's brother) I was horrified... it was a really tragic story. Was during a cobra show. The little bro was cocky. New snake handler. Wanted to use newly caught King for the show. Got bit on chest. Less than 10 minutes was all it took... last words were, "everything is going all white... I can't see - it's all white..."
Totally magnificent creature!!! Have to be among my favorites of all snakes. I love the video Austin Stevens has up on youtube of an adult King Cobra must have watched it a hundred times. It's amazing how alert they are and their vision if omni-directional. Thanks for sharing this with us!!! 5*s
Yeah, the kings are really DIFFERENT snakes... they seem to have a very chilled out personality - the big ones... and not too concerned with you being close by. Are they confident they can kill you easily and that's why they're so chill? Not sure. They do have a confidence about them. This one at the fence - wasn't he worried I was going to poke at him or something? Nope. Just stayed right there while the camera was INCHES away from his face. Awesome, awesome snakes...
King cobras aren't spitters - thank some god for that one! They're wicked enough already I think... This was a small one. They get 5-6 meters! Biggest venomous snake on the planet.
wow i dint know that..im African and ive seen cobras from a far in fear that they will spit!..its so awesome how they can lift part of their body high and just how they move...its an amazing creature!!..living in africa you get the chance to see all these wonderfull creatures in ur everyday life!!.. thanx for the upload!! :)
I've not seen a spitter yet... and looking forward to it - IF I have my visor on... that's a reminder to bring my glasses into the woods - which I never do. Maybe I'll buy some swimming goggles today, that sounds smart... lol.
That's funny you say that! In the USA I'd walk through all kinds of woods - unafraid. I've seen copperheads, huge timber rattlesnakes... But, notw that I KNOW what is in the Thai jungle I'm very cautious what I do in the jungle. Very, very! What the biggest threat is - Russell's Viper or Malaysian Pit viper. The big snakes are easy to see - and the kings see you 100 meters off, excellent eyesight. Spitters too. Afraid of spitters. I WILL eventually find one!
haha!! yea bcz america is very mordernized and most of world life is probably dead...i think thailand has the highest population of snakes?..you go in the woods by your self?
@thaipulsedotcom did you know you will die faster by getting attacked by a Reticulated python then a cobra you will die inside of 2 minits where in a cobra is like 3 times as long
/watch?v=l4K-2MLF2Fk&feature=fvw watch this its a 9 foot spitting cobra from my country!!..i have encounterd only one of this in my life!! and the advise i was given was to move back slowly!! and try cover your eyes!! :)
Thanks. I saw one in at a park cross the road behind me about 15 meters. It was farking massive... as in 5-6 meters. All I saw was the tail - a couple meters of tail... disappear into the bushes. I ran over there to see if I could see something, but man - I don't even know the full extent of how stupid that was. It was MASSIVE. Lots of bushes. He could have come right up and out a bush at my head level... and I'd have needed a change of pants. Needless to say I didn't follow him through jungle.
ha! I'm NOT daring at all really... a little bit, but overall I'm VERY safe and don't like to pick things up with my bare hand. Bites hurt. I don't like bites. You won't catch me milking anything or hand-feeding anything. lol...
