Debate were stronger back in the seventies and eighties, when emotions were still strong about real things. Now it seems to be more about presentation and well placed smirks. You can even win with a poor argument if you present it according to your professor's taste. Debating is SUPPOSED to have an element of convincement, if you make no attempt to convince me, we're just arguing.

extraterestrials don't have the need for this primitive form of communication (speech/languages) They have a better form of communicating; through their minds. We humans have that ability as well but we have yet to develop it. Imagine how easier and better it would be to communicate your feelings and thoughts exactly the way you feel and think them.
