Try hammering E on the third fret instead of 2nd fret. I actually hammer both the E on 3rd and A on 2nd. Sounds fuller. Also tune half step down as well as drop D. Give it a try and see how it sounds.

If you're newer to the song you can just do a power chord G also. I have trouble stretching my wring and pinky out far enough for that.

Too tune your guitar to drop D. Simply tune your love E to the seventh fret of the a. Just like standard pluk the E while holding it then the A open.
