  • WOW that child has a lot of hair! BEAUTIFUL job you did, momma! I think I want to do this to my hair...I just can't do it myself. lol I wish you could do my daughter's hair like that! :-)

  • she is beautiful!

  • Thanks mom for promoting natural hair and allowing your daughter to love her hair. Wow. You did great job. You should open your own loc salon. If I had seen this video...you might have had me do braidlocs instead of my two-strand twists. Great work and I love this vid.

  • I love the look..I seen your Latch hook Retighten too.

It seems like since the parts for the edges is so small it seems

like all the tension eventually can break off the edges after time?

  • That is some serious hair, the thickness and length. And they say black girls can't grow hair pshhhh lol! I begged my mom for locs when I was 14 and she told me straight up NO! Funny thing is, I'm 22 now and both my mom and I rocking starter locs lol. She came to her senses, and realizes that she should've allowed me to embrace my natural beauty instead of rocking relaxers and extension braids. I'm not going to force my future kids to loc, but if they ask, I'm damn sure going to do it!

  • Love it!!

  • Really Really loving what I am seeing.. add on this video made me love this style even more. Year natural and I want more options more styles. I'm about 3 inches length. I'm not to good with doing my own hair. Looking for a stylist. I have one question how long was her hair in the beginning stages, products used, and how is her journey now? thanks a bunch :-)

  • I am seriously considering locking my daugther's hair. Can you post update photo or video of your daugther's hair ?

  • @shabbylou I have I think 4 videos up of her progress with her locks. They are scattered because they were at different times but they are there. You just have to search a little.

  • @shabbylou If you go to my channel and click on "Playlist" at the top you will see a Playlist of all my daughter's loc updates. That will make it easier for you to see them.

  • shes soo cute!

  • What a little beauty:o) Love her braidlocs and I hope her journey is going well.xxx

  • Beautiful! I'm going to try this on my son (2yrs). I just need a way to keep him entertained!

  • Your daughter's hair looks lovely. Is it her natural hair? or Did you use braid extensions?

  • @deanclkclk Thank you! Yes that is her natural hair, no extensions were used.

  • Beautiful

  • I use a spray bottle and add tea tree oil, olive oil and a bit of conditioner. Then fill it up with warm water. Shake well and spray liberally. Shake daily and spray.

  • Nice.

  • Great Job mom!!! I agree with you! I used to feel the same way about children getting locs, however, we cannot deny their choices! Good for you and Fefe!!! Stay blessed!

  • mist & sprays: i like Jane's Solution. When I used to do my nephews hair they used to tell me "Auntie this smells good!"

  • @Modacolorist Yes Jane Carter's Solution is wonderful for natural hair!

  • Adorable! The braidlocs looks nice!

  • Her hair is very pretty; you did a great job. I can't believe how small they are! How is her journey going thus far? I think it's great that she wanted to do this. Hearing you talk about it made my day especially since the Tyra episode aried the day after this video. It's great that your young daughter wanted her hair locked and she looks adorable with it. :-)

  • What are some more natural oils you can use to put on locs.

  • Love your daughters hair, absolutely beautiful....i have a quick question for you, is she ever going to take braidloc out? i mean if she becomes tired of the style will you be able to take them down for her? Cos i am thinking of braidlocing my hair but not forever, only for a few months (3-6) so i need to know if this is possible?

  • I do not think your hair is going to loc in the short period you want to keep them in. braidlocs can take anywhere from 6 months to 1 year or even longer to loc so you should be fine to remove them. The hair I am sure will start the process of locing but it shouldn't be too hard to comb them out. I am sure he may want them out later on and when she does I will take them down. It is a lot of work but it can be done with patience, LOL

  • @CoilsKinksCurls

Happy to see the little sister is choosing locs. I have had mine for ten years. i LOVE THEM. A natural conditioner is a mixture of Nettle tea and Rosemary (the herb) boil and strain. Spray it, to moisturize your hair it has a funny odor but she'll get used to it.

  • Beautiful!! :)

  • I have had my braidlocs for about a year and i had to make my own hair products. I get a spray bottle and put into it rose water, avocado oil, coconut oil, almond oil and shea butter. not only does it keep my locs shiny but it also keeps my scalp from being dry. I also use the same mixture for a shampoo by just adding it to castille soap. all of these products you can get at whole foods. the smell is not that great so i also add a few drops of my fav essential oil.

  • This is great advice, Thank you!!

  • that is nice!

  • Your daughter is extremely blessed to have a mother like you. Just looking at the length and thickness of her hair, you can see that you are a woman who knows what you were doing when it came to hair. Her afro must have been huge. Now I admire her meticulous partings and immaculate braids, and can see this girl is going to have some very gorgeous locs. I hope she inspires her peers to go natural and get locs too. Well done mom.

  • Gorgeous and inspiring. Your daughter is so lovely!!! It's so wonderful that she is choosing to be natural at such a young age. I'm 29 and just started last year.......lol.

  • You did a great job! very nice

  • aw shes adorable n her hair is beautiful. cant wait to see it lock! x

  • OMG her locs are going to be ridiculously gorgeous...pretty locs on a pretty girl

  • Great job! Lovely! Braidlocs work just as well as sisterlocs if you do them small and also tight at the ends. I love s-locs, but they're not the only way. We've been doing tiny b-locs w/ our natural hair since forever. Look at the Ancient Egyptians. That's how they did their hair, and we can do that any time we want. I used to occasionally braid my hair like that, and Black ppl acted like it was some kind of miracle. If they didn't have a perm, they could've done it, too, no extensions needed.

  • Yeah I wanted to get sister locs for her but when I found out how much it was, I decided that these work just as well with the same versatility and styling options. So take care of them just like I would sister locks. So many ask if they are sister locks and I tell them they are just micro braids. It's our hair and it is gorgeous!! Thanks so much for commenting!

  • She is so beautiful! WOW you did perfect partings! You should do my daughters for me ;-) She wants locs but she is only 4 I am going to wait until she is older.

  • Oh her hair is gorgeous and her locs are going to be fabulous!!! Please keep us posted on her progress!

  • Her hair is beautiful!! I'm so glad that you are supporting her in this. I wish my mom would have been that cool when I was growing up!

  • Dear Mother: You are very knowledgeable about not using petroleum products. They can cause dandruff. Congratulations on your daughter going natural. She looks so happy, SHE GLOWS!

For moisturizing my Sisterlocks after shampooing, I use a few drops of Trader Joe's Lavender Body Oil (it is all natural, and has a safflower oil base). For daily spritzing, I use Brita-filtered water in a spray bottle shaken with a few drops of lavender oil. It smells nice!

  • Juices & Berries by oyinhandmade smells fruity like for a kid. You might wanna try that as a hair mist for your daugher.

  • Im so Proud of you for going ahead and giving her locks!! You are setting a wonderful example for your children by modeling to them the beauty of natural hair...especially your little girls. And in addition, you are modeling to other little girls & their mothers how wonderful our natural hair can be. Im sure as her hair grows & matures, other little girls in her school & around her will want to have it too. Mothers will start to inquire. This is a movement girl!! You are a leader in it!

  • i looooove it! she is sooooo beautiful and her hair is equally beautilful its all long and healthy! go head mom!

  • You did a great job.

  • Sweet Nature by Eddie has a great spritz.. Actually, she has 2, so you may want to check them out. Hairveda has a good one as well.

  • great job..she's beautiful....i love it.

  • ***BEAUTIFUL**

  • she is adorable!

  • what a gorgeous little girl you have! i remember asking my mum when i was young and she said no as well. 10 years later and i am finally locing. cheers!

  • lol! she's adorable and her hair looks great!

i just started my 10 yr old sister's locs a few months ago with two strand twists.

  • How are they coming along?

  • you decided to go for it!!! great!! your daughter looks so happy. beautiful job on the locks and they look beautiful on her. i 'm sure you have made the right decision, it's more healthier for her hair than anything else she could have asked for...hinse..weave, perm, dye job...lol now that would have been a problem! she looks absolutely adorable!!

  • She's so cute. You have beautiful daughters.

  • Your daughter is beautiful and so is her hair. Thanks for sharing her with us, Taliah Waajid makes great products for locs.

  • Mom you did a great job I love it!!! Mom you are doing an awesome job with your beautiful children be Bless sis!

  • WOW! Awesome!! This is such an inspiration to other little girls! Mothers really need to realize that what we do impacts our children. I'm sure that your decision to go natural aided in your daughters love of natural hair and desire to loc her hair at such an early age! This is so great! In a society where straight and silky is the norm we have little black girls embracing their natural hair! WOW!! Please keep us posted on her progress!

  • i'm coming over, so you can do my hair too...lol

  • So are you going to loc yours soon..... I know you would look sooo pretty with them

  • I don't plan to, but a few people have asked. I think they are gorgeous but I am not sure they are for me. Who knows, I may change my mind when I see my daughters maturing. I like them now as braids but I know I'll love them even more when they mature! You never know!

  • This is so beautiful! She is just such a cutie pie!

  • girl I got tired just looking at all that work you put into that! looks beautiful and she is precious!

  • LOL thanks girl! I can't believe I did that either. I started my husbands locs with coils about 3 years ago but they are much larger.

  • What are you "Familygonenatural!"?! lol You and your daughters are so beautiful! Hairveda has ha moisturizing mist- smells like candy (so it's kid friendly) I haven't forgotten about your request- I've been bunning for that last week- because I've increased my yoga classes- so it's easy to go from work to class or class to work and wanted to do protective styling for a minute. Coming soon!

Good influence Mom.

  • super cute!

  • Do you do hair for a living? You're very talented.

  • i second that comment; she is excellent!

  • I am a stylist but haven't done hair in a salon in like 10 years, LOL and just started venturing into the natural hair care and styling when I went natural. I just love doing it, especially on my babies!

  • Her hair looks really good.

  • omg those are micro mico...wow!! i hope that goes well. that a big step for a little girl. i dont think i could ever go there with my own hair.

  • She has been asking me for about a year and out of all my children I know she is the one who is really serious and confident to do it! She loves locs and always say how beautiful they are. I wouldn't have done this on any of my other children, I know she is serious!

  • Wow, I think it is so powerful that your daughter wants locs at such a young age. That is a testament to what her standard of beauty is. You must be doing a great job in instilling that sense of self in your children. I also did not know you could start locs this way. This is probably a much faster process. I started with coils and it was a pain in the behind. I had locs for 11 years and really loved them. Good for her!!!

  • Girl, she is serious and what took me out that when her grandmother said she didn't like them, she didn't let it change her mind, she said I still think they are beautiful and it is hat her hair is and does naturally. She knows that this is for her and I am proud of her!

  • This is seriously just touching! I am so proud of her and so happy that you were able to raise her with such confidence and love for who she is!

  • She is so pretty!

  • i cant wait to see it once it gets longer and locs up! =)

  • She has some beautiful hair there. I hope she has a great time on her locking journey.

  • you did an AWESOME job!! wow!

  • you gou girl. she is so happy

  • she is on cloud 9 right now and loves her hair. She asked me when the braids were gonna disappear and lock so she is so ready LOL now patience is another thing...

  • I dont know anything about locking hair but anyone who can braid hair that small and have parts that neat, has some serious skills. you go girl. looks great.

  • LOL you are funny, thank you!

  • THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! :D Power to the young sister! :) LOL! I love it!
